I’m at Chapter 37 of Go Tell The Bees That I Am Gone and I am officially struggling. Because while there has been some sweet content (Germain, anyone?)... it’s just not keeping my attention.

Can anyone tell me - is it worth continuing? Should I just cherry pick? What chapter do Fergus and/or Marsali come into it?

The goal of this list is to be an in-progress, flexible resource for Outlander fics that focus on Queer stories. Please use it, share it, discover new stories with it; in short, have fun with it!

I tried to be as comprehensive as possible, and to include every Queer-centered fic I could find. However, I am very human, so I’m sure there’s fics that I forgot about or that slipped through the cracks of my searches. If, after looking at the list, you notice that a fic that matches the category is not there, please fill out the form that is linked at the top of the masterlist. Please do fill out the form instead of replying to this post or dm-ing me; I’ll be able to keep track of form submissions much better than I can keep track of dms.

An enormous thank you to all the wonderful authors represented on this list. The Queer authors and the allies alike, who took a bold step and put out something beautiful into the world. You are so so deeply appreciated.

Happy Pride!! ❤🧡💛💚💙💜🤎🖤

Up Ye Get, Lass by @thetranquilteal

Murtagh's heart beat once, twice, thrice and he moved, light footed, across the flattened earth to where Claire rested, eyes closed but not yet asleep.
In one fluid motion he clamped one hand over her mouth, the other around her bound wrist.
"Hush!" he warned and then, on a whim that he would deny until his dying days, whispered, "It's no' the boogie-woogie bugle boy."
Claire's eyes popped open, her mouth beneath his palm slack with shock. Trusting that she wouldn't scream, he released his hold on her and held out his hand in offering as he scanned around them.
“Trobhad,” he whispered and then again a little louder when she didn’t move. "Come on!"

A canon-divergent one-shot where Murtagh has not only survived the Battle of Culloden and the Battle of Alamance but steals Claire away from the men who kidnapped her in 5x12 Never My Love before the worst can happen (Fix-It Fic).

Available now on AO3

A/N: Years ago, when I found out that Murtagh was going to survive Culloden in the made-for-TV version, this is what I wanted to happen. What I think should have happened, thank you very much.

The Gift by @thetranquilteal

"Christmas," Jamie echoed, mostly to himself, nodding his head slowly before looking back down at the photograph of his wife and newborn child. “I'll be home for Christmas.”
When Murtagh put a hand on his shoulder and stood, he dipped his head in acknowledgement but continued looking a moment longer, before tucking it back into his chest pocket and rising himself. He rolled his shoulders and stretched his neck - a long practised method used to replace the battered armour he had worn for far, far too long but was destined to wear a little while longer yet.
He would be home for Christmas but until that day came, he reminded himself, he had a job to do. And a promise to keep.
- OR -
Jamie has spent almost every night of his deployment yearning to be with his wife and newborn child. When he is given the opportunity to be home for Brianna's first Christmas, however, he unexpectedly finds himself torn between the past, present and future. Modern Day AU.

Part II now available on AO3

The long cold road is worth travelling when there’s someone (or two) waiting for you at the end.

The Vintage Calendar by @thetranquilteal

Claire looked down at the vintage advent calendar, the intrinsic details even more breath-taking at close range. While she could concede that it was an incredible piece and would look rather wonderful placed on the dresser in the living space at Mrs Baird’s B&B...

Innocent Revelations by @fergusandmarsali

“Will a man in a red coat cut off my hand if I’m bad? Really bad?”
“No,” Jamie answered, his voice hard despite his attempt to control himself. “Never.
Germain did look up, then, a frown marring his round face. “How can you know for sure?”
“Weel,” Jamie took a deep breath and rubbed the pad of his thumb across his bottom lip as he thought of what he wanted to say. What he should say. “I was there-”
“You were there?”
“Aye,” Jamie nodded slowly as the image of young Fergus lying on the hard Scottish ground, blood staining the dirt beneath his wrist, clouded his vision. The same feeling that had gripped his throat then, gripped him now, somehow even tighter than before. “I was there.”

Biding Time by @fergusandmarsali

“Uncle Jamie… He’ll come fer us. Won’t he?”
Young Ian’s wide eyes, while glassy with fear, were bright with hope, still innocent and pure. Untarnished. Fergus felt something fierce rush through him… something like responsibility and protectiveness.
“Oui,” Fergus promised just as fiercely. “I have seen him do more for less.”
And to himself he promised to get Young Ian out of here alive. Whatever the cost.

Wonderful by @thetranquilteal

“Who the hell has a wedding in December?” Claire grumbled as she pulled her winter coat on over her dress. It was a brand new, custom made slim fitting sleeveless gown made of red lace that covered her from neck to floor and easily the most expensive piece of clothing she had ever owned but be damned if she was going to wear anything less than stellar to her ex-boyfriend Frank’s wedding. “And who the hell agrees to attending one with a blind date?”

A modern day au inspired by [almost] every Hallmark Christmas movie ever made.

Chapter 5: Genuine [Now Available on AO3]

“Aye, but that doesna mean we must cancel all our plans now, Sassenach.”

Starting Young by @fergusandmarsali

“What’s the matter, Grandpère?” Germain asked, his eyes bright with excitement. “Are you in need of healing?” Without waiting for an answer he turned to Claire and asked, “What do we need? I will fetch it.”
“What’s this, then?”
Germain raised himself to full height - which wasn’t quite as impressive as he no doubt thought - and announced proudly, “I am Grandmère’s app-ren-tice.”
“Oh?” Jamie’s eyes rose to look at Claire. “Starting them young, Sassenach?”
- OR -
When Marsali is too ill to assist Claire in the surgery, Germain decides to become Grandmère’s newest apprentice and, while neither hurt nor ill, Grandpère is the very first patient he tends to. A fluffy one-shot set during early Season 5.

The Vintage Calendar [AO3] by @thetranquilteal

With the ending of her contract with the UK Armed Forces, all Claire Beauchamp wants for Christmas is to enjoy a quiet holiday in Scotland with her long-term boyfriend Frank Randall. While visiting with close friends, however, Claire is gifted with a vintage advent calendar that sets her life on a path she never expected... one that leads to Northern Badgers star, James Fraser.
Modern Day AU loosely based on the Netflix Christmas movie ‘The Holiday Calendar’. NOW COMPLETE!

Epilogue (Twelve Months Later)

Claire sat up in bed slowly, careful not to wake Jamie who was sleeping beside her. It was still dark outside and she tilted her head to the side as she strained to hear the noise that she thought woke her up in the first place.

A suspicious tinkle hit her ears and she slipped on her house shoes before retrieving her dressing gown and following the sound into the living room. She spotted Fergus’s mop of hair in the soft light emanating from the lamp they left on all night and smiled at how young he looked crouched beneath the Christmas tree, its coloured lights illuminating the lines on his flannelette pyjamas.

“What are you doing up so early?” she asked softly and Fergus turned around, a horrified look on his face. It was quickly replaced with a sweet smile as he stood up and Claire’s eyes narrowed slightly in suspicion.

Day 24: Mistletoe

Claire swung out of bed and slipped on her house shoes with the kind of enthusiasm that reminded her of waking on Christmas morning as a young child, excited to see what Santa Claus might have left beneath the Christmas tree in the dark of night. This time though, it was the vintage calendar she went to, not even pausing to put the kettle on.

Door 24 was cracked open and she reached out to pull it all the way. And she laughed. An honest sound that started deep within her belly and resulted in a sound that only made her laugh even more.

Mistletoe.

Of course. She placed a hand on her chest and tilted her head back, her eyes on the ceiling. Mistletoe. She rubbed her hand over her face and picked up the figurine to have a closer look. Freaking mistletoe.

With one last chuckle she added the last figurine to the collection on the mantle and stepped back. With all twenty four little characters lined up, it really was a sight to behold.
