my favourite thing is when enemies to lovers are getting heated…and their faces end up really close… and they’re making solid eye contact…and then one of them is just like… *gaze drops to lips*

im sorry but writing enemies to lovers on ao3 is so fucking funny. one of them will go a whole paragraph saying how much they hate, absolutely despise, have genuine burning contempt for the other and we’re all here knowing damn well that enemies to lovers tag is just sat there. like we already know what’s coming bro you’re just embarrassing yourself

the appeal of enemies to lovers though is less “oh will they ever get together?” and more “at what exact point does he go from wanting to kill the bitch to the oh in italics?”

When Wei Ying’s arm slumped down again, Lan Wangji untied the waistband of his robe, setting it beside the ribbons and headpiece Wei Ying had removed from his hair. His gaze lingered over them for several moments.
The time from Wei Ying finding him until he fell asleep was distorted by ripples in his mind. Had he not been so exhausted, so in pain, would he have allowed Wei Ying to take such liberties? The forehead ribbon especially, now that he knew the significance of it after so many years of ignorance?
He closed his eyes in a grimace. Yes. He would have allowed it. In fact, he ached to experience it again. He had dreamt of seeing Wei Ying again countless times over the months he was in Gusu, but he had not imagined such a simple gesture from him, had not considered the great comfort and intimacy it could bring, or just how desperately he craved such a thing.
But rather than linger on thoughts of Wei Ying’s fingers in his hair, or the fact Wei Ying had touched his forehead ribbon, he opened his robe and moved closer to Wei Ying. With great care not to jostle him, he lay down on his side next to him, flush against his body. He laid one open half of his robe over Wei Ying’s body to give him what warmth he could and then, with some hesitation, lay his upper body partially over Wei Ying’s side.
In his sleep, Wei Ying made another soft sound, shifted a little, but did not wake from the sudden weight on him.
Lan Wangji could barely breathe to be so close to him, to the warmth radiating from his core. Wei Ying’s body was a hot line against his own, and he pressed closer to it to bask in his warmth.
With such liberties already taken, it was easy to rest his head on Wei Ying’s chest. He held his breath as he closed his eyes and listened. The steady beating of Wei Ying’s heart made his own flutter and quicken. He had never been so close to another. Not since he was a child in his mother’s embrace.
“Forgive me,” he whispered, before exhaling and slowly relaxing against Wei Ying.

…do I need to explain myself at this point? @fleetofshippyships whips out a new chapter of Tears of Pearl, her Merman Lan Wangji AU that now has a fancy title, and as the feels hit me I can’t do much else but sit down and draw.

Look at them, Lan Wangji being all cuddly while in pain, and Wei Wuxian, sleeping right through it, like the absolute dormouse that he is. He’s gonna be so pissed should he ever find out.

Chapter 4 is already up, so I’m behind for once, lol. If you’re into merfolk, this is the fic for you. Go and read it!

Benjamin Sullivan, the honorable and somewhat mysterious court magician was married last Saturday to Lettie Hatter, formerly of Market Chipping. The other court magician was also there, presumably as a guest of the matron of honor, Sophie Pendragon nee Hatter, the bride's sister. They seemed wrapped up in some sort of disagreement for most of the ceremony though.

A unique agony as a shijie lover is loving her precisely for the reasons people think she's lame and keep trying to "fix". I love that she's a bad cultivator with a weak golden core and that she's in poor health. I love that she's conflict averse and so not always a great mediator because she prefers to keep the peace and shut down conflict. Madam Yu yells at her every day to stop embarrassing herself by lowering herself to a servant's level, and every day Yanli is like "Yes mom" and then turns around and keeps doing what she likes anyways. She is not naturally suited to sect leadering and while she's extremely dutiful and would give it her all I think she'd enjoy it as much as her father does(which is to say, not at all). I love that she's totally unhinged about her brothers and that she was so scarred from the last time her family died when she wasn't there to see it that she recklessly throws herself onto a battlefield just so that she can at least be present this time. It's not even the first time, she's determined to help out with the war effort despite having zero fighting abilities and literally no one expecting her to do that. I love that she's uncomfortable with anger and struggles to stand up for herself. Xuanli are cute and I love that she seemingly banged her man before the wedding. Most of all I love that she died hating Wei Wuxian while still loving him enough to put herself between him and a sword. My beloved!!

preserving op's tags because that last one is just. it's so correct.
