I am turning off anonymous asks for a few days because I keep receiving messages telling me that since fat people are a drain on resources we can be treated like shit. As a fat person that’s fucking insulting, that’s telling me that I deserved to be grabbed on the street, ridiculed in school, made to feel like less than human and that is not fucking acceptable. 

I would also like to point out that not all fat people regularly need the doctor’s, the NHS. I go to the doctor’s maybe once or twice a year. That is for my contraceptives. But even if I did regularly go for a health problem I would still be deserving of general common decency and kindness.

Why is it so hard for people to accept that fat people, healthy and unhealthy, allowed and should be allowed to love themselves and feel good about themselves? In fact i’d argue i’d become more of a ‘drain on resources’ if I still felt like shit like I did at 13 because I’d be eating badly, I’d be mentally unwell as well. 

Fuck off with your health rhetoric. People are people and deserve to feel happy and good about themselves. How come no one’s telling me underweight people are unhealthy and shouldn’t be treated properly? Because its not actually to do with health. It’s to do with aesthetics.

You don’t find fat people attractive, you’ve been taught that they deserve ridicule, so you use the easiest way to be shitty to them without coming across as mean and that’s the use of ‘but your health’. Which is a bunch of bollocks.

Never say that to me. I am fat. I am healthy. I am human. I deserve respect. If I was fat and unhealthy i’d still deserve respect. 

Stop using excuses, if you’re fatphobic, you’re fatphobic stop hiding it behind ‘but the NHS, the health, the medical cost’. This isn’t about that. If it was we’d all treat old people who go to A&E for minor issues with disrespect and scorn, if it was my friend who was in hospital for a month for Hypothermia and Septicaemia would be treated with disrespect and scorn, rugby players, boxers, people who participate in sports which regularly injury them would be treated with scorn, people who smoke too much, drink too much, people who’re underweight, people who don’t eat properly (students) and thus regularly get ill, people with chronic pain etc. 

This isn’t about health. This is about the fact people don’t believe fat people should feel happy in their bodies, that they shouldn’t own their bodies and love their bodies. The fact people feel entitled to their right to treat fat people, fat strangers like shit. Fuck off.

You know, it’s really hard to get a large number of notes on sterek creations these days unless you have a huge following built across many years to begin with, because it’s post show and so many people are leaving the fandom behind or aren’t as involved, so I just wanted to say to every sterek creator who is struggling with believing in themselves and keeps comparing their few notes to older works that have thousands of reblogs that I appreciate you SO much. You are amazing and talented and inspirational and you help make my day feel warmer and brighter and more hopeful. I’ve been struggling with a lot of shit in my life and sterek is one of the very few things that keeps me going, and you, as stereks, are as essential as our ship. Getting to enjoy your creations is a blessing and you can bet that that 40 note post you made has made at least one person feel joy, and that has infinite value. Don’t give up on our fandom and don’t give up on yourselves. We’re always going to be as great as we’ve ever been, even when we aren’t as prolific as in our golden days. Sterek is eternal.
