Nalu Day Sketch Observations

This was the first of two Nalu sketches Hiro made for last year’s Nalu day…

He posted this one the next day last year with a color palette too. I’m kind of glad he also made this one because the first one was cute but there wasn’t much of a cute interaction or anything.

And this year…

I love this one so much. It’s a lot more simple than the Natsu-Lucy tutoring one, but the way they’re interacting makes it so much better. Even including the 2018 and 2019 ones, I think this is my favorite Nalu day sketch he’s done to date.

I don’t know if anyone else feels this way, but this sketch above that Hiro did randomly in January 2020 gives the same energy as this new Nalu sketch to me. I love all the sketches though and it’s so great Hiro has done this for the past few years.

Natsu and Lisanna were not childhood lovers

I get into countless debates about this, so it’s time to finally bury the hatchet. The following 2 pages are the only moments of interaction that would even remotely imply that Natsu and Lisanna had potential to get together. It involves Lisanna making a joke about how she could be Natsu’s wife when they grew up, Natsu calling her a precocious kid, and Lisanna then admitting she was just joking. This doesn’t portray them as lovers. It was Lisanna making a joke.

 Everything else is anime filler.

Natsu and Lisanna were simply close friends in their childhood. It is a relationship where Lisanna might tease Natsu once in a while. That doesn’t make them childhood lovers. Also, Natsu and Lisanna never grew apart after Lisanna returned from Edolas either. They have the exact same relationship now as they did before Lisanna’s disappearance. The fact that they aren’t lovers now should tell you that they weren’t lovers in their childhood.

I was planning to analyze these chapters myself, but I'd like to see your take on this matter first... Chapter 82 and 85 of Fairy Tail: 100 years quest are used as "evidence" by shippers to say that if Juvia wasn't around, Gray and Lucy would've been romantically involved at this point, and their relationship is the best one in the guild. Do the chapters support such claims? And how do these panel suddenly outshine all previous NaLu moments?

There wasn't anything to support Gray and Lucy in chapter 82 or 85, so I really don't know what to say. Even if Juvia wasn't around, GrayLu still wouldn't stand a chance. Natsu still exists, and Lucy likes Natsu more than Gray.

do you think in the beginning natsu wasn’t her type because she denied him when mira told her that he might like her but also she did the same thing to gray, loke, and the blue peagus guys so I think Lucy just don’t want to date anybody from the guild/team natsu and imo Lucy probably don’t have type since she don’t know anything about romance but what is your thoughts?

I think Lucy does have a type. The fateful day chapter showed us a guy who had all the qualities Lucy imagined would be in perfect boyfriend...and it simply wasn't enough for Lucy. That guy wasn't it. So what is Lucy's type?

It's Fairy Tail.

Think about all the qualities of the guild. They can be loud, obnoxious, and rude, but ultimately they treat each other like family and it feels like home. This is exactly what Lucy was looking for when she ran away from home. Lucy loves Fairy Tail and all that it stands for. If you take all the values of the Fairy Tail guild and put it in a man, that's what Lucy is going to find attractive. That’s the reason she’s come to like Natsu. Because he embodies the qualities of Fairy Tail better than anyone else.

Do you think natsu owe lucy an apology when he left for a year?

Only if Lucy asks for one.

I feel that people put way too much blame on Natsu for this. Remember, Natsu is not the only one who left. Everyone else abandoned Lucy too, only they didn't plan to return in a year's time.

You know how people think that natsu believes he’s dating Lucy in His mind? I don’t really think that’s the case. Like in the final chap he was about to tell her something before the 100 year quest and tbh he probably was gonna tell her but he wanted to do something more like complete this huge crazy quest. Like maybe he wants to be more worthy but is way more low key about it than gray. He can pick up on social cues pretty well and I think people don’t credit his intelligence enough.

I don't think Natsu believes he's dating Lucy. He knows they're not dating. I think Natsu probably does love Lucy, and that was what he was going to say in final chapter, but he chickened out. I don't think it has anything to do with Natsu wanting to become worthy, but more like he has no idea how to approach the topic.
