After over a year of hard work, Heir Exclusive, the Jumin Han fanzine, comes to a conclusion with $2,735.45 in profits donated to Unchained at Last!

Thank you all for helping to bring this incredible project to fruition! Without your support, whether it be through purchasing a zine bundle or simply promoting the project, none of this would have been possible. It has been an experience like no other and to this day the staff of Heir Exclusive are truly in awe of the enthusiasm generated for this fanzine!

The team would also like to extend our thanks to our incredibly talented contributors (full list here)! They were a delight to work with and we are truly amazed at the quality of the product we collectively produced. Likewise, we would also like to thank @cheritzteam for their permission to create this zine and for, of course, creating such a wonderful character such as Jumin Han!

Warmest regards and fondest farewells,

On May 25th, 2019, the @juminfanzine blog will be archived and thus no future asks will be responded to.

Why Mystic Messenger characters ask you whether you’ve eaten or not

I’m sorry if this question has been answered already, but I’d just like to explain in case it has not.

A lot of people have been commenting on the strangeness of how often the characters ask them about their meals and whatnot. There’s a reason for this:

In Korean culture, it is proper manners to ask whether or not you’ve eaten, especially to a higher up, whether it be a boss or an elder. It is most used amongst adults as a form of respect. It is basically a polite way of saying “How are you”. Usually young people/friends don’t do this as a form of respect unless they are genuinely curious whether or not you ate something. However considering the characters in mysme ask you whether you’ve eaten extremely frequently, it can be seen more as an act of kindness. When older people do it to younger people it’s because they care about their health. Someone in a relationship might ask their S.O, because if they say yes it shows that they’re taking care of themselves. (Partly the reason why the characters sound relieved or happy when you say “yes”)

Back when Korea used to be a hunger-stricken country, just asking about your meal was basically asking how you were. Meals were (and still quite are) very important here.

There are even many ways to ask “have you eaten yet” in different formal forms depending on who you’re talking to. The most common form is “밥 먹었어요/먹었나요?” (bap meokutseoyo/meokutnayo?) or “bap meokutseo?” (this would be what Yoosung and Zen usually asks.) You can also replace “bap” with whatever meal fits in that particular time (breakfast, lunch, dinner). “bap” is the least formal, then “식사" (shiksa) then “진지" (jinji), but they all mean “food” in general. You would also use “드셨어요/드셨나요" (deoshutseoyo/deoshutnayo) instead of meokutseoyo to be more formal. (This is what Jaehee usually asks).

tl;dr I just wanted to let you know that they aren’t weird, they aren’t creepy and they aren’t obsessed with meals, it’s a culture thing, it’s just them being polite to you and showing good manners ^_^

(I once got yelled at by dad for not asking “Grandmother, have you eaten yet?” immediately when she called me, this is how important this is. lol)

Thank you so much for explaining this. I always imagined it had something to do with kindness and friendship, of course (and not a weird obsession lol) but I am honestly happy to have learned its meaning! 😊

If you like my fanart idea, you can draw it your way,I don’t mind!pls don’t trace my arts,,this makes me really uncomfortable…

Like this ……

About tracing

Dear people.

Please never do what this person has done. Well, to be more precise, never share it online. Well no, in fact, the first thing to do is to ASK the artist if you can use it to help you improve. Most of us are okay if you use our art to understand how to draw anatomy, perspective, a comic, etc. (I said MOST of us, meaning that some artists don’t want it and you have to accept their decision, it’s always better to ask). But listen, although we accept it, even tracing, it mostly for study purpose, you shouldn’t share what you have just traced over with different characters and especially without giving credit to the artist.

What is so wrong with tracing you may ask?

Well, the first thing is that is not your style, you trick your followers in believing that you can draw like this. you steal how the artist handled it and make like it was your own, and, mostly, you didn’t learn how to do it properly speaking.

But if I really really liked the idea?

Then draw it with your own imagination! Use the original as a reference (ALWAYS ask first the artist), you don’t have to follow every step they made, why restraining yourself when you can draw freely? Like here, you could have draw Character A coming back home with Character B cooking with his hair tied and tada! The same idea but with a different approach!

But referencing is as bad as tracing!

Often, people misunderstand what referencing truly is. Referencing is a key to improve and to surpass your own limits. By referencing, you do research and learn how things work. And you should not mix it with copying.

It’s completely fine to be inspired by an artist, use it to improve your vision of the world and create beautiful artworks by your new knowledge! Being an artist is a long path with a lot of struggles, but the most important is having fun while being respectful with each other!

I haven’t played V’s after ending or any new content yet (because I’m writing my term papers an that’s enough emotional torture eeh) but!

APPARENTLY (?) SPOILER (?) they go on a life-changing field trip to become Jedi - or at least they look like it in a CG lol. … This will be my contribution to V’s after ending - out of context. May the force be with them!!
