[VD: Comics, zines, and anthologies by Kimball and Laurel cover a dark table. K (pale hands, orange nails) and L (smaller pale hands) leaf through 8 comics/zines and 2 anthologies. End VD]

My partner @earnestattempts (Kimball Anderson) and I (Laurel Lynn Leake) are queer and disabled comics creators, and we want to share our work with you!

We made a short video showing off our weird artsy comics, and talking about stories that honor marginalized lives as inherently meaningful. Also about committing to disability justice and making more of our work free and accessible! To that end, we're offering some limited discounted slots for the pricier tiers too.

🌿 Kimball &/or Laurel Posts Tier: Never miss either of our behind-the-scenes posts, unless you only like one of us! We don't mind :P You also get access to an ever-increasingly captioned archive.

💭 Counterintuitive Releases: We mail you 4-6 printed comics every year, and share digital releases with you first. Plus posts!

📮 Monthly Mailers: Kimball sends you an exclusive experimental zine in the mail every month, plus you get the Counterintuitive Releases.

Thanks for reading/watching! 🧡 Longer vid description under the cut.

Hey everyone, heads up that cartoonist Abigail Zero has been cyberstalking and threatening me, my partner Kimball @earnestattempts, and our families for about a month. They've escalated things to outright blackmail and extortion, and spreading heinous lies about us to compromise our income as disabled people.

In the past you may have seen us trying to help them find housing, and vouching for Abigail as a roommate. Although we believe they have every right to safe housing as a human being, we can't vouch that they are a safe roommate any longer. We will never speak to them again or read their frequent abusive messages for our own safety - this warning was given to us by a friend who checks the messages for outright threats.

If you've receive any accusations about either me or Kimball, I strongly recommend you not engage and block. If you have any concerns about the contents of the messages or for your own safety, please feel free to reach out.

Currently their Tumblr is @/VirtualRobustness, aka Robust Books, Twitter is ZeroAbigail, Norbert_The_Nag on Insta, and I'd recommend blocking preemptively.

I really wish this sort of post wasn't necessary, because as Laurel said she has a right to safe housing. But at some point you have to warn people.

for Trans Day of Visibility I wanna tell you all about my wonderful partner Kimball Anderson and their work! @earnestattempts is a disabled, chronically ill nonbinary artist who makes poetry comics I can’t get enough of. they say they make comics for people who fell off the conveyor belt of life.

these are some comics of theirs I love! you can read them for free on their tumblr or website (in the source link), which I’ll link in the reblogs because tumblr punishes people sharing links, haha.

where you can read all the comics pictured above:

  1. Pencil comic of Kimball putting on a mask - Covid Comic (free on Kimball’s patreon)
  2. Stamped box full of mini comics - Patreon Sampler, which has comics inside it but also IS a one-of-a-kind comic :O
  3. Photo comics from The Light Today
  4. Comics with pencil drawings of a mouse on brown paper - pages from Sketchbook Comics, Book 3: The Line from their website, you can also read on tumblr here

ARTISTS WHO WILL SEND YOU COOL STUFF IN THE MAIL

I just got cool stuff in the mail from @shinesurge‘s Patreon and I just think getting cool stuff in the mail from artists is a win-win situation in these Trying Fucking Times, so here are a handful of friends and acquaintances with pledge-for-mail systems that I’m aware of. ARIA BELL (Kidd Commander) - Twice yearly postcard prints. There’s a tier for just the postcard + bonus sticker, and a deluxe tier that includes tricked-out packaging and other surprise ephemera related to the characters and comic. Really fun and immersive, and different every time. Considering the amount of work that goes into making these things, either tier is a steal imo.

JULES RUIZ - Monthly mini zines, just starting up again after a hiatus, so now is the perfect time to sign up for a zine in January. The zines run the gamut from queer/trans autobio to natural history to explicit work, with incredibly detailed and thoughtful art. A cheaper digital-only tier is also available, but the physical zines are extremely worth it. COYOTEPRINCE - Quarterly prints featuring exquisite art of supernatural entities (we’ve had ghosts, faeries, cryptids, vampires and werewolves so far). The October cards have metallic foil accents, and every postcard comes with a newsletter that covers a semi-obscure facet of (usually) nineteenth-century life. SUPERPOSE - I don’t even know how to begin to describe the stuff Joe and Anka send to their mail-tier patrons, it’s like augmented reality for their webcomic. Characters’ family polaroids, tourism brochures for the comic’s location, DIY papercraft projects, and fanfic written by cast members are just a few of the things I’ve seen them do. JOB SATISFACTION - Quarterly postcard prints related to my webcomic. These also come with a newsletter, sometimes featuring in-depth character or worldbuilding material that doesn’t make it into the comic, microfiction, ciphers, and shop talk on my process for the art. Occasionally I do fun wax seals or bits of in-world ephemera. And the characters in the art are hot, so there’s that. These are just the ones I’m aware of in my little niche social circle. I don’t think enough can be said for anything that diverts your attention from the screen for a more personal connection with the art and stories you enjoy, even for a few minutes.

Oh hey I do one of these too!

KIMBALL ANDERSON - I send out mini-comic type stuff every month. Sometimes it’s more like visual poetry or collage, sometimes it’s weird artsy stuff, sometimes it’s long form projects split up into sections (I’ll always catch people up if they sign up in the middle of one of those). I’ve got a sampler box set (link here) you can get too, or just look at the pictures to get an idea of what I do!

You can get it here!

I continue to be blown away that Kimball makes a completely new secret mini every month for their patreons?? and now collected their favorites in a beautiful box that is ALSO a comic, and a unique hand-stamped one at that. If you like art/poetry comics, collage, abstract act, experimental mini comics, etc, this box will delight your brain! also, I took the photos :D

When I Was Me: Moments of Gender Euphoria now on Kickstarter!

Quindrie Press’ new book When I Was Me: Moments of Gender Euphoria has just launched on Kickstarter! When I Was Me is a collection of autobiographical comics about the joyful experiences of transgender people, edited once again by Eve Greenwood and Alex Assan.

The book has gorgeous cover art by C. A. P. Ward, is fully designed by Spire Eaton, includes 9 original poems by Harry Josephine Giles, and features over 70 trans people in a mix of comic artists, illustrators, and story contributors.

We are offering backers the option to buy additional copies to be donated to Books Beyond Bars UK, a collective that distributes books and literature to queer people in prison, and 50% of all post-campaign sales of the book will be donated to organisations that support young trans people in the UK.

It’s a truly beautiful book and has been a wonderful project to work on. We’ve reached nearly 50% of the goal and it hasn’t even been 24 hours yet, thank you so much for your support!

(Art above by, in order, C. A. P. Ward, Amanda Castillo, Cat Laird, and Rafael G.)

i’m part of this beautiful project! it’s been a real dream to assemble this book. it is chock-full of charming, weird, and funny little anecdotes, told in so many beautiful comics. i even contributed a comic about myself.

please check it out! :]

I’m in this too! It’s such a sweet idea. There can never be enough focus put on gender euphoria! It’s such a beautiful feeling and it can seem so fleeting and ephemeral.

So… finally caved and made a ko-fi, since despite my fears of making one (afraid to be scamming because I’m not currently actively making my art, afraid of diverting funds that would help everyone else in like a ‘everyone else deserves help before me’ kind of ultra-low self-esteem)

it can be found here, https://ko-fi.com/rokko , your donation would be going primarily to rent, at wherever place i wind up. (my friends have been helping me with connecting to prospective roommates)

Rokko Michi is a wonderful friend and artist and could use a helping hand right now! If you’re unfamiliar with her work, she’s been putting out thought-provoking, sweet Pokemon comics/stories online for FREE for years (many of them including transcripts). And did you know she’s ALSO the YTP video-editing-wizard @combuskenisawesome? And that she also thoroughly and hilariously captions her YTPs?

She’d deserve help and housing even if she didn’t create any art or stopped sharing it entirely, but y’know, she also deserves more credit for everything she’s done. So I’m gonna boast about her and encourage people to read/watch her work and spread the word even if you can’t donate! 💖

Great news! Rokko has found a new home in Washington and is escaping a red state at last! She’s got a 2000+ mile trip ahead of her, so any donations are greatly appreciated for hotels, gas, and general moving costs. Huge thanks to everyone who contributed already - you helped give her some breathing room as she lined up permanent housing! 💖

I’m moving soon and need to sell some of these minicomics & books — I’ve reopened my online store for a month if you’re interested. All orders will ship on July 15.

👉 online store link 👈 These are from 2016–2019 and all very cool and antique in that they have my pre-2019 name that I will never have again, Madeleine Witt. All are two-color riso printed. I also found a few last copies of Warmer! I don’t see myself reprinting any of these, except maybe What The Body is For, so if you ever wanted to own some of my pre-2019 work, this is your moment. I cannot promise that buying these minicomics will solve any of your problems but they will solve my problem of having to move them across the country 😎😎😎 and for that I thank you.

Madeleine’s work has a beautiful simplicity, and the feeling you get from even her sadder comics is of being filled up and warmed. You could not go wrong getting some of her comics.
