lot of ppl dont really acknowledge it but people can be soooo dismissive and weird about anime and other Japanese media like manga and visual novels and tokusatsu. Like there's often this "eww stupid cartoon" thing but it's not always about the animated aspects as much as it's about it being Weird and Foreign and therefore Lesser. People still just casually call Japanese media "perverted" all the time. People still think Japanese media just simply can't compare to western media. Godzilla Minus One was the first Godzilla film to win an academy award.
like remember in one of the polls where val went up against columbo and we noticed it was getting like really weird how ppl were acting? like ppl were calling her an anime bitch and stuff lmao.
and like we all were like hey this feel antiblack, but i remembered it because that "anime bitch" type comments I've seen in lots of other polls too including this sulemio one.
it's people who look down on anime and think its stupid and worthless. theyre not fujoshis because if they were, they wouldn't be hurling dismissive comments on the basis of the girls being anime characters. because someone in western fandom who would call themself a fujoshi would also have some fondness for anime to be using that term to describe themself. They wouldn't dismiss the medium.
also fujoshis dont give a shit about destiel they got more important and cuter yaoi boys to worry about.
i wouldnt call this fujoshi vs himejoshis for the sole reason of a lot of these people are not anime fans and do not interact with the anime centered yaoi BL fanbases though like... im not a person whos like it cant be yaoi if its live action like im a toku fan lmao but like the "slash" and "femslash" gay ship fanbases and the fujos and himejos dont really overlap as much as u might think
like there is an obvious misogyny at play here but theres also a particular kind of racism i see time and time again in these polls when an anime character goes up against live action

there’s an online mobilisation effort called “blockout 2024”, where people are en masse blocking influencers/celebrities who have been silent so far on palestine to make them lose followers and income. and it’s been making celebrities and streamers start posting links to gofundmes and the PCRF, which is great. But after 7 months of silence, I simply can’t look at many of these creators the same way, and the idea that these people with so much wealth and influence only started caring when something materially forced their hand and affected their social standing should disgust you too.
so accept the meager good these people are doing by posting links, but remind yourself that all of them could’ve been talking about palestine this whole time. sharing resources is truly the bare minimum. remind yourself that your faves aren’t exempt from the criticism attached to attending the met gala because they’re your faves. and never forget how many lives they could’ve saved if they spoke up sooner, and bothered to put any of their own money on the line.
