the thing is israel basically belongs to the united states. it is funded by our government. they test weapons for us. when the us defends israel it is not defending a sibling nation where there might be room for them to break away or disagree, it is defending its own military interests. i think this is important for understanding why the states are acting this way and to make it clear this is something US citizens are directly involved in, as much as any other cruel, imperialistic war we are told to support, only to be apologized for as wrong decades later. you can apologize for the deaths once you have already benefitted from the deaths. that is how these things go but it is always essential to fight that pattern because we already know how it ends if we were to let it play out. none of this is new, for all the claims of complexity, it is the same old playbook and we must recognize it for what it is and fight it as we would any other demand for crimes against humanity in the name of "peace". learn from the past, learn from each other, learn from those who have been fighting this struggle longer than we have been alive. mass opposition to US imperialism, to settler colonialism, to """justified""" genocide is the only way.

to those in the notes asking what can be done, here are some resources to get you started. most of the scripts list is targeted towards a U.S. audience but should be possible to modify for use elsewhere depending on where you live.

call scripts (most can easily be modified into email scripts as well):

there are also many donation links going around which are compiled in other posts. i am currently getting a lot of mileage out of sharing the games for gaza bundle on itch, as it is very easy to bring up in conversation. if you are in discord servers with gaming channels, it is a very easy way to bring people's conversation and attention back to palestine by sharing it.

keep sharing!! keep talking! don't look away. give these resources to other people and keep listening to and boosting palestinian voices. that's what has been asked of us. your words ARE important right now. there would not be so much effort to silence and shut down the public's cries for justice and freedom if there were no effect.

Drawfee, a comedy art YouTube and Twitch channel with almost 2Million subscribers

also having charity stream for Palestine Children Relief Fund

On February 24, 2024 3pm-6pm United States Eastern TimeZone (ET) on Twitch.

(A lot "nonpolitical" channels n people are able show support n help, in own ways. Don't forget you matter.)

Their banner image from Drawfeeshow Youtube community post:

They also put a statement out on their social media about their goals for the stream and how they'll be moderating it:

Image Transcript: Our PCRF charity stream is this Saturday! While we are looking forward to a fun and entertaining few hours of drawing and fundraising, we also recognize that by choosing this particular cause to get involved in, we are stepping into topics that are significantly more sensitive than the content you are used to on our channel. We've listened to the concerns from the community and want to ensure we're setting the right expectations. Our primary goal with this stream is to provide aid to Palestinians facing a dire humanitarian crisis. We will be encouraging our audience to both donate to the PCRF and to urge their elected representatives to back a ceasefire. We believe that rallying our wonderful community towards tangible actions is the best use of our platform in this instance. We hold a strict policy against antisemitism and hate speech across all our streams, and this event will be no exception. Our moderators will be vigilant in maintaining a respectful and safe environment for everyone. We recognize that some phrases and slogans associated with Palestinian liberation can be controversial within our diverse community. While there are varied interpretations and feelings towards these expressions, we do not view them as inherently antisemitic. We do not believe it is our place to police the language that Palestinians use to advocate for their own freedom and safety, so we will not censor pro-Palestinian speech in chat during the stream. We recognize that this stance will not please everyone in our community, but ultimately it is what best reflects our values. If you have reservations about our decision on this matter, we respectfully suggest that this particular stream might not be for you. Choosing to do this stream meant accepting the risk of causing division within our community and potentially losing followers, but the chance to make a real difference for those in need far outweighs any drawbacks. Thank you to our wonderful community for predominantly being supportive of our decision to do this and for being caring compassionate people. Your encouragement reinforces our decision. Looking forward to Saturday! End Transcript

ID: a tweet by @/itsdeenasaur made on February 18th, 2024, reading "my friend baraa, a children's illustrator from gaza, is working on evacuating her family from gaza. she is now raising funds for her beautiful niece maryam, please donate if you can:" above an embed with a link to the gofundme. And there a photo attached to the tweet featuring a girl, Maryam, with light skin and choppy dark brown bangs stands in a green field with tall plants, wearing a white lace dress and a white hat, which she tips. she is smiling and holding a small, fluffy purple flower and has text at the bottom reading “gofundme.com Help Evacuate Maryam and Her Family from Gaza, organized by Baraa… In the midst of the relentless war that has plagued Gaza for over 100 days,… Baraa Awoor needs your support for Help Evacuate Maryam a… (cut off)”

ID 2: another tweet by the same person on February 18th, 2024, replying to the previous tweet. it reads “Maryam's father was recently captured and tortured by the idf before his release. They are now trying to evacuate for her safety. Like most people in Gaza, their home has been completely destroyed. Attached is one of Maryam's drawings” above attached a photo, the photo taker holds a paper with a child's drawing on it, of Maryam in a heart shaped multicolor air balloon, leaving a place drawn in the top part of the paper. Maryam is in the background, smiling.

I've asked this question before and been surprised by the results, now I have access to more weirdos it's your problem:

It is the middle of a Sunday afternoon. You have nothing on, and aren't expecting visitors, deliveries or post.

Unexpectedly, there is a knock at the door.

Not naming options to skew votes but...

I think there's something fundamentally baffling with the way most of you think.

#we were wrong about fairies being real but given that they are #nothing else about one being on my doorstep is surprising

#because I don't know anything about fairies. anything a fairy does would make sense because what do I know? might as well happen

#vs #how did a walrus travel 80+ miles inland?

#how did it travel 80 miles through an urban area of 3mil people without anyone noticing?

#how did it make it to the 3rd floor?

#how did it knock?

#why was there a walrus visiting a shore that hasn't seen walrus in 5mil years?

#does alaska know it's wildlife if making house calls 1000s of miles away?

#was it a zoo escape? HOW?? they are slow and cannot scale or jump fences. does the zoo know?

#why of all the doorsteps it could've chosen on its way did it choose mine?

#how did it knock

HOW DID IT KNOCK??

I’m just thinking about how many times I’ve heard my dad on a long call with an obvious scammer and I’ll start begging him to get off the phone because I always think he’s a very easy mark and he’ll just keep going and then after a while he’ll say something like “I died 20 years ago” and hang up.

Virgin Millennial Daughter with 20 hrs of screentime a day: Dad! They’re scamming you! Dad! Stop! They will take your savings and your identity! Hang up before they SWAT you!

Chad Boomer dad with a flip phone he has not recharged since 2014: Well gee I wish I could give you my bank account number after you spent all this time on the phone explaining this car deal with me but I don’t have access to my finances because I am in Rikers for felony murder.

Expanding a thought from a conversation this morning:

In general, I think "Is X out-of-character?" is not a terribly useful question for a writer. It shuts down possibility, and interesting directions you could take a character.

A better question, I believe, is "What would it take for Character to do X?" What extremity would she find herself in, where X starts to look like a good idea? What loyalties or fears leave him with X as his only option? THAT'S where a potentially interesting story lies.

In practice, I find that you can often justify much more from a character than you initially dreamed you could: some of my best stories come from "What might drive Character to do [thing he would never do]?" As long as you make it clear to the reader what the hell pushed your character to this point, you've got the seed of a compelling story on your hands.

for 2024 can we finally abandon the word "problematic" in online arguments and just say what we mean. its such a nothing word nowadays

i've literally seen it used to mean anything from "this old movie is a little bit tasteless" to "this real person is actually violently bigoted." so can 2024 be the year of not dancing around words and hiding behind euphemisms

as someone who has been involved in union organizing through my dad's union since i was literally in second grade, the way that people on tumblr think unions work drives me literally insane

unions do so much more than just strike. unions bargain. unions sit in at meetings with upper management. unions help people navigate benefits. unions coordinate aid drives for disabled members. my union ran a donations campaign for me for the interim between the end of my allotted paid leave and my disability claim

"unionize your workplace" means so much more than "talk to your coworkers about striking." you gotta actively know what a union is and what a union isn't before you can form one. calls to unionize should lead to more people learning their rights and learning how unions work, and coordinating with orgs like seiu and the teamsters and the aft (and if you don't know what those are, look them up).

My union found me a legal expert to help me check over my last redundancy settlement for free, provided private medical cover whilst I was unemployed, and negotiated a good deal on cheap insurance for their members. It is so much more than strikes.

One unexpected thing about being on T is the way that cis men are also jealous of you

Trans men being jealous? Especially those who aren't on T yet? Yeah fair, expected that one

I did not expect cis men to start being like "how are you 4 months on T and already have a deeper voice and more facial hair than me" lmao

But also it really just goes to show you that testosterone affects everyone differently and that 100% includes cis men as well. Chances are that if you're dysphoric about your voice, height, etc. there is also a cis man out there rn insecure about the exact same things
