wow i am still really annoyed by the fact that ana never gets an onscreen reaction to the fact that she can’t have kids. she’s not even really told onscreen... it’s heavily implied that edwin tells her, but the scene fades out. i know that the focus of that ep is really on getting jason back and all that but g o d that still really annoys me

❛ what do you think you’re DOING? ❜ she had thought she had heard something, and she remained correct. it was now close to THREE AND A HALF MONTHS since peggy’s disappearance, and while nothing had been made official just yet, the silent agreement she had died during the mission with the tesseract was practically seeping through every crack of S.H.I.E.L.D. headquarters. she hadn’t taken a single step into the room peggy used to sleep in, not yet, it was still TOO EARLY. however, when blue eyes caught the sight of red hair that undoubtedly belonged to a certain ANA JARVIS who was standing in the door to peggy’s room, dottie swallowed harshly, voice dangerously low and defensive as she approached her. ❛ you shouldn’t BE here. ❜

the front door to peggy and dottie’s home was unlocked when she arrived ––– something uncharacteristic for the place, but ana thought she ought to let herself in anyways. if dottie’d forgotten to lock to door on her way out, ana could check the pantry and perhaps tidy up a bit before locking the place back up on her way out again. setting her handbag on the entry hall table, ana started towards the kitchen. she was distracted, however, when she saw the door to what used to be peggy’s room... closed tight. the redhead wondered if the room had been so much as aired out since peggy’s disappearance. likely not, she thought.
( she’d heard that many thought she might’ve died on a covert mission. ana refused to think like that, though. peggy would come back... she had to. )
her original plan forgotten, ana opened the door to peggy’s room –– it was dark but from what ana could see of it, there was a layer of dust covering nearly everything in the room. she was about to step into it - to turn on a light or open up a window - when a voice behind her caused her to jump. “ miss underwood, ” she exclaimed as she turned around, “ i thought you weren’t home !! the door was unlocked and i was going to ––– but then ––– dottie... her room is a mess. ”

❛ i’ve been THINKING— ❜ it’s been a week or two since ana had asked dottie if she’d be willing to train with her. and admittedly, at first dottie had thought it was a joke, she had thought it was utterly ridiculous. ana had HEARD ABOUT what she was capable of. maybe she hadn’t SEEN it yet, but maybe that was were half the fun lay for the russian. she had grown increasingly BORED with the fact that there was nothing to do since she couldn’t leave the house, really, peggy’s conditions. stay so they could have an eye on her 24/7. at first, dottie had been hesitant about the redhead’s request, but then, thinking about how jeeves would be everything BUT pleased with this sort of development, it had brought a smirk to her face. it was the same smirk that was now painting her lips as she was approaching ana. ❛ remember when you asked me to be your SPARRING PARTNER? i think it would be fun. i’m in. ❜
truth be told, ana’d practically forgotten about the request she made of the russian, having written it off as simply not meant to be. however, as dottie approaches, the memory of asking miss underwood if she might be willing to spar with her comes rushing back. with a great amount of effort, ana tries not to look too excited by the other woman’s answer ––– however late it might be. ( should she be worried about that smirk playing in the corners of dottie’s lips ?? ) “ i do, ” she answers simply, “ though i am curious why you’re coming to me about this now. i asked some time ago; i thought maybe you were not interested. ”
ana jarvis has gone through so much and is still the purest thing i’ve ever seen and it gives me hope

hello welcome to my blog. my name is ally and i’m going to be discussing this –– something edwin jarvis says to peggy about his wife, the pureTM ana jarvis, just days after she’s been shot by whitney frost.
ana jarvis was literally just shot. like she woke up in the hospital after a very long ( and difficult ) surgery where the doctors weren’t sure she was going to survive to the sound of her husband pleading with her to please just wake up. the SECOND THING she tells him is basically a joke. she’s trying to lighten the mood. “ i woke up at the bernese mountain dog, but i wanted to see what else i could get. ” literally just woke up and she’s trying to be her usual self.
the quote at the top of the post is what edwin tells peggy in reference to the fact that ana cannot have children ( a reaction we as an audience never get to see from ana herself, but that is a can of worms that i am bitter about for a different text post, and honestly one i’ve already written like twice probably )
she is her usual, optimistic, lovely self. she’s just woken up, just found out that she can’t have children and while yes, it is mentioned that they had a good cry, ana jarvis doesn’t dwell on this. she’s back to her usual self.
but how much of it is a mask? i can tell you right now, probably a lot of that is a mask. in her mind, what happened to her is trivial compared to everything that peggy and the crew need to do. and if she can convince them that she’s okayTM and feeling more like herself, maybe edwin won’t worry and will feel comfortable leaving her with the doctors and nurses so he can go where he’s needed most.
i just?? ? happiness is as much a defense mechanism as anything else and ana jarvis has perfected her bright, cheery little mask. and people have gotten used to her being the happy / cheerful one. she can’t disappoint them by being anything less than that now.
