The Discordant One and He Who Arises In Might, Melkor was the one who dared defy Eru’s theme, introducing his own music. He is the Vala of Change, after all, yet change requires destruction of what was made to create henceforth something new upon ruins. Regardless of whether his melody was approved by Eru and the rest of the Valar or not, Melkor’s music is epic, distinctive and powerful, erupting with passion yet seductive in its own way at the same time.

The third of the Masters of Spirits, Irmo is the master of dreams, visions and desires. His song is surreal, yet no less eerie than the ones of his siblings, exploring both the delights and perils of desires; both dream and nightmare. Alluring violin meets glass harp and organ notes as the evocative vocals of Irmo and his Maiar lead through the gardens of Lorien to a state of transcendance.

Another one of the Masters of Spirits, Nienna is the Vala of grief and compassion. Her song was one of deep sorrow and was interwoven with the world since its beginning. A simple piano melody much like teardrops falling in a lake one after another and emotional vocals as the main element is what composes Nienna’s contribution to the creation of Arda.

A grim Vala; Namo is the Doomsman of the Valar, the Judge of the Dead and one of the Feanturi, the Masters of Spirits. His song echoes his nature, eerie and foreboding, with his sister Nienna and Vala of sadness and comfort also complimenting the melody. A requiem was the main inspiration behind this track, with the background music reduced to a mere drumbeat and a crescendo at the end and deep chorus chanting.

“Is everything alright or are you the Vishanti right now?”

Avatar

“I don’t know what the ‘mysterious ways’ are. It’s a phrase we use to explain the works of the gods.” He sighed with disdain. Stephen knew nothing of this being, yet he had taken a silent oath to keep them safe. “Well, not really I just walked five blocks to find you in this park, New York is always out of the ordinary so everything is ordinary.”

“When everything is out of the ordinary the absurd becomes a reality” she echoed like she was lost in her own mental wanderings. “You are indeed strange, Doctor. The Vishanti made the right choice.” Now she turned to face him. “Thank you.” she said softly. “I appreciate your concern… although it was unnecessary.” She looked away again. “I cannot explain the ways of the gods. I cannot make anyone understand what this is that they see; what I see. I cannot even explain it to myself. But this much I can explain: This night the stars are visible above New York’s lights. It’s like a miracle.”

Stephen immediately understood that prophecy: either the power was going to go out all over the city, or something city-wide was going down. “We must get back to the Sanctum before something actually happens so we can plan.” Stephen grabbed her hand and tried to hurry her back home. In times like these, five blocks felt like five miles. “Also, you’re welcome for the concern. Any disciple of the Vishanti is a concern of mine.”

The Host winced at the Doctor’s grasp but did not try to break free, although she was not feeling at all comfortable in the whole situation; she knew that speed was of primary importance now. She was panting when they finally reached the Sanctum. “Now now, let’s compose ourselves and think.” she said. “You said that you did not detect anything out of the ordinary when coming after me earlier and I do not recall the Vishanti seeing anything irregular either. The Vishanti are purely magical beings, mind you. Therefore this means that the supposed threat might as well not be magical at all. Do you happen to keep a list of suspects of that sort around here somewhere?”

“It might be something the Avengers could possible deal with. Aliens, Skrulls. The list goes on. It could be something of this Earth, I have no idea, I would have had been able to detect it almost instantly. Bright lights in New York could mean anything!” Stephen inhaled slowly, eyes closing to get a grip on the situation and his surroundings. “

“If it does come to our immediate worry, we will worry about it. It could just be Kingpin trying to take Hell’s Kitchen back, I don’t know. For now, we should wait and see what happens. You could have possibly just predicted a massive power outage across the city, that’s all.”

“…and how fun would that be…, however I doubt it works that way…” the Host frowned. “It’s not “bright lights” in general, it was the stars that were shining above the city’s lights. Like a galaxy suddenly appeared above the city and then it was gine. i don’t see it amymore.” underneath the mask she pursed the lips in contemplation. “Maybe it was not a mystical theat per se…. however… the Vishanti still showed it to me… maybe it isn’t about this planet, maybe it’s about a different dimension altogether. Or a minor cut in the fabric of reality that healed itself. That orb you have lying in your study could pinpoint it if it were so, yes?” her eyes raised towards the Doctor’s, flickering.

“Ah, yes, thank you dear…is that acceptable for you?” With ease, he teleported the two of them back to the Sanctum, immediately going to the Orb and looking for any interdimensional activity that did not seem right. “I truly should be thankful to have you around sometimes. I get so worked up I can go into many different directions and never see the true path sometimes. It might have not been anything or someone was disturbing time and space from outside the spectrum.”

“If it is accepteble which one exactly? The “thank you”? Or the “dear”? “she inquired mostly to herself. “It is not frequent that I get to hear either... both are acceptable... I guess...” she managed to say as they teleported back to the sanctum. It ws not like the Host had not been through a portal, but  it still would strike her as something... disorienting at least. As if “disorienting” was not the right word to describe magic 9 out of 10 times... At the doctor;s words she frowned slightly. “I’m happt to be of some assistance, albeit I doubt there is such thing as a “true path”, Doctor... I believe it is all a matter of circumstance and perspective; even the phrase “a singular path” itself is an utopia as far as i’m concerned... But the fact that you get worked up concerns me. That could prove to be a peril to your safety. But you know what you are doing better than I could know anyhow... So...back to the topic. What is it that you see in the orb of Agamotto?”

He listened intently to the Host’s monolouge with his head cock to the side. Near the end, he started to bite his tongue, knowing they were right. “I’m not sure if the Ancient one ascended to the Vishanti when he died, but you sound just like him right now.” Stephen crossed his arms and shook his head, knowing with a clear mind that they were right.

“It’s how Mordo died to black magic, it’s how everyone falls because they see themselves above others for doing things differently. I…got over my head and shouldn’t have said that. My physical support left me so it’s hard to face these things alone.” He shook his head again, thinking even more. “I’ve been righteous and forgiving for most of my life since I got these powers. Now isn’t the time to stop because I’m alone.”

The Host merely raised her shoulders. “Having read that many books and casually conversing with omnipotent deities when they are not busy showing you all kinds of oddities does that to you, I suppose.” she said. “It’s alright, Doctor, there’s no need for you to trouble yourself. It’s just how life is. Everyone needs some support, now and then. Admitting to it is only healthy.”

She remained silent for a while, pondering. “Look…” she said eventually. “I know I’m not the easiest person to talk to or one that is good at comforting or setting one’s mind at ease… But if there’s ever something you need to discuss or you are in need of advice, want to read a good book or just want to have a cup of tea with someone, feel free to pass by.” “… if you are feeling comfortable staying in an abandoned haunted victorian mansion filled with moths and speaking to a person in a mask, that is.” she quietly added.

“Well, I do that all the time.” he motioned to the Sanctum around him. “I do say it is a bit more used, but it is still the same premise.” Stephen was used to the weird, so it didn’t catch him off guard when she whispered on about her spooky abode.

“I will enjoy coming to you for advice and I do state that you should do the same or if the Vishanti has anything to say to their finest soldier. You are a wise soul and I respect that.” Stephen gave the Host a small bow to demonstrate as such.

“Well, what can I say, it would seem that the Vishanti are consistent in their liking towards eerie residences.” she smiled underneath the mask. “Consider it done. If the Vishanti show me something important, you will be the first one to know. And thank you for your offer. You seem like a trustworthy person.” she returned the respectgul gesture and looked directly in his eyes. “I appreciate your opinion,  however I’d beg to humbly disagree. In real life I’m but an academic of the occult; I’m no sorcerer, and I’d be lying if I’d say that I do not find magic in equal parts terrifying and astonishing. I might be the one seeing the dots where the Vishanti point me at, but you are the one connecting them.”

“Ah, that is a first for me. Someone who studies, but does not practice. Quite interesting if I do say so myself,” The tea set was already floating their way, tea being made in mid air.  "I am quite trustworthy, hopefully, I mean, I think I am.“ The mere thought of thinking of that possibility made him chuckle while the set came down to the table. "And thank you, for letting me have this partnership.”

“You are very welcome.” she said absent-mindly, onserving the floating teaset that now was descending onto the table. “A first, hm? Odd... Study is supposed to be easier and less reckless than practice, at least as far as I know... I might have never attempted a single spell, I have first hand experience on what happens when they go wrong...once the Vishanti wanted to call upon Chthon through me for some casual Elder-god chitchat....I ended up being the main target of Chthon’s herald. It...did not bode well. For either of us. I did not agree to become the Host of the Vishanti to try and abuse or disrespect their powers.I did that just for the sake of knowledge. Practice is outside of my sphere of interests...besides, I know that there are enough capable sorcerers like yourself that can handle the things that I cannot...”

She shook her head. “To me as a person? Nothing at all.To me as the Host who is about to witness the Da Vinci of today choking on his own vomit though… it’s something. Would you like my assistance to sit up from your lying position to avoid said unbecoming manner of demise perhaps?”

“…OKay fine.” He admitted quietly looking over at the host quietly. “Ive had a terrible few weeks clearly.”

“I take it as a yes.” the Host murmured and helped Tony up, leading him to sit on a nearby chair. “Well, that’s apparent… would you like to perhaps out with what troubles you?” Her eyes held a small glimmer of genuine interest and perhaps a hint of compassion. “It might make you feel better…”

“I really dont know right now..” He looked down then at the Host in silence.

“You don’t have to. Just say the very first thing that comes to mind. They say a drunk man never lies…” the Host patiently replied.

“I had a civil war with my closest friends and then  found out my friend lid to me for three years about the fact he knew my parents died. His best friend also killed my parents so yeah.”

“Ah, I see. I’m assuming that alcohol will undo all of it…” the Host muttered under her breath. Then she sighed. “Look. I understand that this is certainly a great deal for you to live with…but, Mr Stark, you have to ignore the “with” from the previous statement and focus on the “live”. It will not bode well if you let this bring you down. Besides…all of what you described belongs to the past. And you are the futurist.”

“I know I am the futurist. But that doesnt make alot of this easier..” He says looking up at the Host quietly and biting his lip

THe Host sighed at his words and her gloved hand caressed lightly his cheek. “I am concerned about you. The state you’re in...i’m familiar with. I’ve seen many great people kneeling from their past’s bad choices. I’ve seen people getting back up again. And I’ve also seen some who never made it. They say that what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger. Cartainly you are not dead. Not yet. But at this rate of decline...” underneath the mask she pursed her lips in comtemplation. “If it is that hard for you, then maybe I could help. I could erase your memories of the things that trouble you or the negative emotions attached to them; if you wanted me to, that is. So what do you say, Mr Stark. Yould you accept the gift of sweet oblivion?”

Her eyes were kindly smiling under the slits of the expressionless full-white mask as she observed him from the opposite side of the corridor. "Hmm if it isn't Mr. "Da Vinci of today" Stark... " her voice echoed. "Delighted to make your aquaintance".

“Well I mean I have kind of dropped that title as of more recently.”

Avatar

“Ah but you still are a genius inventor regardless, right?” she said. “We had no idea that the title does not appeal to your ego anymore”. She stopped and pondered for a moment, dark eyes gleaming.

“Or… could it be that this goes a little beyond your ego? How delightful this would be. Has the genius billionaire playboy philanthropist Stark finally become acquainted with the notion of humility?”

Image

“I would say I have an ounce of humility now.”

Hard to believe… But a lovely change if it is so.  Not caused by thrauma, I hope.

I’m the Host of the Vishanti. I really admire your genius in all things technological, if I may add. You certainly live up to your reputation, Mr Stark.

Image

“Sadly yes caused by Trauma. So why did you wanna see me?”

The Host raised an eyebrow under her mask, but did not stress the first part of Tony’s reply; it was obvious that whatever it was that was traumatizing him was still raw and he did not want to discuss it. “Why, I admit I had grown morbidly curious. You are among the people who hold the future of this planet in their hands. As the Visanti keep an eye on mystical entities and sorcerers like Doctor Strange, so do they oversee the most powerful minds on other fields. Perhaps they are curious too… So, since I will be observing you, I thought to make your acquaintance first; it would help my deductions. You are a whole universe of contradictions… I find it fascinating.”

“Wait. I hold the future of the universe in my hands? What?”

“Amongst other people, yes. You have the genuis-level intellect, the resources and the willingness to excell (whether you do it for the world or for yourself, it’s irrelevant). It has worked out well, so far. I frankly fail to understand why you find my statement so shocking.”
