This is why I often say that “unfiltered” isn’t “more authentic” because filters are part of what make up a person, in much the way that you don’t get a better photo of a mountain by strip-mining it first.

I am completely speechless on this one

That ending hit me like a ton of bricks.

[Transcription:

A young woman with brown skin and a yellow headscarf is holding two carding brushes, occasionally using them to pull the fiber. She says:

But I mean just imagine being in love with a creature who lives inside your own consciousness? I mean, you share your own perception with them as though you’re one entity. Can you even– can you even fathom seeing yourself through their eyes in the 3rd person, naked and vulnerable and exposed from the inside out and feeling their savage love for you as though it was your own emotion? Loving th- loving them at all would force you to confront the mortifying ordeal of knowing yourself–of loving yourself, okay? It’s–it’s not just about the.. it’s not just about the shapeshifting alien sex okay? It’s about the paradox, it’s about the pining, it’s about the metacognition, and it’s also about the shapeshifting alien sex!

The video cuts to an older woman with brown skin and a tan headscarf looking at a laptop, confused. She is labeled “My mom, who I asked to proofread my Venom fanfiction:”

ever since i heard that version of ‘no children’ by the mountain goats that was recorded at a concert where the singer didn’t sing at all and it was the audience, instead, who sang the entire song together surprisingly well and coherently (i reblogged it here) it’s like.. i too have wanted to go to a mountain goats concert and experience something like that. imagine. imagine singing ‘i am drowning, there is no sign of land, you are coming down with me, hand in unlovable hand’ with hundreds of other people and your voices blending together into one sea. for a crowd to take those horrifically tragic lyrics and make it something communal, something connective. it would be something i’d always remember. oh to sing no children by the mountain goats in collective anon… doesn’t it sound transcendent! does anyone here get what i mean

Since that link isn’t working, I found an archive.org link to the recording!

I was lucky enough to see John Darnielle play in a pub in Manchester. There was nothing on the stage but him and his acoustic guitar, and no children clawed my heart out of my throat

I was lucky enough to see them play in Bristol, with a few friends who were fans and one couple who didn’t know them, but came because “oh neat, they have a whole album about wrestling”

They were visibly STUNNED by the audience reaction to “No Children” - one of them turned to me immediately afterwards and was like “.......people have A LOT of FEELINGS about this band”

[id: the video is divided into 16 squares. in each one, an LGBT person is doing something such as reading, preparing food, playing with their pets, washing dishes. it is overlaid with an audio of the Turkish president's recent speech saying "LGBT? No such thing exists. This country is national, spiritual". when he says "no such thing exists", people disappear from the frame, leaving only the background]
