enough about taylor swift already. reblog and tag the smallest, least known artist you listen to
i feel like a lotta people are wildly unhappy and resistant to the concept that the answer to most things is "well, it depends"
Honestly it's fine to be sex obsessed. It's fine to rail your own ass once a day. It's fine to be ace. It's fine to not want sex even mentioned. It's fine to be kinky. It's fine to want gross or dangerous or unethical things to happen to you. It's fine to be vanilla. Do what you want. I'm tired of everyone nitpicking eachother. Go outside. Take a nap. Have a snack.
The way you change your immediate reactions to things is that you catch yourself having an uncharitable/bigoted/overly judgmental thought and you catch it and replace it and then you do that a hundred times a day for your whole life and eventually one day like five years later you realize that you think differently now and you’ll always be working on something but that’s how life goes and that’s fine.
Say you have a bad habit of thinking all other people are stupider than you and want to respect other people’s intelligence more.
So you start paying attention to your immediate first reactions to things. You notice that when other people around you are struggling with a math problem and ask you for help you default to seeing them as annoying and stupid.
Instead of chastising yourself for having that thought, interrogate it. Replace it. Think, why do I assume people with different strengths are dumber than I am? I need help sometimes too. I’m glad they’re comfortable enough with me to ask me for help. I’m glad I’ve got a reputation of being the math guy and can help people with that.
And the first time, perhaps the first few dozen times, it’ll feel disingenuous. The cynicism in your brain will fight it. But in time it’ll become as easy as breathing. First thought, replace thought.
And then one day you don’t need to replace that thought. That might be a month from now or twenty years from now. And it’s annoying to get there. But you do get there.
good ways to find fic on AO3
in whatever fandom you're in, go to the tag for the character or relationship you're interested in. filter it by other tags if you want. (that will be more or less necessary depending on the size of the fandom and how picky you are.)
read tags and summaries until you find one that looks good to you, open it, start reading
is it good? finish reading! leave kudos! leave a comment! bookmark it!
does the author have other work in that fandom? find out!
does it look like your cup of tea? read it! leave kudos! leave a comment! bookmark it!
if they don't have other work, or if they did and you read everything you wanted to, do they have public bookmarks? find out!
my other highly recommended strategy is to get a fandom friend, preferably one who reads faster than you, and ask them what's good. if you don't know anybody in fandom well enough to get in their DMs, then find the tumblr of somebody in your fandom whose taste is similar to yours, and see if they have any fic recs
"how did you spend your April fools?"
Truth: "I got into a slap fight with 500 strangers"
Happy April Fools 2024
So this is what would happen if I could click kudos more than once
Ceaseless booper smack your paw upon this wretched thing
Pin for survivors
people who don’t have boops on, I respect your peace but also picture me standing outside your blog scratching the door like a cat wanting to be let in
big day on tumblr for people who like to press buttons indiscriminately
Reblog to let your followers know that they’re safe from jumpscares/screamers/etc from you on April 1st but they are NOT safe from getting boop’d like an idiot amen
My fan favorite quote for the 10th Anniversary of Captain America: The Winter Soldier:
~Nameless Analyst
This moment gets me every time. We get online and talk about doing the right thing and make it sound easy, but here's this Analyst who probably has never even held a gun, and he's terrified and just knows he's going to die and he does the right thing anyway, and it's such a beautiful moment, because he's the catalyst that spurs the rest of the room to action. It only takes one person to make a difference.
