Ace and Aro Positivity!

@mabel-loves-aces / mabel-loves-aces.tumblr.com

This used to be a multi-mod blog but it’s just me now.
I’m aro ace and I’m very angry

Got a lot of new followers recently so here’s a little introductory post!

Hello! I still go by mod Mabel on this blog although I’m the only one who runs it these days. I’m aro ace and nonbinary and I’ve been around ace spaces since before the discour/se hit.

I’m a graduate student with an interest in queer theory so if you ever want to talk about that (or ask me to send you sources) feel free! I’m also very into voidpunk and monster theory.

I’m in a QPR, I’m cupiofluxromantic and romance repulsed.

You are always welcome to ask me questions about anything, although if your question is “can I still be ace if...” the answer is probably yes.

This blog is pro mogai, pro alloaro, pro microlabels, pro neopronouns, sex positive, pro sex workers, etc etc.

ok real talk aro to aro one of the best things you can do for yourself is find other aros irl. i know that sounds literally impossible and it sure as hell can feel like that but being able to talk about our issues and our culture and our experiences face to face with an actual person and not just an icon and handle on a screen will literally change your life. i’m not even being hyperbolic. go out and find other aros. it’s worth it

to those in the tags asking for advice on how to meet people irl: if it is safe to do so, talk about being aro. talk about it a l o t. be open about your experiences and contribute to conversations. point out similarities in experiences with others. unfortunately, the fact of the matter is a lot of people, even those who are active in queer circles, don’t know enough about the aspec experience to even consider it as an option. the amount of people i’ve met who ended up being aspec (not necessarily aro but it has happened with people figuring out their aromanticism !!) but didn’t realize it because they thought being aspec was a singular narrative is unreal.

LOVELESS & LOVEQUEER SOLIDARITY

click for better quality!

i am not loveless myself but i am lovequeer, and i think both communities play a major role inside the aro community of defying amatonormativity and resignify what love (or lack of it) means to us.

because of that i really wanted to create a piece that portrayed the solidarity we have. i used arrows, since they are the main symbol of aromanticism, and the background is a gradient of the loveless and lovequeer flags, uniting in the middle with the green.

*reminder that loveless and lovequeer are not polar opposites! one can totally identify as both if they want to.

Special note to loveless aros because I know it's going to be a month where everyone talks about love and romantic attraction (or lack of) among other stuff

But you being loveless doesn't make you less queer, less of an individual or less anything. You matter as much as anyone else and I just want to take a minute to tell you all that.

Happy pride to you, loveless aros!

I support aromantics who tend to be swept under the rug by the rest of their community because they’re seen as fulfilling stereotypes or “making aromantics look bad”

I’m here for aromantics who don’t want any sort of QPR

I’m here for aromantics who don’t replace their lack of romantic attraction with “love for friends” or “love for family”

I’m here for aplatonic aros

I’m here for extremely romance-repulsed aros who have their boundaries trounced upon and constantly ignored

I’m here for aromantics who enjoy sex, have lots of sex, and/or have one night stands

I’m here for aromantics who have low empathy or no empathy at all

I’m here for aromantics who feel heartless, loveless, or inhuman- and the ones that embrace that label, even when others make them feel bad for reclaiming it

I’m here for the tough aromantics, the bitter aromantics, the aromantics who are tired of society’s obsession with romance and who are tired of appealing to alloromantics

You are not “making the community look bad.” You are not “fulfilling stereotypes.” You are not a “bad aro” for being yourself. You are a valuable member of the aro community and your voice deserves to be heard.
