Not only is this a great rebuttal to misinformation, it's also a strong reminder that you need to CITE YOUR SOURCES. If you're making a claim, if you're trying to share information, if you want to make sure you aren't perpetuating the cycle of misinformation, you have got to show your work and cite your sources.

You aren't immune to being tricked by misinfo. Neither am I. Especially in this age of generative AI and journalism industry instability, we've all got to do our part not to speak blatant bullshit.

for those who dont know PMID is short for Pub Med ID. Pub Med is the US government funded archive for all published scientific literature in the fields of biology/biomedical sciences/ (and a lot of) chemistry (pubchem has the chemicals but when you look for articles on pubchem the links go to pubmed).

Not all articles are available to read on pubmed, often its just the abstract and author names with a link to the journal (which might have it for free or might be behind a paywall.)

but all published articles get a PMID.

you can search those numbers above the microbiologists head into google or your favorite search engine and you'll get the primary literature:

Coming out is different when you know if you come out to one person you risk the whole town knowing. Coming out is different when religion is entwined in your entire community. Being queer is different when you can't trust that your doctor or therapist will stay confidential. Being queer is different when conversion therapy is subtle and normalized. Transitioning is different when there aren't gender clinics or gender therapists for 50 miles. School is different when other kids are put at risk by being seen with you. Can we stop acting like there aren't queer people living in rural areas and start supporting them

And also like supporting them in a way other than just telling them to move somewhere else.
