It’s definitely a Harry Styles year. He is the first man to grace the cover of American Vogue alone in the December 2020 issue, and search engine Lyst has now named him “trendsetter” of the year, aka the male personality who has been most influential on the 2020 fashion industry. He succeeds Timothée Chalamet who occupied first place on the podium in 2019.

A year of Harry Styles

Harry Styles wears a countless number of hats. Not only is he a millennial idol with a successful solo career with 33 million Instagram followers, but he made his acting debut in Christopher Nolan’s film Dunkirk. The former singer of the group One Direction seems unstoppable. To top it off, his amazing taste in fashion has landed him a collaboration with Alessandro Michele for Gucci, Harry Styles’ favorite designer.

His latest album Fine Line has propelled him to the forefront of the music scene as well as the fashion world. As Lyst points out, 24 hours after the release of his music video for the single Golden, released last October, Styles had a definite influence on fashion trends. For example, internet searches for blue and turquoise blazers increased by 52%, while searches for yellow bucket hats also increased dramatically by 92%. Not to mention the fashion challenge that flourished on social media earlier this year which invited fans of the British singer on TikTok to recreate the knitted cardigan he wore during a rehearsal of his performance on the “Today Show ”. Searches for knitted pieces also increased by 166% during the last week of June. What does Harry Styles have in store for 2021? We can’t wait to find out.

“It’s always an uncomfortable moment, I think, when you find the thing. You don’t know if you love it or hate it because you don’t really know what it is yet, but I think that’s the most exciting place to work in.”
