I remember the public being mad at the Iranian players for choosing to go meet with the president prior to the world cup and giving him a kit and everything but maybe they did all that so they could protest on the biggest stage by not singing their national anthem and thus shedding a giant neon light on the crimes against humanity going on inside their country? I think if they'd not met with the president and instead chose to go against him before the world cup, they might not have been allowed to leave the country. Either way, i applaud their bravery and pray for their safety.
