It honestly fascinates me sometimes to stop and think about how long so many pop culture franchises have been around for.

Star Wars is going to turn 42 years old this year.

The first Scooby Doo cartoon came out in 1969.

Doctor Who and Star Trek came out in 1963 and 1966 respectively. They’ll both be 60 years old soon.

The original Godzilla came out in 1954.

Most of Marvel comics’ most iconic characters debuted in the 1960′s, with the exception of Captain America who’s been around since the early 40′s. While over at DC, Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman made their debuts in 1938, 1939 and 1942 respectively.

Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck and Goofy have been around since 1928, 1934 and 1932.

Bugs Bunny and Daffy Duck have been around since 1940 (Though, I guess technically more like 1938?) and 1937, with the Looney Tunes in general having been a thing since 1930.

Sherlock Holmes has been around since 1887!

And I could go on!

And like, all of those franchises are still going on with new installments, new iterations and re-imaginings and new stories to this day. And while many of them have had their ups and downs in terms of popularity, they’ve all in some way remained visible, relevant aspects of pop culture for many, many years that pretty much everyone is at least aware of.

Generations of people have grown up with these series and characters, and new generations will continue to discover and enjoy them through re-releases and new installments for probably as long as society goes on. That’s the kind of staying power stories and iconic characters have.

And with the obvious exception of Sherlock Holmes, there are still people alive today who were there when all of these franchises came out, and grew up with them as children and are still following the new installments.

I can’t help but look at popular franchises that came out when I was a kid, like Pokémon and Power Rangers or Harry Potter, all of which are still going on with new installments and stories today, and wonder if new generations of kids are going to discover them through new installments 20, 40, 60, etc years from now, and people like me who’ve been fans since the beginning are going to be right here still enjoying them too.

And what new franchises that have started up this and next decade will endure for the rest of the century with them?

It’s so exciting to think about.

Crab walks around with Jellyfish on its back to protect it from predators

These #jellyfish Cassiopea (upside-down jellyfish) partake in a symbiotic relationship with photosynthetic dinoflagellates and therefore, must lay upside-down in areas with sufficient light penetration to fuel their energy source. Where found, there may be numerous individuals with varying shades of white, blue, green and brown.

Sometimes this jellyfish is picked up by the #crab Dorippe frascone and carried on its back. The crab uses the jellyfish to defend itself against possible predators.

Opisthoteuthis californiana, also known as the flapjack octopus, is a species of umbrella octopus. Their maximum size is 20 centimetres (7.9 in) mantle length. They have eight jointed legs which are affixed together in an umbrella shape and have a gelatinous body, which spreads into a parachute shape when manoeuvring through dimly lit water.

The Falcon 9 Nebula : Not the Hubble Space Telescope’s latest view of a distant planetary nebula, this illuminated cloud of gas and dust dazzled even casual U.S. west coast skygazers on October 7. Taken about three miles north of Vandenberg Air Force Base, the image follows plumes and exhaust from the first and second stage of a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket rising through southern California’s early evening skies. In the fading twilight, the reddish smoke drifting in the foreground at the right is from the initial ascent of the rocket. The expanding blue and orange filamentary plumes are from first and second stage separation and the first stage boostback burn, still in sunlight at extreme altitudes. But the bright spot below center is the second stage itself headed almost directly away from the camera, accelerating to orbital velocity and far downrange. Pulsed thrusters form the upside down V-shape at the top as they guide the reusable Falcon 9 first stage back to the landing site. via NASA

Not so gentle reminder:

If you sexualize children/teens then you are an absolutely disgusting person and should never be allowed to be near children or any young person. They are not yours to sexualize and frankly, its repulsive.

If your a young person above 18 and experiencing this please do not come on here and try to find others, seek help and therapy because that is what will help.

Anti contact ‘MAPS’ are just using that term to cover up what disgusting things they want to look at. There is no such thing as an ‘Anti-contact’ MAP because there are children on here, and in the real world that they would come across, and therefore be in contact with.

I’m sick to my fucking stomach

The ‘MAP’ flag had the same color scheme as the pan flag and now they’re switching to the bi flag

If you see anyone with this flag or any variation

Run

Don’t fucking hesitate to block because pedos are now using this new “flag” and other forms of it

Can I get a signal boost from larger accounts? Start tagging people so this will spread

How do you pronounce characters’ names?

I feel like my accent/laziness makes them sound weird sometimes, and I’m always curious about other people’s experiences.

Asra: Az-ruh

Faust: Fowst

Ilya: Ill-yuh

Julian: Joo-lee-in

Lucio: Loo-see-oh

Muriel: Myur-ee-ull

Nadia: Nah-dee-yuh

Pasha: Pah-shuh

Portia: Pour-shuh

Oh my gods my name is on a pronunciation list, what a time to be alive

In the Heart of the Heart Nebula : What’s that inside the Heart Nebula? First, the large emission nebula dubbed IC 1805 looks, in whole, like a human heart. It’s shape perhaps fitting of the Valentine’s Day, this heart glows brightly in red light emitted by its most prominent element: hydrogen. The red glow and the larger shape are all created by a small group of stars near the nebula’s center. In the heart of the Heart Nebula are young stars from the open star cluster Melotte 15 that are eroding away several picturesque dust pillars with their energetic light and winds. The open cluster of stars contains a few bright stars nearly 50 times the mass of our Sun, many dim stars only a fraction of the mass of our Sun, and an absent microquasar that was expelled millions of years ago. The Heart Nebula is located about 7,500 light years away toward the constellation of the mythological Queen of Aethiopia (Cassiopeia). via NASA

Pillars Of Creation

Pillars of Creation is a photograph taken by the Hubble Space Telescope of elephant trunks of interstellar gas and dust in the Eagle Nebula, some 6,500-7,000 light years from Earth

They are named so because the gas and dust are in the process of creating new stars, while also being eroded by the light from nearby stars that have recently formed. Taken on April 1, 1995, it was named one of the top ten photographs from Hubble by Space.com. The astronomers responsible for the photo were Jeff Hester and Paul Scowen from Arizona State University. In 2011, the region was re-photographed by ESA’s Herschel Space Observatory.
