honest to god can't stop thinking about this song about jeff bezos by philip labes (link takes you to his spotify). it's such a good example of politically driven folk music.
Eid Mubarak everyone! May Allah grant all our duas. β‘
[ ID: edited version of the Bugs Bunny "pleasant evening" meme that reads: I wish all Muslims a very Eid Mubarak.

So, this hasn't crossed my dash yet. (Not blaming anyone, there is soooo much going on in the world and I'd also missed it in the noise).
There is currently a strike at Frito-Lay. in Topeka. These workers are striking because:
They were being forced to work 84 hour weeks. The company's best offer so far is a 60 hour cap. This is shit we fought for a century ago, people.
Their generous offer also includes a whole 4 percent wage increase...over the next 2 years. I'm not sure what COL is in Topeka, but... Well, it's better than the entire 77 cents they've apparently gotten in the last decade.
There's also a report that a worker literally collapsed and dropped dead on the line and the foreman's response was to make them move the body out of the way and put in a replacement. (However, this is unconfirmed and, of course, the company denies it).
There have been multiple OSHA violations at this plant over the last few years, including a forklift accident that's under investigation.
They've now been striking since July 5 but, of course, it only hit the national media yesterday.
So, why am I signal boosting this?
Because Frito-Lay is refusing to budge. They are attempting to make the excuse that union leadership agreed to the 60 hour work week and crappy pay cut...when union leadership only agreed to put it to a vote.
And this means that we need to put the thumbscrews on them. Remember, this is about 19th century style working conditions.
So, I'm calling on my followers to boycott Frito Lay's until the strike is involved.
Frito-Lay owns:
Lay's
Doritos (Sorry. I really am. I KNOW there's no good alternative to Doritos, although Zapp's are good if you can find them).
Fritos
Tostitos
Cheetos
Ruffles
Sun Chips
Baken-ets
Chester's
Cracker Jack
Islen plantain chips
Funyuns
Grandma's (the cookies)
Matador Meat Snacks
Maui style potato chips
Miss Vickie's
Munchies
Munchos
Rolled Gold
Sabritones
Santitas
Simply
Smartfood
Stacys
The Walking Taco
NatuChips
PopCorners (this one wasn't on their website, but was bought by Pepsi's in 2019 with the intent of adding it. So best avoided just in case). Yes, this really is more than half of the snack aisle. Suggested alternatives:
Kettle Brand Chips
Zapp's (If you can find them. My supermarket had them once and not since, so I'm guessing the culinary cowards in this neighborhood were afraid of "Voodoo" flavored chips).
Pringles
On the Border for salsa.
Wise Cheez Doodles
Bugles
Utz
Store own brand alternatives, if your store has ones that are any good.
Cheez-its
Check before you buy and let's tell these people they don't get to treat workers like that.
This was posted on FB recently by someone supporting the strike!
a sixty hour work week
What the fuck?
Sixty hours is what they are offering instead of 84.
Donβt forget now is also a great time to look for your local brands!
As an aside: Snyderβs of Hanover is not owned by Frito-Lay, and neither is any product you find by Utz Foods.
Also, to replace your Tostitos, may I recommend Xochitl? Better flavor, and proud to be minority-owned. They arenβt as βscoopable,β but when the flavorβs in the chip, they donβt have to be.
Donβt cross the picket line!
do not listen to this post! they will not let you eat the jello
Why did you think they would itβs EVIL jello
i think people in the middle ages acutally did know how to make photorealistic drawings they just chose not to because itβs funnier to draw some fucked up creature
they actually did make photorealistic drawings things just looked different back then
And now for a different kind of robot!Β
Truly this is the greatest robot I have ever seen IN MY LIFE
....my dad tried to make waffles
thinking about a twilight princess thatβs just the princesses
me creating pushed pork
think i might fuck around and cancel old films because they donβt model proper social distancing behavior
i love this because itβs such a simple concept but it answers things i didnβt even know how to ask
Looking out of peopleβs windows is such a peaceful way of travellingβ¦ I got a snowfall in Argentina, a nice sea view in Ukraine, a clothes line in the fog in Bangalore. Antonella from Tavernaro, I like your wooden bird.
nobody talk to me nobody touch me i live here now. this is my new favorite thing.
My first one was a little town in England and it mustβve been by the ocean because I could hear seagulls calling and waves crashing. Went through a couple more and then landed on one in Australia where the ownerβs cat was also looking out the window with meβ¦ I need a moment
last time i did this i ended up at a house in some small town in pennsylvania. just a view of the backyard, but they were playing βboth sides nowβ by joni mitchell over a record and someone was cooking. i sat and listened to the whole song.
now this is the content i crave.
Do you know what this is? This is The Heart from Auschwitz.
An act of defiance. A statement of hope. A crime punishable by death.
On December 12, 1944, locked inside Auschwitz, Polish teenager Fania turned twenty. After spending a year in a concentration camp, FaniaΒ didnβt expect her birthday to even be remembered - but her best friend, Zlatka, risked everything to make her a birthday present, a paper heart.Β
SimplyΒ making the heart - or carrying it - could get either of them killed.
The heart was signed by many of their friends, bearing notes in Polish, German, French, and Hebrew that announcedΒ "When you get old, put your glasses on your nose, take this album in your hand and read my signature again,β and βFreedom! Freedom! Freedom!β ItΒ was an act of great sacrifice and love for a friend.
Less than 40 days later, they began the Death March from Auschwitz to Ravensbruck, and from Ravensbruck to freedom. Fania carried the heart underΒ her arm the whole time. And survived.
Fania donated the heart to the Montreal Holocaust Memorial Center in 1988, where it is a featured piece ofΒ their exhibit. You can read more about the story of Fania and Zlatka Meg Wiviottβs Paper Hearts, coming September 2015.
God. Even in great darkness there is such love.
the 75th aniversary of the liberation of auschwitz is in a couple of days (jan 27 2020) so I feel this is a good thing to have on your dash. Remember that every single victim and survivor of the holocaust was a person with so much love in their heart and so many storiees and interpersonal relationships like this.
Huevember 21. Fou loaf was a thing that needed to happen.
