Idk how to phrase this but Gay Lord of the Rings and Straight Lord of the Rings are two completely different trilogies. hilariously different. I hear straight people talk about lord of the rings and itā€™s like they watched the movies in a bizarre funhouse mirror alternate realityĀ

Iā€™m through 2/3 of TLOR and I genuinely donā€™t understand how anyone can read this and NOT think itā€™s pretty fucking gay

Like Sam LITERALLY spends an entire PARAGRAPH talking about how beautiful he thinks Frodo is, his age lines, watching him sleep, and actually saying that he loves him

Like

If thatā€™s not gay then idk what is

The Google Gemini rabbit hole just keeps on getting deeper: the author Peter Hasson, whose book "The Manipulators" examines the left-wing bias of Silicon Valley giants like Google, Facebook and YouTube (owned by Google), asked the Google AI program for a summation of his book and was given entirely made-up quotes condemning it.

Cannot find any trace online of a New York Times review of the book by Emily Bazelon, or any article there about it by Ben Smith. No mention of the book at all, in fact, by the NYT. Searches for a review by Emily Dreyfuss in Wired also came up with nothing.

So Google's AI program really did just make up three fake articles out of thin air to try justify it labeling the book "lacking in concrete evidence and relying on anecdotal information".

That's damn creepy. I don't know if Hasson could sue them for this (maybe for libel?) but if it's possible, I hope he does.

disturbingly fatphobic cross-stitch hearts???

Calling it "fathpobic" because someone who isn't you doesn't want to be fat is the most smartphobic take I've seen all day.

I don't know who Brian Auger, the guy at the top, was, but he would seem to have had rather a high opinion of himself.

Before reading the comment, my impression was more an "on the shoulders of giants" view. Less a high opinion of himself and more a high opinion of everyone who pioneered before him.

But, I have no idea who he is, he could be a fully arrogant weenie. I couldn't say for sure by any means.

my review of serial experiments lain episode 1

hello everybody i just finished watching serial experiments lain episode 1 and wanted to write a review. okay i'm going to start with a plot synopsis so far:

plot synopsis:

the episode starts on a group of scientists all looking at each other in a circle. and one of them says "we have to do experiments on Lain.....in a series" and Lain happens to be passing by right at that moment.

and so another scientist is like "THERE SHE IS, FUCKING GET HER!!!" and they all start chasing after her and she starts running away. most of the episode is a chase sequence with the scientists trying to do the serial experiments and Lain.

at one point there are 2 workers carrying a big glass pane (or, implied to be, as it is totally see-through) and Lain runs right through it somehow but the scientists crash into it. i thought that was silly and liked it.

also at one point the scientists are all running together and they realize there's 1 more of them than there was before, and turns out it's Lain disguised in a labcoat and fake glasses/nose/mustache combo, and she goes "ehe" and does a big bead of sweat as her fake glasses/nose/mustache combo slips a bit. then she zooms away, leaving the labcoat and the fake glasses/nose/mustache combo hanging in the air.

finally, they catch her by throwing a brick at her head

review:

i can see why this is a well regarded series. the gags are good, and i'm left wondering who the scientists are and why they want to do serial experiments on Lain. And I'm also left wondering what the experiments will be and who Lain is. i'm wondering a lot of things and that is a sign of a good series.

i so far give it a 7/10 but will adjust the score based on how funny the experiments are

---

update:

the first experiment is they are making her run a ninja warrior style obstacle course. she has having trouble with the part where you gotta hang on to a swinging punching bag type thing, and keeps falling into the slime. i think i would do better on that part as i have greater upper body strength than a middle school girl

update 2:

they are seeing what the biggest animal is that Lain could beat in a fight

A federal judge has ruled that Canada's use of emergency powers to end the anti-government Freedom Convoy protests two years ago was "unreasonable" and unjustified.

In a decision on Tuesday, Judge Richard Mosley also said it violated Canada's rights charter.

The Emergencies Act bestows the government with added powers in times of crisis. Prime Minister Justin Trudeau invoked it on 14 February 2022, three weeks into protests that gridlocked the capital.

Dubbed the "Freedom Convoy", the protest against the government's Covid-19 vaccine mandate gained international attention as hundreds of demonstrators settled in for weeks around Ottawa's Parliament Hill, many in trucks.

Shorter protests and blockades also cropped up at various border points across the country.

The emergency powers allowed the government to impose bans on public assembly in some areas and to prohibit travel to protest zones, including by foreign nationals, among other measures.

In Tuesday's decision, Judge Mosely wrote: "I have concluded that the decision to issue the proclamation does not bear the hallmarks of reasonableness - justification, transparency and intelligibility - and was not justified in relation to the relevant factual and legal constraints that were required to be taken into consideration."

I mean, that's neat and all. But, he still did it and is still getting away with it.

If I punch you and steal your money, then, two years later a judge says "yup, that was sure naughty." That doesn't mean shit. It doesn't unpunch you, it doesn't unrob you, and it does nothing to me.

I could punch and rob you outside the courthouse immediately after that again knowing that my "punishment" is in two years i get told "sure was inappropriate you did that". That's called getting away with it.

Never heard the dude's music but, like the Ben Shapiro rap tune presently at #1 on the iTunes chart, it's indicative of the wider shift in the Overton window we've been seeing ever since Trump entered the political landscape.

Biden and the Democrats now represent brutally-enforced "wokeness", power, media corruption and lies and the unbearably fucked-up present status quo, whereas Trump increasingly seems to represent fun, freedom, irreverence, danger and the indomitable human spirit in the face of state violence. It's easy to see why that would seem much more inspiring, appealing and hopeful to millions of people around the world.

I don't think of myself as left or right, as there is undeniable fanaticism and evil on both "sides" that I cannot get behind, but it's impossible for me to not see that there's really nothing left on the Left now but insanity and the enthusiastically-applauded destruction of western civilization.
