Hope feels herself hit the cold cement. It hurts, but at least she’s alive. Gathering the strength to stand, she does so and surveys everything around her. It looks like she’s in an alleyway somewhere. Definitely not anywhere she recognizes. She dusts herself off and begins to walk, trying to find someone or someplace recognizable. However, she doesn’t get very far before she notices someone following her. The person catches her staring and starts walking faster. Hope quickens her pace in an effort to get away. Soon enough, she reaches a small building. Its still got its lights on, so she figures that it must be open. She knocks on the door, taking a quick look at the sign. “Sinclair floral” huh. She wonders where she heard that name before. A woman opens the door. Her hair is brown and slightly wavey, her eyes are brown, and her nametag reads “Diana”. She spots Hopes pursuer and immediately allows the girl inside with an “oh, you’re finally here! I’ve been expecting you!” And a smile. The person turns back and leaves. As soon as Hope sets foot in the store, she realizes just how familiar it looks. Diana introduces herself and makes sure she’s okay. Then he shows up. Chris walks down into the shop, looking as confuswd and worried as Diana. Before he can open his mouth to say anything, hope lunges forward and hugs him as tight as she can. He’s tense at first, but hesitantly hugs back. “Do I know you?” A lot of time has passed since then. Around a two years. Chris has no clue who hope is. He can’t remember anything from before they all got to the 60’s. He landed in 61, and after discovering just how homophobic the 60’s were married a woman named Diana, a lesbian who needed a cover just as much as he did. Together, they’ve all but adopted Hope. According to anyone who asks, she’s their neice who’s staying with them for a while.

Everyone is hanging out in the store today. Hope is helping Chris tend to the plants and Diana is handling the register. The radio theyve got on the counter plays soft music, and Chris can’t help but hum along happily. The store isn’t open yet, but someone still knocks on the door. Chris is quick to answer it. “Hey! We’re not open yet. But feel free to swing by when we are.” He smiles at the stranger.

Ben was anxious to say the least. Klaus was god knows where, he was somehow alive and he just found out that he was stuck in the 1960s. He had been walking around for about 5 hours before coming across a small, friendly looking store. He had apprehensivly knocked on the door before hearing a voice he never thought he’d hear again.

“Chris? Is that you?” he asked, internally debating whether or not it was his brain grasping at the last straws of familiarity before losing hope.

Chris is confused to say the least. “Thats my name, yes. Are you alright?” He doesn’t recognize the person standing there. Something in the back of his brain is screaming, though. All sorts of alarms going off. Something isn’t right here, but he cant exactly figure out what.

He smiled “it’s me, ben.” His voice was cheerful yet hid a layer of exhaustion and relief.

His confusion only doubles. “I’m sorry, I’m afraid I don’t recognize you…” he pauses, getting lost in his own thoughts for a moment. “I lost my memory back in 61. Took a nasty fall and landed myself unconscious and without most of my memories.” Another pause. He isn’t quite sure how to handle this situation. So he acts on instinct. “Do you want to come and sit down? You sound tired. I can get you some coffee, if you’d like.”

Ben sighed, of course life wouldn’t make it that simple for him. “Its… it’s okay. I need to be… I must have mistaken you for… someone else” he stammered, his breath catching in his throat.

“Hey, its alright.” He shrugs, trying to reassure the stranger. “You seem like a nice person. Swing by any time you’d like. I’m not sure how we could help, but don’t be afraid to reach out.” He smiles.

He chuckled. Despite chris not remembering him, he was still treated with a familiar sense of kindness “I’ll keep that in mind.”

“Alrighty then. You have a nice day now, Ben. Carpe diem or whatever it is that they say.” He gives a short laugh.

“Yeah…” ben waved and walked away, stuffing his hands in his pockets, wondering where he should go now.

Chris gives a wave before turning back inside. Hope gives him a curious look, but chris brushes it aside without saying anything. They can talk later. Right now they’ve got around five minutes till the store opens and around ¾ of the plants still need watered.

Ben walked away. The encounter with Chris leaving a strange feeling in his body. Maybe there was a way he could get him to remember. Maybe there was a way he could find his family.

Chris catches himself looking out the window as ben leaves. Something just felt...familiar about him. Comforting. Like someone he knew in a past life. He sighs and shrugs it off, getting back to what he was doing.

Au where Ben's alive during season 2 ig.

Ben sat in a quiet cafe in the middle of some place in Texas muttering to himself. He had been stranded in the 60s for about 5 months and he was clearly uncomfortable. Despite the negatives of the scenario, there were some positives.

He had opened up a book store and was settling down for the first time ever. Sure, he missed his siblings but he finally had a chance at a normal life without any interruptions... or so he thought.

The door to the cafe opened, drawing his attention away from his tea and towards a very familiar face.

Chris had entered the book store searching for, well, a book. The nature of said book is something he hasn't determined yet. But he'll get there eventually. He had spotted the store on his way home, and decided a quick stop wouldn't hurt. He offers ben a quick smile, not recognizing him as he walks to a random shelf.

Ben gave a small wave, relieved to see someone he knew or at least recognized. He had started to worry that he was the only person stuck in the past.

He calmly cleared his throat "do you need any help finding anything? My organisation skills suck"

Chris chuckles, nodding. "Some help would be appreciated. Thank you." He smiles. "I'm not quite sure what I'm looking for, though. Any recommendations? You seem like the person who knows more than a few good reads."

Ben walked out from behind the counter and towards the shelf. "It honestly depends on the type of books you like to read. I'm pretty sure I've books on everything from flower meanings to human rights. Just tell me what you're interested in and I'll grab a book for you" he smiled, awkwardly adjusting his hood.

“Any science fiction? Or really any fiction. Preferably with a happy ending.” He decides, reading the titles of the books near him to see if any sound interesting.

"A happy ending..." ben smiled slightly, looking across the many rows of books before pulling out a hardback book that looked like it hadn't been touched in a long time. "this isn't science fiction but it does have a happy ending."

"Thatll work just fine, thanks." He reads the front and back covers, flipping between the pages. "I just can't stand stories with sad endings. They just ruin the escapism of it all. Why read a tragedy when you're living one?" He laughs shortly, eyes turning sad. "What do I owe you?"

"Its..." he trailed off before smiling "you can have it for free, it's not like anyone else was going to pick it out. Trust me, people hardly come in here anyway."

"Oh! Thanks!" He smiles at ben. "Thats a shame. This place is nice. I'll have to stop by again sometime." He looks around the building for a little, then realizes something and looks back at ben. "My name is Chris, by the way. Sorry I didn't mention it earlier."

"I didn't exactly introduce myself to you either. I'm Ben, ben Hargreeves if you want to be specific I guess. Its... it's nice to meet you" he awkwardly coughed, kinda trailing off near the end of his sentence.

"Nice to meet you as well." He looks out, trying to estimate the time based on how dark it is outside. "I should probably be on my way. It was nice meeting you. I'll um," he raises the book. "Let you know how it goes." He smiles before leaving.

-timeskip ig-

Ben was stood behind the counter, reading a newspaper. About two days had passed since his encounter with chris and he was already missing him.

Chris, somehow able to sense that he's being missed, or rather, he'd just finished the book ben had recommended and needed someone to gush to about it, enters the store. A dorky smile etched across his face as he happily walks to the counter, book in hand. "Ben! I just finished the book! It was, well, spectacular!"

“I’m sorry, I’m afraid I don’t recognize you...” he pauses, getting lost in his own thoughts for a moment.

“Anger is an interesting emotion. I dont exactly understand how you’re able to be ‘good’ at it, but I think I understand the point you’re trying to make. And nearly everyone can experience a wide range of emotions. You just need to find the things that cause them. I think that’s what it means to be good at emotional stuff. You just understand why it happens and what to do about it.” Chris shrugs. “But that’s just my two cents on it. Anyways, you want a cup of coffee?“

Avatar

“I don’t know. I’ve never had coffee. What’s it like?”

“On it’s own it tastes kind of gross. But some people like it. I like to put cream and sugar in it, though. It’s kinda bitter without it.”

“…I’d like to try it.”

“ok. I can probably make some. Do you want anything in it?”

“Whatever you usually put in it, I guess.”

He gives Hordak a thumbs-up before walking off to make a cup of coffee. “On it. I was meaning to get myself a some as well. I’ve got some spells to study, and I don’t wanna sleep until I get that done.”

“Thanks.”

“No problem.” He starts the coffee. “So what’ve you been up to?”

“Oh, you know. The usual. Oh! But I met this girl. Her name is Entrapta, and she’s really into robotics, like me.”

“That’s great! I’m glad to hear it!” He smiles.

“But… I don’t know if she likes me back… God, I sound like a teenage girl.” He laughed.

He chuckles. “She might. Who knows.” He stops. “And before you ask, any sort of magic I could do about that is illegal.”

“I wasn’t going to ask.” He laughed. “There are some serious consent issues with the whole ‘love spell’ thing, I find it creepy.”

"Yep, that's why it's illegal." He chuckles. "Its creepy as hell. Even Iif it was legal I would avoid it like the plague."
