This is BlastYoBoots (he/they), also "byb", "boots" or bladekindEyewear. I apparently still run this semi-personal Homestuck Theorizing & Romspec blog, plus the (also hiatusing/defunct) Homestuck Joke Blog. If you're not caught up with Homestuck or Homestuck^2 Beyond Canon, please don't browse around my blog, because spoilers everywhere.
(No, seriously, click that link if you want to quickly find any major theory or post I've written, including class and aspect charts, or want to know which tags to search. Do it now.)

Feel free to contact me at any time! If I'm online and visible, I am open to random pesterings.
ASKBOX NOTES: First, if you have a long post/idea, instead of submitting it, post it on your own blog and send a link (with periods and colons replaced with asterisks) into my ask. Second: Disagreement is more than welcome in my inbox! However, if it's vitriolic, you will not get a response unless you are not anonymous. (I am absolutely non-retaliatory; this just gives me a chance to discuss it privately with you before airing any sanitized conclusions on this blog! My followers don't deserve to see more than academic contention.)

10-2025 artist/writer commentary

The Patreon commentary from the Artists and Writers of Beyond Canon for the start of Act 2 is here! As per usual, I’m going to try and extract anything I think is particularly plot-relevant for us to know under the cut, and leave the full enjoyment of said commentary for those who subscribe to Homestuck's Patreon.

I just watched the newly released Homestuck animated pilot and think it was pretty fun, well-translated to the new medium and gorgeously rendered! Hopefully a good way to tempt people into experiencing the series for the first time now that the main site is (steadily) being rebuilt, though downloading the Unofficial Homestuck Collection from github and its asset pack is still viable and probably a more complete way to reexperience the comic/music/side-stuff etc and fandom's progression for those lucky enough to have Homestucky friends to guide 'em through the setup process. Excellent performances all around, even the few I'd been privately skeptical about from the teaser; on-point sound design, catchy and fitting music... and the breakneck pace DOES make it difficult to keep up with if you don't already know what's going on from the source material, but I think that just leaves more to discover for those who leap off from this to delve into the Webcomic for the first time. Brief spoilers for the animation under the cut as I discuss it for another paragraph. Really really good marks overall!!!

I'm not in the mood to do a full breakdown or record a reaction to the Homestuck pilot tomorrow by the way, I'll probably just enjoy it on my own terms and give my thoughts here after the fact on what I enjoyed/didn't about it. (Mostly expecting to find it generally enjoyable with no real objections, if I had to predict, except for the probable lack of the Sburban Jungle theme.)

Anonymous asked:

The sugar cube thing is probably in reference to the meat/candy plot vs. fluff concept? Of course if Dirk and Rose want to keep their relevance and make the Deltritus session so crucial they'd discourage candy. It's interesting that to Dirk's species concentrated sugar is mirth-inducing but illegal, whereas to Rose's species it's outright poison.

Your metaphor's sound, but I'm not entirely sure if you have a point there or not-- TC certainly gets his hands on illegal stuff, sure, but the phrasing on the sugar cube page leaves it ambiguous whether it's only illegal in the Nymph world as "contraband" smuggled from the surface, or if sugar is somehow also illegal topside despite that not making... too much sense outside the metaphor.

I'm sure we'll have it cleared up sooner or later when we get to spy on a Satyr and see for sure what their society considers illicit, because a society where even Dirk's favorite Orange Soda would be seen as too stimulating for an upstanding Satyr citizen seems a little weird to me until we get positive proof. Could be a compromise he had to make to get his desired Satyr biology, I won't discount the possibility.

STOP UPDATING SO FAST I CAN'T HANDLE THIS AAAAAAAAA

FUCK

It's okay I'm happy I'm gonna blog it, more fanbox commands probably, let's go

Here's the top of the general chatlog from the decomposed gif now that I've belatedly realized the tinyurl probably led somewhere:

<DB:> is there a walkthrough posted yet? idk wth is going on ToT [CC:]> oki https://tinyurl.com/shurbwlkthrululz <GH:> DO NOT CLICK ON THAT desperateBystander was subsumed <DB> <IT:> fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu[...] <GH:> \@darkgeniuses please ban CC already <GH:> he's bringing a harsh radioactive vibe to this server auguryAside [AA] has banished greasedHogman <GH> <IT:> he wasn't wrong!!!! auguryAside [AA] has banished idleTriffler <IT>

I dunno if that creepy clip cloisteredConnosewer linked us is some sort of cognitohazard in-canon or what, but desperateBystander being "subsumed" by it seems ominous. AA doesn't seem to want to entertain any complaints by the plebs about their in-group, or maybe is just generally predisposed to defend CC.

Whoops, I didn’t realize CC’s tinyurl link in that gif was probably an ACTUAL tinyurl link that leads somewhere. When I’m awake on my computer to decompose the gif again (instead of groggily checking my phone temporarily awake at 4am) I’ll check it out, unless one of y’all gets to it first and links me or puts it in the liveblog post’s replies. EDIT: TY for the link, though I managed to manually write out the whole rest of the top of the log here.

09-2025 artist/writer commentary

September 1st has brought us new Artist and Writer commentary on Patreon, presumably for the "INTERMISSION" just before Beyond Canon Act 2! I'm going to try and extract anything I think is particularly plot-relevant for us to know under the cut, and I'm going to make it quick if I can because I'm tired AF today.

HS^2 bloggin’ mainline 2025-08-16

Since last time I liveblogged, we learned a cool detail about our new squiddle nymph's name and saw the Homestuck Animated Pilot Trailer (it was cool!). Now we're back to Ly'lac and trying to identify which specific bit of neglect will cause her to get exploded out the side wall, which is surprisingly hard to narrow down. Continuing the liveblog under the cut...
