“Baked goods are a huge hit during the holidays. We’ve pretty much sold out before closing every day this week. I’m exhausted.” She took a drink of her beer, turning to the person next to her. “Thinking I need a vacation–if you could go anywhere in the world right now where would you go? Or where’ve you been that you’d love to go back to?”

“So- no way I could get a half dozen cake pops for my nieces, then?” He joked and took his town drink in his hand. Landon took a small swig before setting it down and thinking about her question. “Probably out of the country. I hear Ireland is pretty neat.”

Indecisiveness and Bree were synonymous at this point. She’d spent a good fifteen minutes debating which coffee she wanted. Her brows knitted together, eyes running over the selection of different of drinks again and again as she tried to find the perfect mixture. Nothing was standing out to her though. “This is impossible.” Bree muttered to herself, running a hand through her hair. She read the list again before rolling her eyes and releasing a frustrated groan. “What should I go for, something normal or festive like something with peppermint?” She asked, turning to the person standing next to her in the busy cafe.

Landon was minding his own business and waiting for his order when he heard the woman talking to him. He looked to her- then to the menu. “What type of things do you normally go for? Don’t ever tell anyone this-I might lose cool dude points at work- But I like the Toasted Marshmellow Frappe. That’s just me. Get a bit of cinnamon with it. Amazing.”

“I’m throwing an ugly sweater party to celebrate Christmas.” She announced to the person in front of her as she handed them an invitation. “It’ll be tons of fun with amazing food. Plus we’re having a white elephant gift exchange which can get wild.” She explained with excitement. “It’ll be a party to really deck the halls.” She joked with a laugh. “So what do you say? Are you in?”
Image

“You sure it’ll be good food?” He asked with a raised eyebrow and looking at the invitation. “-That was a tasteless joke- I’ll be there. Sure thing. Do I need to bring anything other than a gift?” Landon asked, putting the invitation in his jacket pocket.

“Which one do you like better?” Safiye asked, she held up two different business cards for them to see. One was a rose gold pink with glitter dripping down it and the other was a gold card sparkly card. “Or are both too much? I just wanted something that stood out.” Safiye explained, she made a couple clicks on her computer. “If you have time maybe you can help me design something more appealing? That is if both are that bad.”

“Uhhh….” Landon looked at the cards for a moment, mainly surprised she was asking for his opinion before deciding. “This one.” He pointed to the gold one. “I like the other one- but it looks more like a birthday invitation than a business card? What are these for anyway?”

“You know about those studies where saying yes to more things will eventually better the quality of life, right? Given that it’s an acceptable thing you’re saying yes to, anyway.” He started, taking a look around him, hands warmed by the steaming cup of black coffee he’d bought a few minutes ago. “I think I’m going to do that. At least until the end of the year, then see if it’s my new resolution.. What do you think? Thoughts?”

“You mean like in that Jim Carrey movie?” Landon immediately asked, knowing the movie all too well. “I suppose it might be beneficial in some cases-” He thought about it momentarily. “Maybe it’ll help, you won’t know unless you try, I suppose.” He shrugged and took a sip out of his own mugs.

“What do you mean you didn’t order these? I just got a bus all the way across the city to deliver them…” Lily’s face immediately fell at the news she was being handed. Why did this keep happening lately? Was someone trying to wind her up? “Somebody paid for them… Maybe you have a secret admirer?”

“I promise you-I didn’t order any flowers.” Landon persisted, immediately feeling bad for the small person in front of him. “Are you sure you have the right address and name?” He raised his eyebrow in curiosity when Lily mentioned an admirer. “I’d highly doubt that’s the reason for them, but come in and drop them off if you’re positive this is the right place.” He motioned to allow them in, highly doubting there was any threat.

❝ WE ACCEPT THE LOVE WE THINK WE DESERVE. ❞

NAME: Landon Matthews GENDER/PRONOUNS: Male, He/Him DATE OF BIRTH: December 16th, 1989 BIRTH PLACE: Santa Monica, California  CURRENT RESIDENCE: Pico Boulevard OCCUPATION: Mechanic at Lancaster Motors FACE CLAIM: Tyler Hoechlin

BIOGRAPHY

trigger warnings: hospitals, sick babies, death

Growing up for Landon was, in his eyes, a typical childhood. However, that doesn’t mean it was all sunshine and rainbows. Born and raised in Santa Monica by Lindsey and John Danvers on an early December morning. Landon was a premature baby, who was in the NICU almost a whole week. The Doctors were Growing sure he wouldn’t make it. It wasn’t until almost 10 days later on a Christmas morning positive results were coming through, soon making a full recovery. His mom called him their Christmas Miracle. Being the religious christian people they are, it was always something they would be thankful for.

In his childhood most things were smooth sailing. A growing healthy child with his whole life ahead of him, with a happy family. It wasn’t until he was about Nine years old his mom got sick. He put on a brave face for her, but truthfully, he was terrified. He’d pray to God to heal his Mom, or at least give her more time, One thing he gained from his mother was a love of writing. He’s always made up stories for her growing up, and she would write them down for him later. So, while she kept getting sick, the more they wrote and told stories to each other to try and ease some of the pain. She passed away not to long after he started high school, and as he grieved, he likes to reflect and appreciate how much time she had, how happy she was and how much life she lived.

As he continued with high school, he grew some friends he loved, and continued to be t happy and take what life had to offer, he was part of the Varsity Baseball team, and to continue with his love of writing, joined the school newspaper and yearbook. Along with that he took AP English classes and became a tutor, which is how he met who he thought would be the love of his life. They dated from Sophomore year and on, moving out of state. with each other for college. When came home right after college graduation, he proposed. And, of course, she said yes. About a year went passed and he comes home after a tux fitting with his groomsmen to her packing her bags to leave him. It was as if his whole life crashed down as he made her stay, and packed his things to come back to Santa Monica.

Now, months have passed, he’s sold her ring to get himself an apartment and he got himself a job. He’s still beat up about it, but he’s done dwelling on it and it was time to move on with his life.
