As much as I hate doing this,

our landlord just fucked us over.

If anyone's willing/able to help us get screwed as little as possible, it'd be appreciated.

I'm willing to offer a short request (up to 5k words) for anything over $25, with the caveat that I won't be starting on them until we're done moving.

(Please send your request privately with proof that a given donation came from you and I'll stick you in the list)

I'm currently writing for MDZS, but am comfortable writing also for YoI and will try my hand with any show/book I know reasonably well.

The beginning and the ending.

This story is already full of everything I need.

Reblogging again because I'm mildly obsessed with this diptych. The artistry is obviously fantastic, but the symbolism is killing me.

Beginning: First we have Yuuri looking upwards but with his arms closed in upon himself, showing his yearning to shine but also the barriers he's creating for himself. Victor visibly depressed. Both of them isolated. And their respective spotlights and crossed shadows creating a large ❌ and indicating that this is not the way forward.

Ending: Yuuri and Victor respectively help each other find happiness. Yuuri shows himself fully to the world, and Victor finds more fulfillment in a supportive role than he ever did when he was alone under the spotlights. Both their spotlights on the ice form a heart 💜💙

This is truly a spectacular artwork! 🥹

(For those of my followers who don't know what this is about: Yuri!!! on Ice is an anime that was released in 2016 about (fictional) Japanese figure skater Yuuri Katsuki and Russian figure skater Victor Nikiforov. A heartwarming story tackling subjects such as battling through social anxiety and depression to achieve success and happiness. Season 1 ended at 12 episodes with a possible hope for a second season, and confirmed news about a movie being in the works. Titled Ice Adolescence, it was probably going to be a prequel to the series. An animated teaser was released, but due to Covid and other studio issues, the production had been postponed until further notice. Just a couple of days ago, there was an official announcement that the movie was definitely cancelled. Under the circumstances, this was not exactly unexpected news but disappointing nonetheless. 😔)

Thank you SO MUCH for putting so much time and energy into writing this out. When @zombubble helped me come up with the first painting, a lot of this was what we talked about. I played with the lights to make an upside-down heart, I put Yuuri in the ending pose of Stammi Vicino and Viktor in the starting pose and played with the angles to show Yuuri's face and hide Viktor's, because when they were skating in the first episode Viktor was stuck in his burnout and lack of inspiration, but Yuuri was starting to carve his way out of grief and depression by skating in front of Yuuko. When I painted the second one, I picked a pose from the Stammi Vicino duet and tried to keep the symbolism and invert as much of it as I could.

I wanted these to be a celebration of their journey. And I'm so happy when someone sees it.

There should be a fanfic writing game called the showrunners challenge where someone writes a story and partway through someone else can play things like "actor leaves after 4000 more words" or "topic now too politically sensitive due to unforeseen world events" or "lost rights to that reference"

I need this to be a real game right the hell now

I do not have the energy do do a full layout right now b/c it is kickstarter season and I am under water, but here's a prototype that can be solo-played (you can also have a friend just pick from the lists if you want that pvp feeling.)

Showrunner's Challenge By Runawaymarbles (also sorta by sprintingowl)

Begin writing a fanfic. It is a feature length television program being watched every week by thousands. There is no plan. The industry is in shambles. The writer's room is barely hanging on.

At the end of each chapter, roll a d12.

1 Everything at once. Roll twice, use both. If you get this again, keep rolling. Your only way out is to stop getting 1s. 2 Product placement! The next chapter must center (and subtly promote the features of) a product belonging to the most recent brand you've seen. 3 Fan favorite. Your most recently mentioned character (or named object) is now beloved by the audience. You must give it a bigger part in the story, a special destiny, or an important new romance or friendship. If you get this twice for the same character or object, the adoration cools and you must go back to treating the character or object normally. 4 Executive meddling. You must change to a different genre. You cannot go back to a genre until you have changed genres three times since then. 5 Audiences are craving more coziness. The next chapter must be completely low stakes and set you at ease. 6 Audiences are craving more suspense. The next chapter must take place entirely in a single location, ideally just a single room, and build tension with every exchange of dialog. 7 Audiences are craving more action. The next chapter needs to involve at least one extended fight scene, and the weapons must be the last three objects mentioned. 8 Audiences are craving more romance. The next chapter needs to involve a deep, sappy confession of either love or admiration between two characters that have not previously been romantically involved. 9 Go to the most recent line in your fic that references a brand. Due to ongoing legal action, that brand cannot be mentioned again, but you score 1 audience point every time you allude to it in a way that paints it in a negative light. 10 The two most recently mentioned characters' actors have, IRL, gone through a VERY messy divorce or friend breakup. You cannot put them in the same scene, but they must both remain relevant parts of the show. If you get this with the same two characters again, they reconcile. 11 The most recent negative event (stabbing, poisoning, banishment to jupiter) is now the center of a very real IRL news story. You must immediately pivot away from all plotlines involving it and, if possible, also find away to apologize for even thinking to include it without breaking character. 12 The most recently mentioned character's actor has decided to leave the show. You must write them out in the next chapter. If you are brave, also roll a d12. 1--6, they were well loved and their sendoff must be as flowery as possible. 7--12, they were despised by the cast and crew. Mulch them.

You win if you can complete the fic in a state of relative coherency.

Alternate Game Mode: TV Digest Version

Don't write full chapters, just summaries of what happens in each chapter.

Alternate Game Mode: Realism Edition

Start your fanfic with your own telling of the first episode of an existing show, then proceed from there.

I've decided my WIP Wednesday stuff will be a snippet from each chapter in chronological order, from the first draft of the story (which I'm still working on uwu)

Lan Zhan sighs and gestures at the tree line. “From there,” he says pointing, before sweeping his arm across a section of trees, “to there. Fan out; search for Mo Xuanyu.” The juniors bow and immediately do as they were ordered. Only a short while later, Lan Zhan follows a shout to the silhouette of a man slumped against a tree, burning blue spiritual energy being fed into him by Sizhui. “He’s alive,” Sizhui says, “but hurt.” Lan Zhan crouches next to Mo Xuanyu. He can see the resemblance to the Mo family, but there’s also something of Jin Guangshan’s jawline, of his cheekbones, of his eyebrows. His face is bare of the paint Sizhui’d described, and his breathing is labored and wet, but he’s… he’s alive. His core is there, but muted and barely-formed. Not nearly strong enough to have done what the juniors claim he did with the talismans and not enough to get him out of his estate safely. His body is injured, but not egregiously so. Not nearly enough for him to have gone up against the ghost at all, and better than it should have been having fought whatever the statue was. It would seem, knowing what Mo Xuanyu’s been exposed to recently, that both of these things should not be true but they are, and Lan Zhan can’t help but wonder who, exactly, this man is and how he’s seemingly done the impossible.

those of you who've been around since the tnot days may have noticed a shift in writing method on my part.

tnot was written ahead only a bit, but then after i started publishing, i ended up running out of material, having to extend time between chapters, and generally just... getting more stressed with the write-as-you-go thing. so for this one, i'm pre-writing the entire rough draft, first, and then starting edits, and then after i've gotten a good amount of padding of edited chapters, i'll start to publish.

hopefully, this is a lot less stressful for me, and a lot more consistent for all of you!

Anonymous asked:

Hiya! Ascension au sounds veryyyyy interesting……..can I ask what wwx’s design as a god looks like? (For possible fanart purposes………..)

alskdjf omg alright okay yeah!

So Wei Wuxian's godly design is very much a sort of fusion of his Yiling Laozu looks (primarily black with red and grey/silver) and some elements of TGCF's general godly character design (mostly the manhua and the in-book art. I love the donghua's character design but they're very much made for simplicity and I think the gods are ostentatious enough to want a bit More to their looks, usually.) with just a splash of Jiang aesthetics because he's got a fondness for lotus.

WHICH IS TO SAY.

I imagine his robes are a deep black with silver embroidery on the outside. His inner robes are, of course, red, and the inner robe sleeves are narrow and long enough to tuck into his bracers. The black outer robes, with as many layers as you like, are long, but the sleeves are typically only half-sleeves because at the start of the story his main thing is archery. (Similar to donghua Pei Ming's sleeves). (He has a black mulberry bow with silver inlay, red leather around the handle, and a string made partially out of his own hair aslkdjf. Quiver is a black and silver back quiver of some sort and the arrows are fletched with black, with red and silver strings. They're very fancy and come back to him, so he made them look good (literally made them, he spent two years making this spiritual weapon).)

Black trousers and boots, and silver armor with smoke designs on his chest, bracers, and pauldrons (shoulder covers). The armor's not overly elaborate or bulky, and fits his form well.

Wide belt. Silver and/or red accents, black if there's leather.

He has. Dark red eyes, because gods and funky eye colors are my jam, and they glow red when he's really using big power. He also has long hair he wears half-up (A topknot like cql!Wei Ying, but better and also longer, maybe a little wavy. I'm fond of his having bangs, too, so it's not ALL pulled back), and on his head is a silver lotus crown on fire. Very tall flames. Pointy at the top.

Because I like being extra and therefore he does, too, he's taken a few aesthetic tips from Hua Cheng and participates in a bit of hair-braiding up top, nail-painting, and some makeup around the eyes, and he's got some sort of dangly silver earrings I think.

When he's really going for dramatics, he has a whole-ass black cloak on that swishes Very Nicely.

All of this sounds very specific, but it's really more about the Vibes. He has multiple outfits, so if you do end up creating something and have a Different Idea, then by all means roll with it! The Palace of Yiling's colors are black, red, and silver primarily (as he's still the Yiling Laozu) and he does keep his goth kid tendencies, even in the Celestial Court.

His magic is red and gold uwu until he re-learns how to manage using guidao when his body is literally made of divinity, in which case it's red and black when he's using that.

alsdkflsdkjf

Thank you for giving me an opportunity to talk about god!Xian uwu.

I love him so much and he's been cooking for so long in my brain. Of course he wears simpler clothing than this in the mortal realm, but his Godly Look is definitely something I've had a lot of fun coming up with.

For this blog's inaugural Six-Sentence Saturday, I present to you all this snippet from chapter one of In Memory; In Truth:

“It never ceases to horrify,” Lan Zhan says softly, “one merely becomes more adept at handling it.” Sizhui says, “I see. I wonder, why us, though? Why did Mo-gongzi hide us and not people who needed help more than we did?” “That ghost’s power rendered you and the non-cultivators equal,” Lan Zhan says. Given the evidence—how quickly it arrived and tore through a household, the ease with which this thing slaughtered over a hundred people and the sense of power to which bystanders have attested—the juniors stood no better chance than even the least of the Mo Family’s servants. “In the aftermath of such a thing, cultivators are of more benefit. Such slaughter often leads to great resentment.”

I would have posted it earlier but I forgot to make the banner this week and wanted to do that, first. As it is, I have 9 minutes until Saturday ends where I am, and so this is Technically On Time.

the original rough draft of this story started out a) so close to canon and b) with so few tgcf characters.

(I should mention now it's a tgcf/mdzs crossover fic uwu)

but now i have expanded and lan qiren is stuck dealing with gods coming in and out of the cloud recesses and it's hilarious. he can't say anything. what are you going to do, old man, kick a god out of your house? with lan's reverence for people higher in the hierarchy?

you wish, sir

In celebration

of me hitting 200k in the rough draft of my new longfic, and of my having been working on it for over an ENTIRE YEAR, NOW, and also of my desire to start with stuff like WIP Wednesday etc, I PRESENT to All Of You the summary for my Wangxian-centric MDZS ascension au:

In Memory; In Truth:
Some people say that to ascend to godhood is to never die, regardless of circumstance. That ascension at the moment of death negates the death itself, because the person in question was never actually a corpse. Wei Wuxian disagrees. He felt his death, and he knows it happened, and if people want to get picky about phrasing he's more than ready to get into it with them because he died. He absolutely died, then ascended, then left the mortal plane behind with the intent of not seeing much of it at all for the next hundred years or so because fuck that, fuck them, and fuck their politics. If only. Thirteen years after his death-slash-ascension, he's been sent down on behalf of the Celestial Court to find out who's kidnapping their junior officials and why, and he starts by appearing to someone he hears speaking very fervently to a memorial tablet. For some reason, Nie Huaisang is asking for his help and, well… as a god, as this is technically a prayer, he's at least obliged to listen.

I'm so excited!!! But I have to write the rest of the fic and edit before I can actually start publishing. However, I have enough of it done now that I feel confident talking about it with all of you.

You'll find updates about this fic tagged #fic: imit and #ascension au

Feel free to poke me with questions, though I may not give you a direct answer uwu.

Would also like to give a special shout-out and massive thank-you at this point to @thewalrus-said for their absolutely flabbergasting amount of support and encouragement so far, and for helping me keep my motivation going. You're a gem.

This fic.

Thissssssss fiiiiiiiiiiiic.

*This fic.* It's going to drive you insane. It's driving me insane and it isn't even half-written yet. They're going to have to print it on another gold record and send it into space. I'm nominating it for next year's Pulitzer Prize. It's been an honor and a privilege to be a cheerleader and Official Nie Huaisang Consultant for this, and I cannot wait for it to be done.
