hi, since there are limited quantities because of the interest survey on twitter, is it okay if we promote the zine on our tumblrs?

Yes, go ahead! We just haven’t had time to make an official tumblr promo post yet. The limited copies mostly apply to the packages/extras. We have some extras of physical single zines and can order more stickers as necessary.

Hi! Thanks for your hard work organising the zine! I wanted to ask, is the list of featured ships you just posted the full list? I remember it being said that every character would be represented at least once, but I didn't see Nazuna on the list...

That was an error on our part, sorry. Nazuna will be represented, his artist and ship will be posted later today once we can confirm the selection with them!

Thank you so much to everyone who applied! We were overwhelmed by the number of applicants that we received and it was difficult for us to make our final choices, but here are our contributors! A full index will be included with the zine so that people can skip to only the ships they would like to see! Preorders will be open February 14 - March 12!

Is it possible to get accepted if there will be a free spot even if I didn't get accepted at first?

Yes, but the chances are low. All writer spots have been claimed. We’re still waiting back on five more artist e-mails, but if someone doesn’t respond back to us by the end of tomorrow we will offer their spot to someone else. We will likely message on twitter or tumblr for a faster response instead of e-mailing you if we do happen to offer a previously rejected person a spot.

Hello! Sorry if this is a dumb question but I'm just a bit curious about how participants were chosen. Was priority given according to ship choices or was it mainly based on the quality of artist/writer samples or both? And will you be posting a list of who's drawing/writing which pair? Thanks!

Hi! I’ll be dropping the “we” for now, since I’m the only one organizing this. First, I selected around 80 people whose art styles and writing styles I thought would work for the zine. This was mostly based off coloring style, ability to draw complex or simple backgrounds, grammar, and overall readability.

I then asked three people who have been assisting me throughout the zine process to look over them and mark off anyone that they would like to confirm.

People from the remaining pool were then confirmed according to ship choice. I wanted to have every student represented at least once, and to have a fairly even mix of first, second, and third years, as most of the choices were lopsided towards the third years.

For now, we won’t be announcing exactly whose drawing/writing what (although participants are free to announce that themselves), but we will be releasing a list of the ships to be included in the zine along with the participant list on November 1st. The zine itself will have a full index in the back in case our readers would like to skip over ships they dislike or would like to view only ships they like!

If the zine manages to make enough profit, would it be possible for the zine to cover shipping costs for participants' physical copies as well? I would love a physical copy but sadly 15USD is a bit too expensive for me :( I understand if not though, I just wanted to try asking!

We’d love to do so, but we’ll have to see how much money we make, as we accepted around 50 participants and that would equal at least 500USD in shipping costs.

We should know by March 1st depending on preorder volume if we will be able to cover shipping costs or at least reduce international shipping to $10 for participants. We will be posting a full spreadsheet of our total costs and profits on March 12, when preorders close, and start shipping out zines on March 14.

Half of the applicant e-mails have been sent out! Please check your spam folders. If you were accepted, please respond by November 1st or we will assume that you are dropping out and offer your spot to a different person.

All e-mails will be sent within the next 24 hours.

how many people will be picking the participants of the zine? i realize that the organizer is friends with some of the applicants that i've been talking to. (i'm not implying that there would be favoritism though.) thanks!

No offense taken! It’s an understandable concern. The editor (me, the person answering everything) will be marking off more than the final number of people to be accepted, and then the final choices will be confirmed by three or four people that have been helping me organize the zine on the side.

Hi! This may be too general of a question but I was just wondering on what standards will you be accepting/rejecting people? Like do you have a high expectation of art skill? :( Also, is it okay if our portfolio contains some sketches? (I will try to have at least one clean and colored piece of course) Thank you!

Oops we didn’t get a notification for this ask. Thanks for your patience! Sketches are okay in your portfolio, but we’d like to see a cleaned and colored piece with at least a simple background (more complex than a solid color). It’s difficult to describe our standard, but we are limiting acceptance to 38 artists.
