if you have a couple of bucks to spare, consider throwing them to The Indian Residential School Survivor Society (IRSSS). they provide counseling and other forms of support to first nations people who are residential school survivors. this is a list of other charities that support first nations people, this list is a mix of charities and ways to learn more about first nation activism and history, and this is a link to a free online college course called Indigenous Canada

Reminder that the Israeli defence force train the US police. 😀

If you live in a black community in the US I’d love to know if any of this sounds familiar.

Not in Chicago anymore, but the cops used to just fucking dissappear people all the time. We know there were places where they would go and do exactly this kinda shit. No one believed us and surprise surprise, they found where people were being taken. It's called the homan square facility, look it up. I promise you with the way cpd acts it's not the only one.

this is from the early 00s

Mom worked in Fayetteville police department in the 80s... Her stories were sad and horrifying People have know idea the extent of brutality. Hell, even to white people who weren't "one of them".

For more cop history, lookup Starlight Tours:

Day 60. They almost grabbed my friend, who ran into the tear gas to make sure her bf didn't pass out. It was thick.

Two cops passed her and one asked if they should grab her. She was coughing, choking. The other cop said no. That she'd be down in a minute anyway. And she was. My friend said she collapsed for a second.

...I need y'all to get ready for whatever the fuck they have planned this summer

Between what's happening in Palestine, Sudan, Congo, the cost of groceries, gas, and our fucking rent....I know for a fact it's gonna be busy for activists and protesters.

And if police have been training with people who a)don't even like Americans and b) really don't like brown people c) absolutely loathe anyone holding the government accountable then I need y'all to understand you are not human to these people. I need y'all to look at the things Israel and America did and then tried to lie to us about through PR and propaganda.

I need y'all to realize they can do these things and then lie about it because Palestinians are not human to them.

You are no different.

And then I need you to realize we are in the belly of the beast and if you think that makes us anything but their favorite targets, you're wrong.

The PR and propaganda and lies about activists and protesters being thugs or uncontrollable or violent will spread, the lie that cops are the victims and need protection will spread, perhaps you'll hear excuses for cops needing More funding.

Don't buy it.

Unconditionally support activists and protesters.

The violence of the people is not oppressive, it's liberating. Have you ever known a people who were violent against their government and weren't motivated by their own liberation? No.

The violence of the state is oppressive, not liberating. Have you ever known a state that was violent against its own people and it helped them be more free? No.

And a state who addressed it's people with violence is a state who does not deserve it's people.

Shut the fuck up about this already.

So shut the fuck up about the hostages. Israel does not give a flying fuck about the hostages so don't pretend this is about them. You have shown time and time again that you would rather let them starve to death and literally get killed than stop the slaughter of Palestinians in Gaza.

centrist guy in 1970 seeing university anti-vietnam war protests in the news

The difference, of course, being that university students in the 1970s stood a good chance of being drafted, and therefore had a direct material interest in opposing the Vietnam war, because the war’s continuation could very well get them killed.

These students, by contrast, are taking a conflict that fundamentally isn’t about them and doesn’t involve them (with the exception of Palestinian-Americans and others with familial relationships in the conflict area), and using it as an excuse to play-act their revolutionary fantasies in a setting they know they’re safe to do so in, secure in the knowledge that push won’t come to shove in the form of something like a draft.

It’s also worth pointing out that the Vietnam protests could legitimately be described as anti-war. Judging by the tenor of these particular protests (and rhetorically analyzing the content of chants, posters, signs, etc.), this round of protest could, at best, be described as a mixed bag: in a “some of them are anti-war, for sure, but a non-insignificant number of them are really just fine with war, they’re only upset their side isn’t winning” way.

Here at Kent State the survivors of the 1970 shooting are going out of their way to support the student protesters. Keep their name out of your mouth.

If anything is "privileged," it's acting superior to an anti-war protest from the sidelines.

Drafting was not the only reason people protested. In the vietnam war, like now, universities were outsourced by the US to develop weapons. Agent Orange was developed in part by several major US universities. Students are protesting the use of their educational funds for military occupation. This makes complete and total sense, there is absolutely no justification for a University to supply resources for the destruction of lives and homes- doubly so when Israel has been bombing Gaza's schools while occupied.

The cracking down on protests is such a losing cause these people think you are dumb as bricks

Did y'all know p2025 suggests there are outside agents who infiltrate US universities? And that it also suggests that US universities need to be protected from those agents?

The fact that NYPD is pushing the "outside agitator" theory with no evidence doesn't surprise me at all. It'd be cops and conservatives who push project 2025 to meet it's goals after all.

That said, side eye everyone who pushes the theory that outside agitators are at US universities. It's becoming clear that's going to be the narrative they use to push the university reforms found in project 2025. We can't let that happen.

As protests start ramping up and violence escalates please remember:

DO NOT PUT MILK IN YOUR EYES FOR PEPPER SPRAY OR TEAR GAS.

It can and will cause infection due to bacteria. Flush with water, distilled if possible, and never EVER wear contact lenses to protests where there may be police retaliation.

Please reblog. It may save someone's sight.

Water reactivates pepper spray and it will hurt like hell. Use saline. It will still hurt like hell but you'll get it over with faster. Here's another link with treatment solutions.

Water does reactivate pepper spray but, importantly, you are flushing your eyes with means filling them with so much water it removes the irritant. There is no pleasant way to deal with pepper spray in your eyes but water is fine if you don't have saline.
