We lost such an amazing beautiful young woman with tremendous talent tonight for the sheer fact that there are still not sufficient gun control laws in place to stop horrible things like this from happening. Her voice and talent will live on and she’ll never be forgotten. I’m so blessed to have had the pleasure to grow up watching her and see her grow as well. She raked in a huge amount of views on YouTube with her covers, wrote songs that touched everyone, toured with Selena Gomez, made third place on The Voice, toured all over the world and she deserved every second of it. My thoughts and prayers go out to her family.

Shoutout to every woman who has ever seen a stranger crying and stopped to help her. To women who pretend they know someone at a bar to get her away from a creep. To women who stay with a stranger who is scared and too drunk in the bathroom. To women who have put their body between a girl and someone out to harm her. To women who get a friend home after she has been roofied. To women who have been in a fistfight when a man won’t keep his hands to himself. To women who are scared but send in their friend, the bartender, the bouncer. To the fact that each of those is a woman I know, most of them several women.

My friends and I saw a man chasing a woman and screaming at her. My friend who was driving pulled over hard and we threw open the door and said, “get in!” And she looked at a group of women and threw herself in, on our laps, crying and cold. We said we would take her home. She said he was telling her how he’d rape her since he bought her a drink at the bar.

If I hear one more time that getting free drinks is a privilege I will fucking scream.

It’s time for me to tell you a story. A story I didn’t really want to tell but I’m going to tell anyway. My friends and I frequently go to this pub, a divey little place nearby our work, to have dinner and a drink. So this one time I went with my group, and while we were sitting at the table, I got sent a drink.

I’m eighteen. Not old enough to (legally) drink. To be fair, I don’t look eighteen, especially when I come from work, but anyway. I got sent this drink from this guy who was sitting at a bar. It was pretty obvious that he was about thirty or so, and when I looked up at him he waved. I felt slightly disconcerted, but reasoned that he probably didn’t realize that I was so young. So I made the mistake of going to the bar.

“Hi there,” I said. “I appreciate the compliment, but I’m actually only eighteen.” And that was when he grinned and said “Wow I really did luck out” “I’m sorry, I’m really not interested.” He gave me that look– you know the one, the one where there’s the flash of anger that suddenly disappears behind a predatory smile. “It’s rude to not accept a gift.” Unsettled, I went and sat back down. He continued to stare at me for the rest of the evening but thankfully because I was with my friends I figured he wouldn’t bother me.

I went to the bathroom (it’s just a single room, not a group of stalls), and I hear someone knock on the door. I say, “Just a minute.” and then the doorknob jiggles. “Hang on a second,” I say. I finish my business, open the door, and then I get shoved back into the bathroom by the guy from the bar. I didn’t wait, I didn’t hold on, I didn’t pause– I just let loose a full-pelt scream. Almost immediately, the bartender, a young woman about twenty-five, throws open the door and just fucking bodychecks the bar guy, grabs my hand, and hauls me out of the bathroom.

He didn’t get the chance to lay a hand on me, but it’s pretty obvious what he was looking to do. And if it hadn’t been for the fact that the bartender had been keeping an eye on him from the moment he sent me a drink that night, seen him go to the bathroom after I did, and been on high alert– well I’m not sure what would’ve happened. I’d rather not think about it.

Girls protecting girls is the most important thing

Percy Jackson Appearance Headcanons

So I got a few requests for more Percy headcanons so I figured why not give a super extensive list of how I imagine him.

He was definitely the type of kid that transitions from cute-but-sorta-awkward-malnourished-looking-scrawny-duckling to holy-shit-when-did-this-happen-you-have-the-looks-of-a-roman-god
He actually has hella good bone structure. High cheekbones, straight nose, nice jaw line, very angular. He gets that from Sally but where Sally had a softness to her bone structure, he gets Poseidon regal sharpness.
His features are very roguish as well (Something that gets worse and worse as he grows.) There has also always been something distinctly untrustworthy about him at first glance - part of it is from his crooked trouble maker smile and the slight mischievous glint to his eye, the other part is from the brooding stare and snarky tone of voice he has the other 80 percent of the time.
A few kids when he first came to camp thought he might have been a son of hermes for these very reasons.
He has an awful case of resting bitch face - to the very point that he looks unapproachable and highly intimidating. He inherits Poseidon’s natural brood and sharpness which mixes with Sally’s hella fine bone structure to give a perfect blended look of unsociable, uncommunicative, detachment. It’s not as bad when he’s young but as he gets older and all of his features sharpen and mature, does the intimidation factor grow.
His hair is so so nice. It’s as black as night and extremely thick. It’s parted messily on his left and is tousled and disheveled in that windswept way that makes you just want to run your hands through it.
He has a natural creamy tan tone to his skin as if he’s always just got back from the beach or spends most of his days out in the sun.
He literally looks the part of the stereotypical bad boy - ripped up clothing, tousled black hair, wicked smirk, brooding resting face, haughty facial features, scars, hot - not to imply I think he acts or is characterized that way, not at all, but as far as looks go he embodies that stereotype.
His eyebrows are amazing - arched in just the right way and very defined. It’s hard to tell if you’re not up close but there is a thin scar running along the edge of his right eyebrow. The skin there split when Gabe had punched him a bit too hard when he was younger and never healed properly.
Speaking of Gabe, there are more assortments of permanent reminders that Percy got from him. There are glossy polka dot scars that litter his forearms - a result of a burning cigarette being pressed into the flesh. Then there is a scar on his right shoulder blade where Gabe had ‘accidentally’ knocked him into the stone counters and the corner dug into his back.
His body type is lean and tall. He’s not bulky or bulging with muscles but is defined and toned in that perfect lithe swimmer body way.
He walks very lightly on his feet - this comes from many things, originating from sneaking past Gabe around the apartment so he wouldn’t be noticed. Then from the assortment of boarding schools when he was outside of his dorm passed curfew. Then from sneaking around camp(whether it be for quests or with Annabeth ~~if you get what I mean~~) Then finally from sneaking passed monsters.
He stays at a pretty average height for most of pjo, always seeming to be an inch or two below Annabeth until the Battle of the Labyrinth and he is exactly parallel to her. In the Last Olympian he finally gains a good few inches on her but SoN and MoA are the beginning of all the major growth spurts (did you see the way he inhaled all that food in hoo, that boy is totally growing.) He actually ends up being pretty tall (6′2′’)
I wanted to talk about his smiles but I already made a post about that so here are my head canons on that for anyone who’s interested (X)
He had braces right after the end of the sea of monsters right up until the beginning of the battle of the labyrinth. (They were blue of course.)
His accent isn’t too strong but isn’t subtle either. Being born and raised in New York will definitely alter your way of speech and his accent becomes stronger when he’s really angry or excited.
His posture definitely isn’t perfect - he slouches in what appears to be a “I don’t care” type of way which adds to the appeal of the “trouble-maker” appearance and makes him seem a bit shorter than he really is. This posture originates from him trying not to grab the attentions of other.
Percy’s definitely a late bloomer. He’s always been on the awkward/cute side of things, but it’s not until fourteen that things really start to pick up and he is pretty decent looking. Nearing seventeen he is solidly into the ‘hot’ category but at nineteen is when things really really come together. Some of his features that had been awkward in his youth are now some of his best. His face has matured, the angles of his cheeks and jaw are sharper, his shoulders have gotten broader, and he’s reaching that final height.

The three smiles of Percy Jackson.

The first is the most common you see - The sarcastic, crooked, trouble maker smile. It’s lopsided and smirkish in all the wrong and right ways. His left eyebrow arches, his hair windswept and disheveled, and you suspect that this kid would set something on fire just because he can. It’s haughty and infuriating but exhilarating and roguish. It’s the thrill of sneaking out in the middle of night with hushed murmurs and bad intentions. It’s the smugness of doing something delightfully wrong and knowing you’re going to get away with it. It’s the smile you know you can’t trust but can’t resist.

The second is the less common, the genuine, and the still slightly crooked smile. It’s soft and it’s gentle, but it glows with a burning intensity. It’s the happiness of a lazy ocean and the comfort of a mother’s touch. It’s contentment in its purest form and warms you to the very core.

But the last is different, discerning, and happens far too often for anyone’s comfort. It’s crooked, the way all his smiles are, but far too wide and far too feral. It’s something that’s often tagged along with a hard, broken glint in his eyes and a harsh bark of laughter. It’s sadistic and it’s dark. It’s the raw power of a hurricane. It’s the cruelty of a predator toying with its prey. And it always happens while he’s killing a monster.

There's this thing that y'all don't seem to get.

Gryffindors don’t give a shit about rules. The most hardline of them don’t even care about people. They care about justice. Right or wrong, black or white, there are no shades of grey. If it’s just, it’s always just; if it’s unjust, it’s always wrong. Hermione’s ruthlessness makes her a Gryffindor. She is absolutely sure that she is on the side of justice in everything that she does, and it’s such a Gryffindor trait.

Because Slytherins are ruthless, but they care about rules. Their own rules, usually, but rules nonetheless. They will impose parameters and limitations on themselves just so they have a framework to operate within. If doing something means violating their own internal code, then they’re not gonna do it. Even fucking Voldemort is like that. He broke every single fucking rule the Wizarding World ever put in place, but damn if he’d break his own.

And Ravenclaws? They hate rules. Fucking things just get in the way. They prevent creativity and keep people from accomplishing their goals. Ravenclaws are probably some of the most dangerous people in the entirety of the book series, because they’re brilliant and creative and ambitious and prideful, and when they snap, they do not have inhibitions. They will wreck everything that ever had the nerve to get in their way, and they will never once feel bad about it.

And then there’s Hufflepuffs. They emphasize equality. If the playing field is equal, then all other good things will come from there. People hear that, and they think that Hufflepuffs are pushovers. They cast them as the shy ones, the fearful ones, the insecure ones. Really, they’re none of these things. They are nice, accepting, friendly, this is all true, but they are also entirely willing to fight anyone that steps up to the plate talking shit. Hufflepuffs will defend themselves and other people until they drop dead, and it’s infuriating to see that only ever attributed to Gryffindors. Because the big difference is that a Gryffindor believes in acceptable casualties, and a Hufflepuff will knock your teeth down your fucking throat for even suggesting such a disgusting idea. For Hufflepuffs, there are no acceptable casualties; any loss of life is utterly unacceptable.

There are a lot of people that talk about House stereotyping, and then turn around and perpetuate further stereotypes. Gryffindors are not necessarily knights in shining armor; Slytherins are not necessarily callous villains; Ravenclaws are much more than just intelligent, and Hufflepuff is not the motherfucking potato House.
