This is the Lit Aube et Crépuscule (Dawn and Twilight bed) by Emile Gallé. It was made in 1904 and is at the Musée de l'Ecole de Nancy. The materials include Rosewood, ebony, mother of pearl and glass. The bed symbolizes dusk, dawn and life. Dusk is a butterfly at the headboard with a landscape of night. Dawn is a butterfly at the foot of the bed, illustrating the renewal of the day. The crystal part of Dawn is said to represent life as a “cosmogenic egg”. For more info see the museum’s website here.

GUMROAD IS BANNING NSFW CONTENT IN THE NEXT 24 HOURS

I haven't seen anyone talk about this yet, so I might as well.

They've updated their content policy to comply with payment processor Stripe and Paypal's censorhip. They gave 24 hours. On March 16th 2024, Gumroad TOS will no longer allows sales of any written or drawn nsfw content.

This is going to hurt for so many creators. Giving that little time leaves people's source of income wildly unstable, especially with such a huge overhaul of what content is allowed.

I hate this. I hate what censorship is turning the internet into. I hate that nsfw content creators keeo getting pushed to the fringes, that they need to digitally migrate so often, because nowhere can be trusted to allow their art for long.

I don't know what to do next, there isn't some sort of "here's what you can do to help!" People just deserve to know.

this timeline of ours is kind of crazy uh?

it goes like this:

  • Someone wants a nice bat soup in central China.
  • Covid happens, lockdowns everywhere.
  • Internet traffic is at a continuous peak.
  • A lot of people starts writing blogs, online business.
  • Online platforms usage gets a massive peak on incoming new users.
  • Internet companies revenue, Automattic’s in particular, goes to the moon during 2020 and 2021, profits, money raining from the sky.
  • Tech CEO and CFO are not that smart, get convinced this is ‘the new normal’ and make plans for 2023 and beyond based on the revenue they are seeing in 2020/21: They hire A LOT of people, acquire companies, take loans based on the results of those years.
  • The world decides that we are bored and every country start to pretend Covid is over (ha!). People go back to their normal lives.
  • Internet traffic goes back to normal, including on WordPress.com.
  • Uh oh.
  • Internet companies start falling behind the projections their genius leaders have done based on the 2020 traffic peak. They are still making a lot of money, but the banks and investors who have given them money start to complain they are not getting the results they had promised them.
  • Lay-offs, enshittification, etc. Internet companies are both getting record profits and failing, at the same time, because their leaders are both greedy and stupid. They start relying on scummy methods to extract every single cent they can from their users, even if they are fucking their long-term viability.
  • Automattic signs a deal with OpenAi and Midjourney to sell them user data.

Same thing happened to video game companies and why we’re seeing such aggressive monetization and mass layoffs in 2023/24.

Companies are encouraged to only think “short term” because they are often beholden to shareholders that want short term gains, not long term success, so considering every new boost “the new norm” is intentional to boost stock values. You have to show confidence to pull the wool over the eyes of investors, and when it pops… Well, if you’re a CEO or smart shareholder, you already took the bag and dipped.

About the short-term gains … yeah, I’ve been thinking about this shit quite a lot, and depending on the day, I tend to go more for “they are stupid” or “they are greedy and evil”.

But the reality is probably somewhere in between: They are stupid, and greedy, and evil.

All 36 hospitals in Gaza have been destroyed by Israel. ALL 36. DESTROYED.

And Israel has the nerve to claim it doesn't bomb hospitals and is "careful not to target civilians".

Fuck you.

I will never forgive and I will never forget how the world allowed this to happen. If you are silent about this, you are complicit. Keep talking about Gaza!

Surprise! I’ve been Giangio this whole time! Mwahaha!

My friend and I made this coat ourselves! Have some unceremonious hotel pics cause all my friends were scattered to the wind during con that day. So alas, no extra hands.

Very fun that a couple people recognized me. I gave them wishstones! (Some people complimented the Jiminy Cricket plushie I had in my pocket even if they didn’t know who I was, it was very cute haha)

Also thank u devs for making Gio’s face cause now I, a lady with pointy features, can feel like my face is finally fitting for a character lol.

This is one of those posts where I feel like I'm doing others and myself a disservice by not sharing. I wish someone had shown me this a long time ago.

Maybe I'd be having to do less work to break out of this shell, now.

When my mum passed suddenly 10 years ago, the event itself was shocking but our family knew something like this might happen. She was raised to think she had to make herself small for others. In our immediate family, we tried to tell her it didn't have to be that way and we cared for her as best we could when she needed us, but lessons that are etched into your brain while you're young are hard to escape. After she passed, I realized I was doing the same. It was a long time ago, but I'm still stuck in a situation where I'm made to feel small. But her passing was the turning point of realizing I had to preserve myself. It was what pushed me to try to step out of someone else's shadow and be me even if I got punished for it. One day, I'll be able to escape it. Never sacrifice your whole self for others. It's not worth it.

I haven't personally verified this as I'm not at a computer, but multiple people in multiple places are saying the same thing. This is fucking insane. First the endless war on UBlock, then the Chromium changes to shut out some blocker functionalities entirely next year, now this?

Something is deeply rotten in recent Google/YouTube policy. I can't imagine that this is legal - how is this not anticompetitive? Google needs to get mega fucked in the press and the courts sooner rather than later.

And I need to switch to Firefox as soon as I get home.
