Yay when your mental health is tanking because all you want to do is get your house ready to sell but there's always more on the list to do

New sports bra! I love this pattern because it's not hard to put together and doesn't take forever. Granted it takes longer to do than my short pants but still less than a day to do.

Alrighty! I've made 5 pairs of short pants since Sunday!

I'm calling them short pants instead of just shorts since apparently industry standards have decided that shorts need to be super short 🙄 which is what led me to do this because I hate short shorts.

I actually made this pattern myself from an old pair of Tripp zip off shorts so I'm super proud how all of these turned out. They look cute as hell and they are super comfy.

See me not posting for a long ass time and now I'm back with the sewing posts because I actually started again.

People aren't talking about the pandemic craft burnout. So many sewers threw their all into mask making and any other project they could use to distract their mind from the chaos and devastation coronavirus has brought that many of us have been burnout. Not enjoying the pastime that made us happy. Still in the habit of picking up supplies thinking we will be in the mood to do that project but then feeling guilty we are not using those new supplies.

Well I think after 9 months I'm finally coming out of my burnout phase. I don't think it'll consistently last because I'm probably going to burn myself out in the excitement of doing it again. But at least it's here for a spell.

Expect some project pictures later today when my new makes pop out of the dryer because I'm pretty proud of them.

Advice: What Not To Do

Here is what I already know not to do as a baby witch:

No love spells

No blood magick

No spells right away

-

What is some other good adivce?

-

If a witch sees this, I am a baby witch who is new to the craft and looking for tips and a mentor witch who I can ask for advice!

If you are a witch, if you could give me some advice, it would mean the world to me. And if not, like this and possibly reblog so that I can find someone who can help teach me!

There are a lot of posts that will tell you what NOT to do as a beginner with regard to spellwork, and I’m going to tell you right now that a good deal of it is unnecessary gatekeeping.

It’s always a good idea to study anything you want to do before you try it, just so you have some idea of what you’re doing. And it’s always good to examine your motivations and intentions before casting a spell, just so they’re clear. But there’s nothing that says you have to wait a particular interval before doing magic on your own.

This idea is kind of a carryover from organized traditions that require a period of mentored study before you are considered knowledgeable enough to work independently. However, if you’re following a solitary path of self-education, this really does not apply. (And the internet needs to stop pretending that the practices and values of one tradition apply to all of witchcraft.)

In fact, I think you should learn and cast spells right away, starting with cleansing and protection. Practice cleansing yourself and your bedroom space for a start, then practice putting magical protections around your person, your valuables, and your home. These are the best way to practice your spellcasting while also creating a safer environment for yourself and learning the techniques you’ll need later on.

I’m not sure why you’d want to do love magic or blood magic right off the bat, but if there’s something you’re curious about, research it. And hey, if you want to try an attraction spell or use a smudge of blood to seal a protective sigil, you go right ahead. Some things you will only learn from experience.

I wouldn’t go making any vows or dedications to anything right from the get-go, but this is less a Baby Witches Shouldn’t and more of a Wait Until You Know Your Path Better. You don’t want to commit to something only to find out six months down the road that it’s really not for you. When in doubt, research! :)

Mama Bree is giving great advice here, but Granny Stag is here with some probably bad advice™ that I feel like people need to hear anyway.

You want to worship a deity? Do it, start praying.

You want to cast a spell that people say you shouldn’t cast? Cast it anyway.

You want to use a form of magic people say you shouldn’t? Go ahead.

Will there be consequences? Will there be fall out? Probably. Will you have to be the one to deal with it? 100%.

But sometimes you just have to try something, regardless of what people say. Sometimes you have to experiment with what is right for you, instead of just reading what other people have to say. In the words of a great educator from my childhood.

Am I a bad role model for saying this? Maybe. But the whole point is to make your own decisions and not just listen to other people.
