A safe space

Close Your Eyes And Imagine This

Please take a minute and read this, if you have been in need of a safe space, i hope it will help you.

Once you’ve read this close your eyes and imagine this:

You are on a film set, outside, there is silver trailers standing around, but you only want to go to one specific one. It must be the biggest one out of all the trailers standing around, it magically attracts you.

You approach the door of the trailer and hesitate before knocking, not exactly sure what to expect. A few heavy footsteps could be heard before the door swings open and a large man is standing in front of you.

“Oh, darling, I have been awaiting you.” Freddie opens his arms and pulls you in for a tight hug, almost lifting you off your feet and squeezing all the air out of you. “Why won’t you come inside and we chit chat for a little.” He lets go of you and climbs back to the inside of the trailer, expecting you to follow him and so you do.

Freddie is wearing that exact one look you have been dreaming about several times before, his hair matching the look. The inside of the trailer looks clean, cleaner than you would have expected and it is warm, it is a place to feel welcome and comfortable in right away.

There’s just about enough space for a bed in the corner, a booth for two people to dine in, a sink with a few cabinets above and a mirror is hanging on the wall. It is just enough for one person.

Freddie stands next to the booth, looking at you expectantly. He slowly lifts his hands in a questioning motion as if to say ‘Is there anything I need to know?’. You really don’t know what to say. All this time you have been thinking about what to say to this exact man if he was ever to stand in front of you and now, now that he does, no words come out of your mouth.

The reason isn’t because you are starstruck. As soon as you looked into his deep brown eyes you felt comfort, safety and reassurance throughout your entire body, as if Freddie was the rock you could hold on to in your own personal storm. The warmth filled your body and all your fear, your stress and your sadness were washed away.

“What brings you here today?” His voice is gentle. The softest breeze couldn’t tickle your ears any gentler than the sound of Freddies voice, his own personal song to you. He reaches out his hand, softly taking yours into his own and sitting on the soft material of the mattress that was his bed with you next to him.

Memories from your day flood your mind. Demons from the past week, month, year, try to creep up your chest, eating away from your inside. Nice experiences from the past pop up in your head, things you cannot wait to share with him. And as you look up at Freddie, you know you can share all these things.

Your memories, demons and nice experiences, you tell him everything and you just know, you feel that Freddie is listening to you. With each word said, a little bit of the weight you have been carrying around with you gets lifted off of your shoulders, your chest doesn’t feel as tight anymore and relief can finally wash over you. With each word you, more and more, know that Freddie is listening and he will remember, he will do his best to free you from the burden that your mind has been wandering around over and over.

“I am always here if you are in need of a break.” He softly speaks, a smile plastered on his face and you notice he won’t even try to cover his teeth, it makes you proud. “I am so proud of you for sharing all of this with me, dear, I know it isn’t easy.” His hand lingers on your upper arm for a few seconds before he slides it down your arm and grabs your hand again. He leans forward and presses a soft kiss to your forehead, your eyes close as you enjoy the moment before he leans back again.

For a few seconds the two of you sit in a comfortable silence. It is not awkward, there are so many things in your head you want to ask him and he notices.

“Ask me those questions, darling.” A slight smirk spreads across Freddies face and so you babble on about all the questions you have wanted to ask him all this time. He tells you all of his experiences from his perspective, even though you know what happened by heart already. Each word captures you more and more.

In this place you know you are welcome. You know that you are wanted, needed and loved. You have someone who listens to you, who would never laugh at you, hurt you or not take you serious. This is your safe space. You can be who you want to be, you don’t have to, but if it makes you confident and happy then be the best version of yourself. Anxiety, depression, loneliness and bullies do not exist here, it is just you and Freddie in the world. In this safe space you can sing your hearts out with the man, watch him perform, dance and cuddle up. As far as your imagination reaches, this is the place to live your dreams.

And just like that you can come back every day, every night, before you sleep, when reality is just unbearable. Let your mind wander.

And little do you know that Roger, Brian and John are just around the corner in the other silver trailers, if you need them.

I wanna bring this back for everyone who needs it today!
