Make our dreams come true (Poe Dameron x Reader)
This is my first try in the Star Wars Universe. I’m seriously in love with Poe :) comments and tips are more than welcome. And a little reminder: the English is not my native, so sorry for any mistakes.
What is it like to be a wife of Poe Dameron? Or, to be precise, what is it like to be a wife of the best pilot in the whole Galaxy and in addition the craziest man you’ve ever met.
Every mission seemed to be the last. Every time he disobeyed the General Organa orders and risked his life you were getting furious and told him through his komlink that you were going to kick his ass as soon as he landed. And every time when he landed all you could do is running for all you had worth to him, hugged him as tight as you could, and thanked the Force for bringing him back alive.
Before it was easier. Before you did all your missions together and you knew you both had each others’ backs. But now you were five months pregnant and of course no one would allow you to go on the missions. Well, getting pregnant during the war between the Resistance and the First Order was probably not a very good idea.
And here they were again. Poe flew solo against the dreadnought of the First Order, while you were standing next to the General Organa in the bridge, watching the hologram of Poe’s X-Wing, which looked like a fly against First Order ships.
You heard BB-8 voice, saying something about that mission being a bad idea. You still couldn’t always get what the droid would say.
— For the record, Commander Dameron, I’m agree with the droid, - said Leia.
—Thank for the support, General, - you heard your husband’s cheerful voice from the comlink.
— Y/N, please, remind me why exactly did you marry this man? - General Organa asked you and you couldn’t hold the smile.
— I ask myself exactly the same question every time, General.
—Hey, I can hear that! - said the man’s voice.
You just smiled again, remembering how you'd met Poe for the first time when he had just joined the Resistance. You were one of the pilots and was assigned to show Poe around the base. Already when he attracted your attention. Then was your first mission together and it was when you realised that he was the most corageous, the craziest man you’d ever met. And that was one of the reasons you fell hard for him. You never considered that he might feel the same way about you. Every time you met, besides missions, you usually worked on your X-wing and couldn’t be less unattractive with your face covered in mud, your hair and clothes being a total mess. But little did you know, that those were the moments when Poe found you looked the most beautiful.
The confession happened when he returned from the mission, which he was assigned to go alone. When he didn’t report the day he should, you started to worry. Then the week passed and you asked the General to go for a search mission, but permission was not granted to you as no one simply knew where to look for the pilot.
So when, after two weeks being considered gone missing, he returned, in his black X-wing almost torn in pieces, and him barely standing, you were so shocked and relieved seeing him alive, you couldn’t move. It was him, who came to you first and gave you a passionate, almost desperate kiss. You never were kissed like that before. From that moment you were inseparable, for the most part, of course, as the Resistance always came first for both of you. You expected General Organa to be against this relationships, so you were quite shocked when she said she was glad you were finally together, that the people needed a reminder that there were still life and love besides the war.
The loud cheerful scream brought your back to the reality. You looked at the screen, realizing that you were so lost in memories, you missed the whole operation. It was not a big deal though, because of your condition you now were just one of a civilian, who just had an honor for your previous achievements to be present at the bridge. Only Leia did not seem happy. You followed her look and found on the screen the results of the attack. Yes, they won, but the victory was a costly one. They lost all of their bombers and several pilots were never coming back.
The last X-wing landed in the hangar and the ship jumped to the hyperspace. You hurried to the hangar to meet Poe. But your pregnancy and the crowd in the halls slows you, so when you actually reached the landing area, you found Poe and Finn hugging.
—So he’s just returned from the craziest and most dangerous missions and look whom he’s hugging first, - you said loud playfully.
You too however were more than happy to see Finn had finally recovered. He was so badly injured, someone in the Resistance even thought he wouldn’t make it.
—Y/N! – you heard the Poe’s voice and the next moment he locked his arms around you so tightly you could hardly breathe. So dear smell of X-wing oil, sweat and Poe’s cologne hit your nose. You felt how every muscle on pilot’s body relaxed. You knew the feeling. None of you could be completely quiet and calm until the other was near, flesh and blood, and save. He placed a kiss on your lips. The kiss like the very first one he had gave you years ago. The kiss he always gave you since that then, when either of you returned from the mission.
— Ok, I think we should find Finn something to dress, he looks really weird in this thing, - you said, looking at the guy, who still looked quite lost.
When Finn was finally dressed and you answered most of his questions, three of you returned to the bridge. And the first thing you saw was how General Organa slapped your husband on his face and told him he was reduced to the Capitan. You quietly left the two alone. There was tacit agreement between the two of you that neither of you never interfere in the relations with your superior. If you or Poe messed up, you got the punishment you deserved, and the other did not try to get the partner out of the mess.
— So what are our plans now? – you asked Commander D’Arcy, coming to the main screen.
—We need to find another base to send the Distress single to those who still supports the Republic, - the woman ansewered.
Meanwhile the ship left the hyperspace. You opened your mouth to say something, then heard the signal that indicated the approaching enemy.
— What the… - you came to the window.
— Impossible, - said Finn, coming to the central table.
— Can we jump? - Poe came to you and wrapped his hand around your waist. The thing he usually did when he was nervous
—There is enough fuel only for one jump, - said one of the crew members.
— Wait! - you said, with a sudden hit of realization, — They track our speed, that is how they found us.
— But still they managed to do this, - said the General
— So we trapped? - Finn asked.
— Not yet, - Poe left your side and came to the General, - Permission to jump into the X-wing and blow something up?
Poe headed to the hangar.
— Poe! - you called him and he stoped, turning towards you.
— Be careful, okay?- you said, squeezing his hand tight. The jester you usually did when you were nervous.
— When am I not careful? - he asked with the mischievous smile on his face, but seeing how you expression has changed he added, - I will. I love you Star Girl, - he placed a gentle kiss on your forehead.
— I love you too, Flyboy, - you said looking how he disappeared in the crowd. You felt a sudden kick in your belly and put a hand on it.
— Don’t worry, Daddy will be alright.
You headed back to the General, who was giving orders to anyone. You hated being the one so useless on board. Suddenly a loud blow attracted your attention and the next moment you saw on the screen that the hangar was destroyed.
— No, - you turned around and started to run as fast as you could. You heard the General calling out your name, but you ignored it. There was only one thing on your mind now.
There was another agreement between you and your pilot. You wouldn’t believe that the other was gone until you saw it with your own eyes. And now, heading to the hangar, trying to get through this crowd, you were trying hard to pull yourself together, saying that it was not time to cry, that maybe Poe didn’t make it to the hangar and was still alive.
The other blow, now behind you, sent you flying for several meters, and hitting the head on something, you fainted, not even having a chance to realize what had just happened.
When you recovered yourself, you tried to concentrate your vision. In front of you people were running and screaming something. Obviously no one paid attention to you. You stood up and checked yourself for the injuries. Nothing seemed to be broken. So you should have only hit your head.
Poe. You remembered where you were going before the blow got you. You continued your path to the hangar. It was a total mess. You saw injured, trying to make the blood stop, some of them wouldn’t make it, you thought, considering how severe they wounds were. Suddenly you saw so familiar orange suit, standing near the window, staring desperately in the open space. The bridge was blown into pieces. No one made it. And you knew what Poe thought. You tried to call him, but the attempt only caused your head spinning and you leaned against the nearest wall, looking at the man you love. He was desperate, he thought you died and was trying to identify you amongst the pieces. And you wasn’t able to tell him you were here alive. You tried to call him for the second time, but your weak voice drowned in the noise and screaming.
There was a sudden movement. Everyone headed to the door and the next thing you saw was General Organa. You heard screaming that she was alive, heard Poe calling for the help, but you still couldn’t move. Suddenly Poe turned around and you met his eyes. You gave the man a tired smile. He ran to you and hugged you. Hugged you so tight you were afraid that he might broke your rib cage.
—Are you okay? - he finally let you go, examining you with the worried look in his eyes.
— Yes, - you nodded, feeling tears in your eyes. It was so close this time. You thought you lost him. He wrapped his arms around you once again,
— It’s ok, Star Girl. It’s going to be alright.
He tried to hush you, though he himself was on the verge of falling apart. He was sure he lost you. He never felt such anger before. For the First Order, but even more for himself for his helplessness, for not being able to protect you. When he saw you, leaning against the wall, barely standing, he couldn’t believe his eyes at first, thinking he was hallucinating.
— How is the General? - you asked, trying to change the topic and distract the pilot.
—The condition is critical, but stable, - Poe said.
— You know she’s the tough one, she’ll make it, - you placed a hand on man’s cheek. Poe did not have time for the last couple of days to shave, so his cheeks now were covered with stubble now. You thought you liked it, - come on, you need to change, - you said, looking at the man’s suit covered with something black, obviously from the blow.
— I think we both need, - he said, smiling at you and wiping something from your cheek.
So you headed from the scene, both limping, both supporting each other, both exhausted, but both still alive and together, that was all that mattered to you.
The two of you reached the room you shared together on the ship. You sat on the bed, still feeling a little dizzy. You looked how Poe took away his flying suit, put a shirt and then his leather jacket.
Everything was happening way to fast.It was only one day and you already lost half of your people, all the X-wings were blown up, you both almost died, the General was alive, but in a coma and nobody knows what waited for you ahead. It was the first time the doubt started to grow inside of you.
— Y/N, are you ok? - you heard soft little worried voice of your husband. He sat in front of you and you met his eyes. These dark eyes, you loved so much.
— Yes, yes, I am, - you said in a quite tone. You run your fingers through his dark curly hair. The man closed his eyes.
Of course, being pilots of the Resistance in the war, you knew the risks of some of you dying were extremely high. You always knew how risky was the life you two had chosen. But only today you truly realized the feeling of loosing him, and you understood that you couldn’t live without him. He’d become the part of you. Your heart almost stopped the moment you’d heard the blow. And in that moment you realized all the real terror of the thought of loosing this man. Your man. Your pilot. Your husband. Your Flyboy.
— Poe, - you said quietly.
— Hm? - he opened his eyes, and look at you with such an affection you felt your cheeks started to blush. Gosh, you missed these moments of just two of you together. No fights, no missions, no Resistance, just you two. As the conflict escalated there were fewer and fewer of such moments in your lives.
— What if we won’t make it? - you asked, moving your fingers along his face, feeling all the little scars on his skin, - I mean, we have no weapons to fight, the fuel has almost ran out, and the First Oder is on our tail. I’m scared Poe. For the first time in the whole life I’m scared.
— Come on, cheer up a little, Star Girl, - he said as cheerfully as he could, - we were in much worse mess and managed to get out alive. And we will get out of this one too.
The truth was he was scared too. Scared because there was nothing he could do. For the first time he simply didn’t know what to do. They were trapped in the stupid ship and only miracle could save him. And that feeling of helplessness were killing him. But he knew he had to be strong and keep this spirit for your and your future baby’s sake.
— And besides, I’m always here to protect you. Both of you, - he put a hand on your rounded belly and you couldn’t keep the smile appearing on your face.
— Do you believe in me? - he asked.
— Poe, you are the only thing left I still believe in,- you said placing your hands upon his.
— Then everything will be alright, believe me. We’re going to win, and then we are going to leave it all and go to the Yavin IV to live peacefully and raising our kids.
— Kids? - you raised your brows in surprise.
—Of course, you didn’t suppose we would stop at just one? - he laughed, standing up and kissing you.
You used to visit Yavin several times, when you had some time off the missions and the Resistance. You sat under the the Force- sensitive tree, which Luke Skywalker had given to his parents as a gift, and dreamed. Dreamed about how the Republic and the Resistance would win and put an end to the First Order, how they would leave the service and would settle in the Yavin IV. He used to dream how we would teach your kids to flight and you knew that even then you wouldn’t be able to stop worrying completely.
— Besides, once we’ll leave the service we will need our own squadron, you know, - he said making you laugh.
— Remind me once again, why did I marry you? - you asked the man still laughing.
— Because I’m the best and you couldn’t resist my charms — he answered.
That was one of many many reasons you loved this man. Even when it seemed that they were doomed and there was nobody or nothing in the Galaxy to save them, he always made her see the good side and made her laugh even through the tears in her eyes. And now, looking in his eyes, she knew that they were going to be alright and Poe got them out of this mess no matter what, so the could made their dreams come true.
