Its based of Greys Anatomy season 19 with it being an ex Addison Montgomery x OC with snippets of Amelia Shepherd BF, ex Teddy Altman and Lexie Grey BF
Walking through the halls of the hospital Saphira Nyx felt the ghosts of her past surrounding her, almost choking her. It's times like these where she missed Meredith and everyone else from her intern year. She felt alone. Yes, she had Amelia, who was her best friend, but Amelia had both Kai and Scout, and she didn't need Saphira hanging around her all the time reminiscing about the past.
Saphira understood why everyone left but she hated that they left her alone. so, when she saw red hair walking through the halls of Grey Sloan, she almost believed that she was seeing ghosts.
Almost, being the keyword, as she was harshly awoken by the new group of interns slamming into her causing her to snap out of her trace and lose sight of the red hair that she thought she'd never see again. shaking her head to release her of the memories of blue eyes, red hair and soft lips, clearing her throat to rid herself of the tears lining her eyes she took one Last longing glance down the hallway and turned around to meet the egger eyes of her five interns for the day.
"I know for probably all of you peds isn't your first choice of specialty, however that doesn't mean you guys get to slack off. Peds is hardcore, full of magic and smiles. These tiny humans have gone through so much at such a young age that they shouldn't have to give up on magic as well." Saphira told her interns, subconsciously reminding herself of her old mentor and friend Arizona Robbins.
As they reached the door to the peds floor Saphira relaxed her shoulders put on a smile that made her blue eyes sparkle and opened the door.
The interns looked at each other shocked as they've never really seen Dr. Nyx smile, apart from when she was with Amelia or Teddy, and even then, the smile never quite reached her eyes, leaving them to look a depressed grey rather than her once happy blue.
As Saphira led them through reception to the first patient door on the right, the interns watched as Saphira steadied herself on the door, took a deep breath and opened the door.
Saphira turned to face the interns with an over exaggerated look of confusion "hey guys have anyone seen a little girl about this tall" Saphira asked gesturing to her hip. as a small giggle was heard from under a lump in the blanket the interns seemed to catch onto what Saphira was doing.
" No, I'm sorry Dr Nyx I haven't seen her". replied Simmone who smiled when Saphira shot her a grateful look.
" Are you sure dr Griffith she's called Lexie, she's 8 years old and she has brown eyes and brown hair?" asked Saphira again who began waving her arms around gesturing for the interns to start 'looking' around the room for the child.
As the interns and Saphira all began to look around the room, the head of a small child peaked out from under the blanket barely containing her excitement and giggle. Saphira, with a knowing smile, walked over to the chair that was positioned right next to Lexie’s bed, she looked behind the back of the chair and as she was standing back up the word BOO was screamed causing Saphira to 'jump' and dramatically collapse into the chair and smile as she took in the adorable child who looked so much like her Lexie, who dies in the arms of Mark Sloan and Saphira Nyx.
as she stood up and looked into the young Lexie’s eyes, she couldn't help but think back to when she last saw her Lexie, cold and lifeless and so unlike how Lexie actually was.
Even though Saphira was in Meredith's intern year she was pushed up a couple of grades in school, so she was actually closer to Lexie’s age than her classmates. So, when she first met Lexie on her first day of her second year it was like the world had finally brought her a friend who could be there for her like she wished someone would when she was a child.
"Ok guys", Saphira said standing up "who would like to present?" as all five of the interns’ hands shot up, Saphira glanced to her right looking at Lexie and nodding her head. Lexie, with all the authority an 8-year-old could muster, pointed to Mika Yasuda who looked shocked but spoke up to present the case.
"Alexandra Smith, 8 years old diagnosed with stage 1 leukaemia 7 years ago by dr Nyx, she'd been in remission for 5 years until 6 months ago, where she came back for her yearly scan where they found mets on the bowel and liver. Dr. Nyx then, after completing further tests, found that the cancer hand had come back but this time it was stage 3 bowel cancer with mets to the liver.
For the last 6 months Lexie’s been having chemo waiting for the mets to shrink before surgery for a bowel and liver resection" Yasuda finished before stepping back to join the rest of the interns who had formed a line at the bottom of Lexie’s bed.
"Ok" Saphira exclaimed clapping her hands, turning to Lexie she said pick 2 numbers between 1 and 5". crossing the bed to the interns she quickly assigned Lucas Adams as 1, Simmone Griffith as 2, Jules Millin as 3, Mika Yasuda as 4, and Blue Kwan as 5. spinning back around to face Lexie she started to do a drum roll on the table.
Lexie smiled and held up 2 fingers on one hand and 4 fingers on the other. "Ok Lexie-pie you have chosen Drs. Mika Yasuda and Simmone Griffith '' Saphira smiled as Lexie giggled at her admittedly terrible impression of a 90's quiz show announcer. "Yasuda and Griffith are going to get you dressed in your best ball gown and get you ready for the king and queens’ ball". turning to Yasuda and Griffith "please look after her and bring her down to OR3 in 2 hours" facing the other three" you guys can round on my patients, post and pre op and remember to believe in magic" walking towards the door Saphira spun back around bowing to Lexie "princess Lexie, I shall see you in two hours, Millin, Kwan and Adams if a massive trauma comes in you can go and help in the pit once my patients have been checked on and all notes have been updated and just page me to let me know''. with that Saphira spun back around and walked out the room.
walking back towards the doors to the peds floor Saphira pulled open the doors allowing the sadness to once again shine in her eyes as she made her way through the halls looking for either her person, Amelia shepherd, or her ex-girlfriend, Chief Teddy Altman, whom she really misses lately, and she hasn't seen since Teddy came back from 'on the run'
Deciding to try the chief's office as it was the closest to where Saphira was now. rounding the corner to where Teddy should be she saw a group of people crowded around the desk outside the door. She brushed off the feeling of being watched as she knocked on the door and meekly said the word 'Ophelia', thinking back to when she was with Teddy, and they would say this word to each other when everything in their respective pasts just got way too much.
Teddy and Saphira got together when Teddy was still getting over Owen and dealing with the fact that she was a widow and Saphira was still heartbroken after Addison left her in Seattle for LA with saying goodbye, leaving Saphira lonely and heart broken, only getting worse when she was shot after protecting Lexie from Gary. Saphira almost died that day. For a split second, she thought that she could go somewhere else that caused her less pain, where her mum still loved her, where she wasn't a disappointment to her parents, somewhere else where she was loved and happy. just not here where she was broken and damaged. So, when Saphira and Teddy started to bond over similar feelings they both created a word (Ophelia) where they could say everything that they needed to say without words.
As Teddy quickly replied, 'come in' Saphira hurried to open and shut the door, missing the guilty way Teddy was looking at her and the back of a very recognizable red headed woman.
As Saphira spun around to talk to Teddy she suddenly clocked on to the guilty face of chief Teddy Altman and the familiar hair, albeit a bit darker, of Addison Montgomery.
With wide eyes Saphira turned on her heel and walked out the door. barely catching Teddy calling out her name, muffled by the noise in her head and distracted by the tears in her eyes Saphira just about made out Amelia's contact number to page her the words 'Ophelia ocr4' as she sped around the corner making a bee line for the on call room 4 as she just about made it in there before the dam broke and she started silently sobbing.
About 5 minutes later Amelia comes barging through the door, locking it and practically throws herself at a hysterical looking Saphira. Wrapping her arms around Saphira's body, Amelia began to slow her breathing knowing that when Saphira got like this, this was the only way to calm her down.
After lying on the bed with her head buried in Amelia's neck, Saphira noticed that her breathing was beginning to slow down so she peeled herself away from Amelia and turned to face her.
Amelia, sensing that Saphira was beginning to feel ok, slowly released the hold she had on her so she could understand what the hell was making Saphira, her person, so upset.
"What the hell happened" questioned Amelia who was watching Saphira's face for any signs that she might not be okay again.
"Addison, she's here, she's in Teddys office on the day I have to operate on a child called Lexie who looks just like her"!
Amelia, of course knowing about both Addison and Lexie, didn't know what to say, only pulling Saphira back into her as she let her carry on talking.
"I’ve managed to avoid Addison until now because I knew she would be coming and when I didn’t, I simply stayed far away from any place I knew she liked or frequently went to. and even though our jobs should overlap they just never really did when she was here. this is the first time that I’ve seen her since that day". Saphira mumbled with her lip trembling.
Amelia knew the exact day that Saphira was referring to.
It was the day that Addison had left Saphira all those years ago, Saphira had been in love with Addison since she first saw her pointing at Meredith and destroying her with one sentence. while Meredith looked devastated, Saphira looked love struck she was oblivious to anything happening around her until Meredith ran off. Saphira, who was painfully loyal to her friends shot Addison a smile waving at her before she turned to Derek practically spitting out that he was a fucking pig and that she knew how to hide a body before taking off after Meredith and taking one last look at the red headed goddess before she left the hospital.
Addison couldn't help but become intrigued by Saphira as she didn’t know who else (apart from her, Mark and Derek's sisters) could and would say that to Derek shepherd's especially an intern.
From that day on Addison and Saphira were basically inseparable. if Saphira wasn't on her service they ate lunch together and if Saphira was, she'd follow Addison around like a lost puppy.
A few months into Addison's stay at the hospital she knew she wasn't going to get Derek back and she honestly didn't think that she wanted him anymore, so she drew up the divorce papers, signed them and gave them to Derek who of course signed them to win Meredith back.
Addison, who immediately found Saphira after signing the papers, building up the courage, kissed Saphira who instantly kissed Addison back, getting lost in the feeling of love being written in the kiss. from there the relationship moved pretty quickly and within six months they had both said, 'I love you'.
Saphira was beyond happy and would often be seen walking round the hospital with a dreamy smile, a faraway look in her eyes and poorly covered hickeys on her neck.
Everything was blissful until Addison left to visit some friends in LA and when she came back, she'd often look at Saphira with a vacant look in her eyes and as much as Saphira tried to comfort her, Addison wasn't the same.
So, when Saphira woke up to a cold bed she assumed that Addison was just elsewhere in the flat, it wasn't until she began to register the missing clothes, makeup, shoes and her perfume that she realised that something was wrong.
That day she found a note next to her pager saying Addison had moved to LA and not to bother coming after her. something in Saphira broke, Addison had spent the better half of a year telling Saphira that she loved her and that she wasn't worthless, she knew Saphira like the back of her hand and she left like that and it wasn't until Teddy, Amelia and Lexie that she began to find her self-worth again.
After Amelia heard a choked sob coming from Saphira, she quickly began stroking up and down the length of Saphira's back, hoping it would calm her.
"It was going to happen eventually Saphira, I know you know that. I think that you were already stuck in your head because of Lexie, and this just made it worse." sighed Amelia as she looked sympathetically down at her person as she was now all curled up into Amelia's side.
As Saphira's breathing began to even out, Amelia pulled out her phone and sent a text to both Addison and Teddy to let them know that Saphira was ok.
"when’s Lexies surgery?" asked Amelia.
"About half an hour." came the muffled reply of Saphira whose face was currently buried between Amelia's boobs.
In reply Amelia chuckled and managed to get out "you know I love you and you mean the world to me."
In response Saphira just nodded. Amelia then shifted and made a move to try and get up causing Saphira to whine and Amelia to continue to laugh.
"I love you too Amelia, you mean the world to me." said Saphira who was now getting up to head to surgery. as Saphira headed out the door Amelia crashed into her, whispered 'good luck' and walked off.
As Saphira started to prep for her surgery she put on her rainbow scrub cap, scrubbed in, and walked into the O.R.
"Ok princess Lexie are you ready?" asked Saphira who playfully bowed.
"Yes!" came the reply from Lexie.
"Ok then, breathe in the magic bubbles." said Saphira as the anaesthesiologist placed the mask over the 8 years old girl's face.
As Lexie fell asleep, Saphira breathed in and out to calm her nerves, opened her eyes and spoke "10 blade please" while holding out her hand.
As the operation continued smoothly, Saphira asked the interns questions about the procedure. As each intern answered correctly, Saphira would each let them have a turn holding the suction as well as observing.
As Saphira finished the surgery she saw both Simmone and Mika to close. scrubbing out, Saphira had a massive smile plastered on her face, thrilled that the surgery was successful yet caught up in the sadness that she couldn't save Lexie during the plane crash.
rounding the corner to reach the N.I.C.U she bumped into a very distressed looking Addison who reached out to steady both herself and Saphira, who looked caught in her mind.
Saphira, once she realised who was touching her, reeled back and away from the touch that she missed and craved so much.
"Saph please." whispered Addison who looked like she was about to cry.
Saphira, who was hurrying away from Addison, stopped suddenly when she heard the nickname fall from Addison's lips.
As Saphira was was halted in her position, Addison began to speak "I never meant to hurt you, you have to believe me, I did love you, I still love you but I just didn't want you to follow me across the country, to uplift your entire life, everything you've ever worked for, for me."
Saphira, upon hearing this spun around to face Addison tears streaming down her cheeks and hurt shining bright in her eyes. "You left me because you didn't want me to follow you?" she questioned "Addison we could have talked and discussed possible options, I could have finished my internship in transferred, hell I could have done my residency too but you didn't give me a chance to choose. you took that away from me when you left, you didn't even stay to say goodbye. you knew my past, you knew that I was broken but the chose to break me anyway" muttered Saphira harshly, gesturing wildly to herself with broken speech, she carried on "it took years of therapy to see that it wasn't my fault that you left, that in fact there wasn't anything I could've done differently so you would've stayed." Saphira took a deep breath as she began to feel better because she finally had the chance to say everything she's wanted to say to Addison for years.
"I loved you so much Addie" whispered Saphira, "and I honestly don't think I ever stopped. there's so much that's happened since I last saw you and I have so much to tell you, I’ve missed you so much and I would love to begin to get to know you again even if we only become friends, I just want you in my life as long as you stick around this time." Saphira smiled weakly as she began to bounce on the balls of her feet and look at the ground progressively getting more nervous the longer it took for Addison to reply.
when Saphira was about to give up she felt a body crash into hers and tears began to soak through her scrubs to her undershirt. Saphira felt Addison's head beginning to nod where she had buried it between Saphira shoulder and neck "I would love to." came the reply from Addison between choked sobs.
