dnd character asks 1-20 for skaori

Avatar

1. What influenced or inspired the creation of this character?

Skaori was originally my Watcher in Pillars of Eternity, where she was a Pale Elf. After Critical Role Campaign 2 started, I wanted to play an Aasimar, so I made her one for my friend’s 2nd Ed game (we homebrewed Aasimar for it). And then someone else asked me to join in a 5th ed campaign so I re used Skaori, because 5e is was more fun than 2e no matter what this weird guy at a party tried to convince me a couple weeks ago.

2. What is your character’s relationship with their family? Family is a word which here refers to biological relatives, close companions, and/or the individual(s) who raised them.

Skaori loves her parents very deeply, but her mother’s…. somewhat blatant disrespect for any authority other than her own definitely rubbed off on Skaori. She and her mother are both very proud, and stubborn, and most of their arguments stem from Skaori being told to do something and not listening. They both care deeply for each other, and have great respect for one another.

Skaori’s father is sort of a pushover, but he is the proudest dad, always bragging about her to anyone who would listen. He taught her how to play the flute, and look after her armour, and he was secretly gutted every time Skaori’s mom refused any gifts from others in the village that would kick off the courting process. (He wants grandkids so bad)

3. Who is the closest person to them?

Not a person, her wolf Frost, who was her steady and constant companion from when Skaori was 16 until a prismatic cone sent poor Frost to another plane.

4. What were the conditions surrounding their formative years?

Skaori grew up in an arctic village near a cave that spat out ice-covered undead. She was constantly out hunting with her mother, in spite of the Elders arguing that Skaori was too young for such activities, so she had no friends in the village. On the few occasions she was present and tried to join in on their games, the other children teased her for not knowing the rules. As she got older, she was often scolded for starting fights, because she got so much bigger than the other kids so quickly, so she has no friends, and tends to storm off when she’s upset.

5. What creature would they like to have as a pet?

She just wants Frost back, fam.

6. Do they have any bad habits?

Picks her cuticles, shuts down when she’s upset. Holds a grudge forever.

7. Is there anyone they’d die for? Kill for?

Her parents, Frost, Ehsan.

8. Who was their first love?

A tiefling ranger named Ehsan, who came to her village in an attempt to help with the undead problem, and later returned because they feared Skaori was in danger.

9. How would this character react to someone confessing their love for them?

She wouldn’t believe it, at first. She doesn’t think she’s very special at all, or if she is, it’s because of the influence of the spirit sharing her body.

10. How old is this character?

We’re coming up on her 26th birthday in campaign. (she was born in the Month Long Night, around the soltice)

11. Are they normally peaceful or aggressive?

Skaori prefers to work with people rather than fight them, but lacks the social graces to talk her way out of problems. Also tends to panic and resort to violence when someone she loves is in danger.

12. How does this character handle stress?

She runs away. She used to then talk it through with Frost (who is an excellent listener, but doesn’t have advice to give because, wolf) but now she just sends herself into a panic spiral until she gets too exhausted and goes to sleep.

13. Does your character consider themselves lucky?

Nope.

14. What is their favorite holiday?

She likes the Autumn Festival, where there’s always a telling of how Teva the Wild won the heart and hand of Vivek the Just, and everyone shares food and stories and there’s arm wrestling and large game animals for feasting. She also likes weddings quite a bit.

15. What is the best gift they could receive?

Currently, anything that would help get her to Frost.

16. If they could instantly kill one person in the world without consequence, who would it be?

Iollan, a warlock they ran into in the feywild.

17. If they were in possession of a trio of wishes, what would their three wishes be?

  • Get Frost Back.
  • Free Dahl from Malar
  • Bring the Princess Ozzy is looking for home safely.

18. What is their favorite spell or method of attack?

Hunter’s mark!

19. What are their guilty pleasures?

She has discovered she likes sweets quite a bit.

20. What is something this character is or could be addicted to?

Hard to say, she hasn’t been out in the world at large for very long.

21. Have you actually played this character yet?

Played her in my friend’s 2e game, and ongoing in a 5e game run by @bardiicinspiration

So I don’t know if you’re taking a break or if you’re done (both are fair!) but I just reread the entirety of clothed in light and I’m dying all over again. I love your writing so much

Hello! Yes I am still plucking away at it occasionally. I am very pleased you like it, I am just a little stuck on it at the moment and I have a lot going on otherwise. I do still think about it a lot and I really want to finish it. I don’t know when that will be though!

I used to walk straight-spined out of every room that wouldn’t have me.

Now I only want the smell of your hair on my pillow, your spoiled milk in the fridge. Another ruined thing I can’t throw away.

Tired and worn from the patterns I've carved; I will do better in the morning. I'm afraid of who I'd be without you; I will do better in the morning.

when Lemony Snicket wrote “I will love you if I never see you again, and I will love you if I see you everyday” that hurt me

Full paragraph hurts even more.

“ (…) I will love you as we find ourselves farther and farther from one another, where once we were so close… I will love you until your face is fogged by distant memory. I will love you no matter where you go and who you see, I will love you if you don’t marry me. I will love you if you marry someone else and I will love you if you never marry at all, and spend your years wishing you had married me after all. That is how I will love you even as the world goes on its wicked way.”
