i am going to create an environment that is so toxic

wtf ❤️

The dumb joke is that when cyanobacteria first invented photosynthesis, the oxygen they released was extremely toxic to all the other bacteria that existed at that point. Photosynthesis was so successful and they released so much oxygen that they nearly wiped out all life on earth.

This is called the Great Oxygenation event, or the Great Oxygen Catastrophe, it is to date one of the largest mass extinction events in earth’s history, and as far as I know it’s the single most extreme event of an organism making the environment toxic for other organisms.

Which is always funny to think about from a human perspective, because pretty much all life *except* bacteria could not have evolved if this hadn’t happened.

The Archaea - the really old bacteria that existed before cyanobacteria - are still around, they just live in weird places now like hot springs and the deep ocean where the nasty oxygen can’t reach them.

This is a beautiful graphic but it doesn’t explain the pros and cons of each fire type.

The Swedish torch is good for an efficient and contained fire, it’s controlled and good for cooking over and produces less light and heat than other fires. It can be difficult to keep going once you burn through the original log

The teepee is your traditional campfire. Good for heat and light not great for cooking, burns through fuel fairly quickly

The star fire is one of the slowest burning and not well protected but provides an even heat good for slow cooking and is excellent if you have limited fuel and need the protection a fire can provide

The lean to is a compact and efficient fire that evolves into a dense and hot bed of coals. The structure creates a good source of air flow which can help damp wood burn. A slightly better cooking fire that isn’t as bright. It also provides protection from wind on one side

The platform fire is incredibly hot and will create a very thick bed of coals but it doesn’t have a lot of air flow and is a little harder to get started.

The log cabin is big and bright and has lots of air flow which again is good for damp logs. You can also use this structure to start a smaller fire in the middle while drying out bigger logs. This fire will crumble into a messier bed of coals that don’t produce particularly even heat for cooking.

The modified leanto is excellent if you need it to perform multiple functions. The side with more fuel will burn bright and hot and the side with less fuel will burn less hot but more evenly and controlled, this gives you different cooking options.

He-man: When I was just a baby, my twin sister was sent through a portal and I never saw her again.

Adora: That's awful, I'm so sorry. You know, when I was just a baby I was sent through a portal. I lost my family too

He-man: Wow, I'm so sorry.

Adora:.....

He-man:.....

Adora: Well I hope you find your sister!

He-man: Thanks, I hope you find your family some day!

l’oréal removing words like “whitening” “fairness” “lightening” from the labels of its whitening products amidst global protests against racism instead of removing the products themselves kind of illustrates perfectly how it’s just a branding and marketing game for these big groups instead of an actual concern…

poke strawberry

look under strawberry

You see a HAND

Here is, again, a reminder that bush babies are not only not domesticated, but that the only way to obtain one as a pet is through the illegal wildlife trade. Thousands of bush babies and slow lorises are ripped from from their homes every year in a lucrative and highly destructive market that lines the pockets of poachers, drug and human traffickers, and even terrorist groups. Shame on @thenatsdorf and everyone else, for promoting this!

@petcareawareness is correct. This bush baby is not a rescue. It was bought in a pet shop in Japan. I found it verified by the original content creator in a comment on their YouTube video.

sometimes i just want to laugh at how absurd everything is. like, jeff bezos has enough money to literally end the war in yemen. he could literally end it. nearly any celebrity in the world has the money to fix the flint water crisis. like there is a handful of rich people who, if they just put their money where their fucking mouths were, could solve so many problems. but they dont!!! they just buy another house, or a car, or a company where they don’t pay their workers fair wages so they can get richer. it’s just!!!!!!! sometimes i want to laugh bc it’s so absurd and this is why we say eat the rich.
