Unpopular opinion, but you can acknowledge that certain events are tragic and feel compassionate sympathy for those involved while simultaneously knowing that unless there is something you can do that will directly, tangibly help the victims, it’s really not your business and there is no point in you worrying about it, letting it effect your mental health and arguing about it with strangers on the internet. The attitude of “don’t worry about it and mind your own business” might seem callous in today’s culture, but we were never meant to carry the weight of all of the world’s myriad tragedies.

If there is something I can do, I want to do it. I will always pray for the victims of tragedy. But if there’s nothing else I can physically do aside from be outraged across the globe, that’s not helping. That’s performing.

Seriously, I think this is a big hole in a secular society. If you take away prayer - an opportunity to acknowledge pain you can't do anything about, and give it to Someone who can, then release your emotional attachment, knowing it's in the hands of the infinitely compassionate and righteous Almighty - then what are you filling that space with? Hollow fury and endless anxiety over what's far beyond your control? Performative activism that boils down to "whoever's more emotionally wrung out over the greatest variety of injustice and tragedy is the better person"? Or callous ignorance and a fruitless attempt to not let the sharp edges of this world touch you at all?

I dated a man who belittled me, threatened to hurt my family, stalked me, and made me cut all my friends out of my life. And people are pretty quick to agree that he was abusive.  My brother dated a woman who made him quit his job because she didn’t want other girls looking at him, repeatedly locked him out of the house in freezing temperatures in the middle of the night to “teach him a lesson”, and refused to be seen with him in public if he wasn’t dressed to her standards. And almost no one calls her abusive. People have called her “crazy”, “high-maintenance” and “jealous”, but not abusive.  And that’s not right. 

In relationships, women and girls can get away with a lot when it comes to their male partners. When women are belittled and manipulated by their male partners, they often hear “leave him, he’s abusive, he’s no good”. When men are belittled and manipulated by their female partners, they hear “that’s just how women are!”, “uh-oh, someone’s in trouble!” or “you’ve got to keep your girl happy!”. We pretend that women are naturally jealous and toxic, and that men are supposed to quietly deal with being put down, spied on, or even hit without complaint.  That’s bullshit, and no gender benefits from this nonsense.  Women are capable of abuse. We aren’t innocent little kittens, who bite and claw because they don’t know any better and aren’t capable of causing real harm. It’s not cute when we mistreat our male partners. We are completely capable of doing real, lasting damage to a man’s mind, body and self-esteem.  Women are capable of controlling their jealousy. I see a lot of pictures and quotes shared by my female friends, boasting about being crazy or proudly declaring that being jealous is a part of who they are. We shouldn’t feed ourselves this sexist garbage. Women are perfectly capable of respecting their male partners’ privacy and trusting them to interact with other women. 

Women are capable of calling out other women. If you see your girlfriends humiliating their boyfriends or intentionally messing with their heads, put a stop to that shit. Call out abusive behaviour when you see it. Women often see exactly how their friends treat their partners, and this kind of nonsense makes all of us look bad. Fight domestic abuse in all its forms.  Male survivors of female abuse often feel lost, weak, and ashamed of what they’ve been through - there are very few resources out there for them, and virtually no shelters or safe places for them to go. Their stories are not believed, or they are made to feel that the blame lies with them -  as if this is happening because they are not manly enough, they are not tough enough, they are not strong enough. Enough is enough. Women can be abusers. Men can be abused. It’s time to believe them.

The EXTRA fucked up thing is, almost NO pokemon has a base friendship of 0. The only pokemon that do are legendary pokemon and buneary. So Ghetsis actively lowered his Hydreigon’s friendship, and the only way to do that in-game is to let your pokemon faint often without using healing items on them

The full story is on here. I'm appalled, but ultimately not surprised. Some of the shit said to Meagan Chen (Hamill's son's baby mama) I'd disgusting. The CFO of Hamill's production company alleged that this was a money making endeavor for Chen, which is ridiculous because Chen hasn't been paid any child support and nobody has talked about this. For reference, her daughter was born in 2016...the kid is in kindergarten now, and people are just now dragging up Mark Hamill's dirty laundry on this subject. Absolutely disgusting.

Sooooo... Hamill and his family are collectively deadbeats who refused to pay even basic child support despite being rich, making his own grandson live in poverty, because the baby was a "child that nobody wants" despite the fact that the mother obviously wanted it. The baby's... mother in law? Set up a medical appointment that the mom thought was an ultrasound and it turned out to be an abortion referral, Mark Hamill accused her that her refusal to abort was a "money making scheme".

So, a very vocal pro-choicer out here actively making pregnant women's lives hard, while shilling for abortion and mocking people who give women a variety of other options.

I really hate the secularization/tumblrifying of Saint Joan of Arc. like y’all really do not understand her at all

St Joan was deeply religious, and devout in her faith. She required her soldiers to receive the sacraments before battle, forbade foul language and drove prostitutes from her camps.

One of her most famous quotes is her response to be asked if she was in a state of Grace. “If I am, may God keep me there. If I’m not, may God put me there.”

St Joan wore men’s clothes because she was around men a lot and didn’t want her sexual behavior called to question, and in prison she continued to wear men’s clothes to prevent sexual assault by guards. Otherwise she was recorded wearing women’s clothing and she never once pretending or claimed to be a man. It irks me when people try to attribute a lgbt/ trans status to her because it diminishes what she accomplished as a woman, going against the norms of the time.

Joan of Arc wrote a letter to the Hussites, condemning them for their destruction of Christian sites and art, and murder of Christians/ Catholics and basically said “When I’m done with the English, I’m coming for you next”

Abortion is quite literally the tool used by the ruling class you hate to subjugate pregnant people into having kids or not having kids when convenient for them. It has stagnated workers right and student rights and literally every other right on the table, precisely because it relies on the killing of an innocent human being they refuse to help.  The ruling classes you claim to hate use the unborn human being as a scapegoat to shift the blame of oppression and hardship from themselves, so that you never truly free yourself from their corrupted control over your gonads and life choices.

And y’all eat it up as if it makes you the downtrodden rebel fighting for the oppressed masses. Hard to fight for them when you let them get killed instead, huh?

the thing i hate most about the birth control argument is the idea that your ONLY options are poison or teen pregnancy and like....no? it is decoupling sex from reproduction, and reducing the weight of that decision, that makes this a problem.

you don't even have to be a religious extremist (i was not raised that way, i became that way on my own) you just have to have common sense.

bare minimum logic: no matter how careful you are, any method of contraception can fail. don't have sex unless you are ready to deal with a baby. don't have sex with anyone who would leave you with a baby or who you wouldn't want to raise a baby with. killing babies is not acceptable and not an option.

treat it like a huge responsibility, because it is, and the issue resolves itself.
