I love their little mini drive by reunions, like they always take a sec to stare lovingly at each other in the midst of danger just to get that final flirt in before they go off to kick ass and resume mutual badassery.

this moment from “The Empath” makes me want to bite glass every time i watch it

[Video Description: A short clip from the Star Trek episode “The Empath”. There is no dialogue. Bones hesitates before walking away from Spock. Spock slowly sits down next to an unconscious Kirk, looking at him as he does so. The Empath, who has started to follow Bones, stops and looks at Spock. She appears intrigued, curious. Her and Spock make eye contact before Spock quickly turns away, looking down at his device. The Empath makes her way to Spock and places her hand on his shoulder. Once she does, he snaps his head up, alert. There is a zoom in on The Empath’s face as very sweet, lovely piece of orchestral music plays. The Empath smiles. End clip.]

An interesting difference in the Blish novelization of Amok Time: Apparently Kirk was semi-aware, just paralyzed there at the end, and heard Spock's exchange with T'Pau before finally losing consciousness.

Then, well, we get this:

I started watching Star Trek TOS and really fell in love 🧡

I love the adventure, the characters, the aesthetics, and more 💫

But I think there really is an epic love story between Kirk and Spock, it's so pure and soft that it makes me feel happy and in love 💛💙

I would’ve killed to be in the pitch room when they were coming up with starting TOS season 2 off with Amok Time.

“Hey guys what if we bring the series back with Spock going into a horny rage due to a reoccurring 7 year Vulcan heat that gets solved by rolling around in the sand with his captain and ends with the only smile we see from him not under the influence of something when he thinks he killed Kirk but finds out he didn’t actually.”

A room full of maniacs: “go on.”

It's even funnier when you look at production notes, and see how the showrunners were putting pressure on Sturgeon to make Kirk and Spock more affectionate to each other. Or how the following rewrites were in the line of adding more fuel (like the biology conversation, which was simply not there in the original).
