When those in power constantly lied about the little things, it isn't hard to see why people have tuned out--and even questioned whether masks were even effective against the virus.

there ARE better rapid tests. the government didn't give them to us and didn't make insurance cover them, which SUCKS, but if you want accurate rapid tests, look up Lucira and Metrix. (Lucira also tests for flu at the same time.)

they also cost more. but you get what you pay for. the rapid antigen tests are not reliable for current iterations of covid so you're supposed to test multiple times over multiple days and if you use five $5 tests you might as well have paid $25 for a metrix test in the first place. lucira and metrix amplify the DNA in a sample in half an hour, which means they're not fooled by the virus changing its shell.

this is not a fix for the structural problems op is pointing out but if you as an individual are trying to figure out what tools are available to keep yourself safe, here's info on accurate home diagnostics.

terry crews is honestly a perfect example of how males treat male victims. i was a heavy twitter user when terry crews came out as a victim of sexual assault. his replies were flooded with nothing but sympathy and love from women and what were his replies from men? making a pure mockery out of him. asking him why he didn't fight him off, calling him gay, saying no way a man that size could be assaulted. this is why i do not listen to males whenever they pull out the what about male victims card. you are the ones that do not care about male victims. i have seen more feminist women show support to male victims of sexual assault than i have other men. they don't care at all about male victims. they want to silence women who speak about sex based oppression and how rape ties into that.

One of my favorite griddlehark moments was

Gideon: fuck you I've been keeping my head down and not talking to anyone

Harrow: punching the Third's bitch boy is keeping your head down?

Gideon: you saying I shouldn't have done that?

Harrow: no, you should have done it harder, but that's not the point.

Caption: [A stitch with user @/sapphicyuji. The text on screen reads, " "you can't misgender cis people!", you have never had your gender questioned outside of your transness and it shows. sincerely, a trans poc".

I'm actually super glad we're having a conversation about this. The masculinization of black and brown women, because for years I felt like I endured this unique form of trauma until I realized other people went through the same thing too. And if there's one thing that I'd like to add to the conversation, there seems to be this misconception that this is something that starts at puberty. Like boys tell you you look like a man to hurt your feeling when that's so far from the case.

The first time I was purposefully misgendered was in kindergarten. I was constantly referred to by the masculine variant of my name, I was chased out of the women's restroom, and I had grown adults questioning what my biological sex was before I even knew what the difference was. And those behaviors persisted into adulthood because now if I present as anything less than 100% feminine, people will either compare me to men or animals.

And for myself and for many other brown and black women this is a life long act deliberately intended to humiliate, shame, and other us for the features we were naturally born with and I'm glad we're having a discussion on how harmful it actually is.]

One of my least favourite dialogue tropes is when a man tells a woman, “You can’t do that” or “I wouldn’t do that if I were you” and she says, “Why? Because I’m a woman and therefore too weak to handle this/can’t take care of myself?” or something to that effect and the guy replies with, “No, because everyone who tried that ended up with a bullet in their brain” or something equally reasonable and not gender-specific that paints him as the rational not sexist guy and the woman as an irrational paranoid feminist who searches for sexism in everything. This whole scenario is built on the idea that sexism is over and women’s fears and suspicions don’t have a leg to stand on. It’s also self-congratulatory pseudofeminism bc it’s supposed to make the viewer/reader/listener feel that in this specific work of fiction women are treated respectfully and as equal with men.

huh.. never thought of it like that

But, what if the male character isn’t sexist? I meam…their fictional sure but…I’m not sure how to phrase this

Its not a question of the character themselves- its how the writers are portraying them. The way this trope plays out, the whole moment revolves around the woman looking foolish for assuming that there is sexism happening. She is characterized as being irrational, jumping to conclusions, even insecure. While the dude is characterized as the calm, rational one.

It is a trope that specifically works by taking a woman standing up to sexism and saying “haha it wasnt actually sexist at all! Isnt calling out sexism foolish and silly. Thats what you get for assuming that men are sexist!”

I have the same reaction with homophobic jokes set up like this. Like the whole “you can’t marry a woman”, “why bc you think its wrong” “no we haven’t found you the right dress yet silly!” Or stuff along those lines.

It feels like someone setting up to punch you and then you duck and the person goes “haha, i wasn’t gonna punch you at all, why would you duck? You shouldnt just assume someone’s gonna deck you because they have their fists up.”

saw someone once describe those kinds of “jokes” as winding up they’re going to punch you and then laughing when you flinch.
