Far too many people have short memories when it comes to the shit their side did.

White supremacists and police have never been asked to commit to nonviolence. That’s only ever been asked of victims.

That’s only ever been asked of victims.

am i expected to believe the dragon understands the concept of the iron throne deeply enough to hold it and what it represents accountable for driving Daenerys to the point of madness….the dragon gets complex issues of morality is what i’m expected to believe

how this episode should have gone:

-Dany, still reeling from the shock and grief of her best friend’s death, learns of Varys’s betrayal

-They hold a proper trial where Varys is found guilty of treason and subsequently executed. This is highly emotionally taxing for everyone involved.

-Tyrion goes to Jaime and asks him for help removing Cersei peacefully, since he has fears about Dany’s state of mind. Jaime agrees, and they hatch a plan where he sneaks into the red keep and pretends to still love Cersei, appealing to her as a mother rather than a queen.

-Jaime asks Tyrion to tell Brienne that he loves her

-Dany flies on King’s Landing while Grey Worm, Jon, and Davos assemble their armies outside the gates.

-Dany takes out the iron fleet and the scorpions on the walls. When she sees the Lannister troops surrender, she flies straight for the red keep to confront Cersei

-The whole thing with Arya and the Hound goes down exactly as it did

-Jaime manages to convince Cersei to leave with him, and they are at the little shore at the bottom of the staircase when Euron shows up. Cersei turns against Jaime and orders Euron to kill her brother

-Euron and Jaime fight it out, much like they did in the episode. Jaime wins, but knows he cannot continue to live. Finally forced to confront what Cersei has become he kills her, before succumbing to his injuries and dying at her side

-Dany attacks the red keep, believing that Cersei is still inside and unwittingly sparks up the wyldfire, which sets off chain reactions across the city, causing irreparable damage and carnage

-We see Arya trying to get out of the path of destruction, much as she did during the episode

-Grey Worm, Jon, and Davos organize their troops to help people out of the city and rescue them from the fires. They are forced to make terrible decisions during this. We see Grey Worm allowing a few people to die in order to rescue a larger group of people, Davos must leave someone behind because he can’t reach them in the rubble, Jon commits a mercy killing for someone who is too injured to survive

-Cleganebowl goes down almost exactly as it did in the episode, but instead of falling into fire they just fall onto pavement. Arya finds the Hound dying a slow horrible death and he asks her to kill him. This time she agrees and gives him a swift, painless death, waiting at his side while he dies

-Much as the prophecy foretold, we see Dany walking into the throne room alone while it rains ash. She nearly reaches the throne when she hallucinates Drogo and their son off to the side (again, like the prophecy). She runs to him and admits that she thinks she is going mad. Drogo reminds her that she must be stronger than the madness. She must recognize it wherever she can and fight to get past it.

-Dany says a tearful goodbye to Drogo, finally letting him go, and takes the iron throne. The last shot is of her sitting tall and proud, but if you look closely you can see her hands shake a little.

one of the reasons this ending sucks so much is the implication of it

missandei dying in chains, the hound dying in fire, jamie going back to cersei, dany fulfilling a “mad targaryen” expectation

it’s like they’re saying “you can never escape your past, what you’ve been will always be what you are”

and thats a really really terrible message to be sending

Ygritte: kills one innocent dude Jon: I lover her but this doesn’t chive with my morals, I’m outta here

Melissandre: burns one girl Jon: You literally raised me from the dead but you are banished and if you return you’ll be hanged for murder

Daenerys: burns thousands over thousands men, women and children Jon: idk, Tyrion … they killed her bff and her dragon …. and I luvre her … idk if I’m morally justified to kill her … please tell me if that was the right thing to do Tyrion …. idk … I feel so conflicted about killing a mass murderer …. she was my kweeeeeeen

Jon really died at Castle Back. What came forth was some bizarre entity that D&D created.

I don’t even care if I get hate for this. Canon Jon Snow would never fall in love with DT.

As much as these writers have thrown in the term “Northern Fool” to excuse their laziness, Jon is not nor has he ever been stupid. Jon who bent the knee to Mance, and then convinced him to let him live among the Wildlings, anyone? I won’t even get into everything he does in the books. Jon is always portrayed as an intuitive person who can size people up. Upon meeting a new character, Jon has an opinion of them. In their meeting scene alone, Canon Jon would despise DT. He’s highkey judgmental of people with a sense of entitlement, and what was more entitled than her “I was born to rule the 7K and I will” speech?

Further than this seeming question of Jon’s intelligence, it’s out of Jon’s moral character to support D. Jon would never have needed Tyrion (who’s track record is shot at this point, so why is he suddenly wise again?) to convince him that killing D was the right thing. Jon does the right thing without being told to. He spared Mance’s life, even if it was treason. He brought Wildlings south of the Wall, even if it meant the end of the NW. He’s always compromised his personal safety/power in order to do the right thing, which is why Pol!Jon has always made so much sense.

Lastly, I have to ask about Ygritte. Jon loved her. Even so, he betrayed her. Even though he was in an undercover situation, Jon wouldn’t kill an innocent. He blew his cover and left his lover rather than murder an innocent.

So why the fuck is Tyrion having to coax Jon into defeating the Dangerous Tyrant? The woman we’ve just witnessed murdering thousands? Why are they treating Jon like a 16 year old with a mean girl girlfriend who he’s convinced “isn’t that bad”? Why has GOT come to resemble a teen drama in the last two seasons? It’s sloppy character work, and I hope D&D never get their hands on a character I love again.

A lot has been said about D&Ds terrible dialogue writing, but I think the greatest sign of their weakness is that they straight up don’t write the most important parts of their conversations.

Jaime arrives at Winterfell and sees Bran for the first time? Cut away and go straight to the trial! Why actually write that first remeeting or Jaime getting caught at all? Just skip to the trial.

Arya and Sansa finding out about Jon’s parentage? Cut it before the actual reveal. It’s not like this is mind blowing info we would love to see the characters react to or anything.

Sansa asks Jon if he bent the knee for love or for the north? Cut before he responds. Did he just walk out? What did he say?

Tyrion pulls up a chair to hear Bran’s story which is, presumably, what convinces him to later suggest Bran as king? Cut before the actual story, which means we don’t actually know what convinced Tyrion.

Sansa decides to tell Tyrion about Jon’s heritage which is a VERY MAJOR MOMENT for EVERYONE in the story? Cut before she actually reveals it.

Jon kills Daenerys and assumedly some major shit happens? Cut before anyone discovers it and just skip to later so that we don’t have to deal with that scene.

And do you know why they do it? Its so they can avoid the most difficult bits to write and instead let YOU imagine the conversation. It forces the audience to fill in the gaps and do most of the work while they get to just fuck off to the next scene. And this problem shows in their writing on a larger scale because they are allergic to emotional pay off in any fashion, which is why so many character arcs feel weak and so many plot threads are left hanging because they just do not feel the need to tie things up. They’d rather everyone else do the work for them and then praise them for their genius.
