‘Sea Serpent Swallows the Royal Fleet’, “The Gulshan-i ‘Ishq” by Nusrati, 1700 ”A giant sea serpent constricts its gold coils around a royal fleet, its full mouth leaving no doubt as to its intentions toward the remaining vessels. As if the carnivorous serpent were not enough, the alternative is a scary sea filled with demon-headed fish, giant crabs, and turtles, as well as a mermaid and merman. Most of the sailors appear to pray with upturned hands for deliverance from this nightmare. The painting has been identified as an illustration from the Gulshan-i ‘Ishq (Rose Garden of Love) a heroic epic written in Deccani Urdu by the court poet Nusrati for Sultan 'Ali II ibn Muhammad 'Adil Shahi (r. 1656-72 CE). The 'Adil-Shahis were great patrons of the arts and ruled Deccani Bijapur as an independent Shia kingdom from 1489 CE until it became part of the Mughal Empire in 1689 CE. It has been suggested that this painting was produced for an aristocrat at the end of Sultan 'Ali’s reign or during the reign of his successor, Sikandar 'Ali Shah (r. 1672-86 CE). The theme of disaster at sea in this painting may be compared with similar episodes in the Hamzanama as part of the picaresque genre of adventure-romances, featuring heroes who travel through strange lands and meet with danger on land and sea.” Source

God's Abomination: Poseidon

A friend of mine believed that the Apollogous Zillasaurus was cool and deserved a named variant for God's Abomination. So, I present to you, Poseidon.

He's meant to be a Shadow the Hedgehog/Vegeta to Zilla's Sonic/Goku. I like the idea of these two hating each other but reluctantly working together when shit hits the fan.

-----

Lore:

Zilla was a regular arrival in most conflicts where a hostile monster presented itself as a threat. He'd either stamp it out himself, or help Godzilla, Mothra and Anguirus to defeat it.

Years would pass between Zilla and Godzilla destroying the nest that the Apollogous Zillasaurus had been discovered at. And while the site had become a hotbed for research and discoveries, the entire region was still just as mysterious as when it had first been discovered.

This ambiguity led to things being overlooked. Rumblings being waved off as far away monster conflicts.

But then, something emerged from the gulf. A heavily armored variant of the original Apollogous. It was violent as it tore through the research sites, seeming to be searching for any residual offspring or signs that any of them had survived.

With what appeared to be none of the young left alive, the new Apollogous went on a rampage. It sought out Zilla, fighting him within a populated area and trying destroy him.

Their battle was drawn out by constant military interference, but the new beast was persistent. Now designated as "Poseidon," he fought with a vengeful fervor.

Zilla had many opportunities to kill Poseidon, but he refrained, backing off to show that he had no intention of hurting the monster further.

Soon, Godzilla arrived. He fought with Poseidon, but each time he went to strike hard with his claws, Zilla would block him from connecting.

Zilla acted as a shield even with Poseidon continuing to attack him, making sure that Godzilla couldn't reach him with a deadly attack.

After the fight drew on for longer than Godzilla would stand for, he charged his atomic breath, preparing to blast Poseidon. Zilla once again stood in front of his rival, ensuring that he would take the blast if Godzilla decided to do it anyway.

Godzilla slowly powered down his blast, allowing it to extinguish as he watched Zilla and then Poseidon.

With the knowledge that his life had been spared more than once that day, Poseidon fled, heading back to the water and vanishing.

Zilla, seeming grateful to Godzilla, returned to his home.

Poseidon was not an ally. Not yet, anyways. But if he wanted to survive, he'd have to weigh his options.

Allow his enemy to live and let his mission of vengeance fade? Or suffer the wrath of... God's Abomination.
