Tyelpe sighed. This was useless.

"Thank you for the water. I want to try and get some sleep before he comes to torture me again,"

Mairon turned to leave, but then stopped and looked back at the elf. "Can I ask... why he tortures you?" he asked carefully.

He opened his eyes from when he had just closed them.

"He hasn't told you?" Tyelpe sounded surprised, "Really?"

"No, and I know better than to ask him", Mairon replied, running his fingers through his hair.

"You're as much of a prisoner as I am," Tyelpe replied, then shook his head, "I don't want to talk about it. I want to rest,"

"I am not a prisoner!" Mairon snapped. "I... I am here because I choose so", he insisted, desperately wanting to believe his own words.

"He gets displeased at everything," Tyelpe grunted, "How will this make a difference?"

"I do not want to displease him. He is my Lord and brother", Mairon explained. "Besides... he might order me not to come to see you again", he added.

The elf shrugged as best as he could.

"Very well, then. Thank you for bringing the water, and now this is the last time we shall see each other,"

Mairon blinked few times as he looked at the elf, then his ears dropped and he turned his head away. "Very well..." he said with a quiet tone, unable to hide disappointment in his voice.

"Unless, of course, you manage to disobey your brother," Tyelpe added, "Do you think that will happen?"

"Disobey him?!" Mairon exclaimed, looking at the elf with horrified expression. "I could not do that. I have given myself to him", he explained. "I have been able to come here because he has never forbidden it, but if he finds out..."

"Drink-" Tyelpe was in no mood to explain such a basic function to a clueless maia but he supposed he would have to, "Closer. Bring it closer,"

"Oh..." Mairon muttered, feeling slightly embarassed. He looked around the corridor warily before stepping through the iron bars inside the elf's cell. He fidgeted nervously as he moved closer, kneeling in front of the prisoner and bringing the cup close to his mouth.

Tyelpe started to drink. He felt much better now. The water was disgusting and oily, but even that much was enough to make him feel better. He didn't speak until he had finished the cup.

"Thank you,"

Mairon kept eyeing behind himself, making sure no one would be coming in and seeing him with them elf. Once the other was finished, he pulled the cup back. "I can try to bring you more clean water next time..." he muttered apologetically.

"I'd appreciate that," Tyelpe was pleased he was finally getting through to this maia- perhaps there was hope after all.

"My brother will be displeased if he hears about this", Mairon sighed as he stood up, gribbing the cup more tightly. "I do not think he would want me to visit you."

Mairon pressed himself more firmly against the stonewall, trying to hide at least part of himself in the shadows. "I... I can't... I'm sorry", he said quietly, lower his head.

Tyelpe looked disappointed and in pain, but the pain was there before.

"Then you are doing wrong,"

"How am I doing wrong? There is nothing I can do to help you", Mairon argued, watching the elf in worry and alarm.

"There is," Tyelpe nodded, coughing. The dust and ash here wasn't good for his lungs at all, "But you won't do it,"

"What? I can't let you go. My bro... my Lord would not allow that", Mairon frowned, taking a hesitant step closer to the elf.

Tyeple coughed again. It was a bad, bad wheeze.

"Of course he wouldn't," He managed, "Water. Need- need water,"

"Water...?" Mairon repeated, confused. "I... I guess I could give you water..." he said hesitantly. "Wait... I mean... I will return soon", he muttered and seemed to melt into the shadows.

After few minutes he returned, carrying a simple cup in his hand. "Will this do?"

He looked up, eyesight blurry from the way his eyes were watering.

"Yes," Tyelpe gasped, though he was unable to reach the cup because of the chains on the wall, "Please,"

Mairon looked down at the cup, then back at the captured elf, clearly in loss. "What... do you need to do with it?" he asked hesitantly.
