Total Eclipse of the Heart Sun
There are few times in life that you can say something like "that was the most incredible thing I have ever seen in my life" without it being hyperbolic. That being said:
That was the most incredible thing I have ever seen in my life.
I live right between Dallas and Ft. Worth, so I was in the direct line of totality in today's solar eclipse. For the last week it had been up in the air as to whether or not we would be able to see it due to cloud cover. It had been cloudy all day. But then, about ten minutes before totality... the clouds parted and it was clear in that one spot for just long enough to allow visibility.
I just. I have no words. It was the most surreal experience I've ever had.
We were sitting in our back yard to watch, and when totality hit the darkness was eerie. Our outside flood lights operate on photocells to come on at dusk, and they turned on.
This was 1:40pm CST.
We were simply awestruck. I didn't bother wasting time taking pictures beyond just that one snap to capture what it looked like around me, not only because I wanted to just watch totality with my own eyes, but because I also knew that my photographer sister (x) was going to take far better photos with her DSLR and telephoto lense than I ever could with my dinky little phone camera.
I wasn't wrong.
Just... look at that shit. Look at it. Especially the third one with the freaking birds.
It happened almost three hours ago and I'm still awestruck.
Wow.
Just wow.
(And I'm not sorry for the title pun.)
