Yes Prime Minister
Summary: Gwilym Lee is the new Prime Minister of the UK and you just joined the staff at Downing Street. After an embarrassing first encounter, you and Gwilym grow closer but then the American Ambassador comes along to No. 10 and is taken with you. Downing Street has seen it`s fair share of political drama but never a love story.
A/N: Loosely based on Love Actually and the first section is definitely inspired by it. I only have a couple of chapters left of On The Frontline so I figured I`d start a new series and this has been in my head for while. As always, please leave feedback (it fuels my writing and motivates me to post) and let me know if you want to be tagged.
Warnings: Swearing, eventual smut
âY/N, straighten yourself upâ the housekeeper, Mrs Parker, tuts and shakes her head at you.
âYes ma`amâ you nod, double checking your blouse and pencil skirt, confused when you find everything is fine.
âShe yelled at me for looking too gormless a minute agoâ Jonathan, the executive chef chuckles, âshe`s just nervous and anxious to impress the new oneâÂ
âWell she certainly has her work cut out, I hear he`s a right nobâ you scoff.
âNow Miss Y/L/N, we shan`t have that kind of language in this householdâ Ben, the new private secretary scolds you.
âYes Mr Hardyâ you sigh.
âWhere is he anyway? He`s lateâ Ben mutters.
âProbably saying goodbye to Her Majestyâ Mrs Parker remarks and runs a critical eye over the line of staff, nodding in satisfaction.
âThe Queen does tend to ramble onâ Jonathan whispers to you and you can`t help but giggle.
âHere he comes, act lively everyoneâ Mrs Parker announces and stands to attention at the front of the line.
The door opens and the room is shrouded in camera flashes, yells from the journalists hanging around outside assault your ears.
With the black door closed, everyone can recover their sigh and hearing but before you could see the new leader of the United Kingdom, Mrs Parker stood right in front of you.
âWelcome to Downing Street Prime Ministerâ Mrs Parker smiles and holds her hand out, âMy name is Mrs Parker, I am the house keeperâÂ
âWonderful to meet you Mrs Parker, I have heard so many great things about youâ his voice is deep and smooth, oozing the charm that is a prerequisite for becoming a politician.
âThis is Terrence, he is in chargeâ she points at the older man.
âNice to meet you, I had an uncle named Terrence once. I think he was a pervert but I very much like the look of youâ he rambles slightly.
Curiosity grabs you and you lean forward, anxious to meet him in person but Jonathan steps in front of you.
âPleasure to meet you Prime Minister, I am the head chef so just tell me what you want to eat and I`ll whip it upâ he lets out a nervous chuckle.
âGood to know, I`m a simple bloke so meat, veg and potatoes will win me over every timeâÂ
âSounds good sirâ Jonathan nods and steps back.
You finally get a good look at your new boss and you freeze.
He is bloody gorgeous! Tall with piercing blue eyes that radiate authoritative kindness.
No wonder he won the majority of the female voters over.
âFucking hellâ you blurt out and immediately blush.
âOh my god I`m so sorryâ you cover your mouth with your hand.
Mrs Parker is fuming and you are certain you are going to be sacked.
âThis is Y/N Y/L/N, she`s new like youâ Mrs Parker grits her teeth.
Jonathan looks at you with humourous horror yet the worst reaction is from the Prime Minister.
He pauses and you think he is going to yell at you but he surprises you.
The foyer of No. 10 echoes with the sound of his laughter.
The new PM grins and shakes his head, âit`s okayâ he reassures you.
âI promised myself I wouldn`t swear but I`ve fucked that upâŚshitâ you close your eyes.
He just chuckles once more and his smile fascinates you.
âHonestly, it`s okayâ he promises, âI`m surprised I didn`t let out the odd fuck or two when I was campaigningâ
You let out a relieved sigh and smile at him, his blue eyes trace your face and he seems stuck until Ben steps forward, holding his hand out.
âBenjamin Hardy sir, the new private secretaryâ he introduces himself.
âAh Mr Hardy, we will be seeing a lot of each other over the next five yearsâ he shakes the shorter man`s hand.
âI`ll be in soon with the new paperwork sirâ Ben nods.
âAh the joys of setting up a cabinetâ the Prime Minister muses.
âCome along sir, I shall show you your quarters and your officeâ Mrs Parker shuffles forward but not without a glare in your direction that warns you she will be dealing with you later.
The Prime Minister glances down the line at his staff one last time before following the housekeeper.
âWell I think that went splendidlyâ Jonathan smirks.
âFuck offâ you shove him.
âThat`s the exact kind of language that got you into this mess Y/Nâ Harriet, one of the junior housekeepers giggles.
âI`m fuckedâ you curse, not knowing if you mean your attraction to the most powerful man in the country or the precarious status of your position.
Mrs Parker returns an hour later and calls you into her office with a bark.
âYes ma`amâ you stand in front of her desk.
âI am disgusted by your behaviour with the Prime Minister but he seems to find it amusing. He requested that I forgive your indiscretion this time so I am following his orders to keep you onâ she states and you let off a deep breath.
âThank you so much, I promise it will not happen again ma`amâ you smile gratefully.
âJust remember that if it were down to me, you would be firedâ she warns, ânow please fetch the Prime Minister some teaâÂ
You nod and head straight to the kitchen to retrieve the tea tray.
