if a character means enough to me i will truly never stop thinking about them. i just retire them into a little back room in my brain and periodically bring them out to stare at them under a little light

A fawn curled up beside a fake deer which is used for target practice.

Please note the calm looking fawn.

It’s mother has most likely used the fake deer as cover for the fawn to sleep near. I’ve personally witnessed a doe direct a fawn to lay in a patch of tall weeds and go lay on a hill where she could see me and the tall patch of weeds. That’s what they do, find something bigger than the fawn to sleep near so they’re hidden while they sleep.

This isn’t a sad child looking for something mother-like, this is a kid getting put to bed.

so the mom just managed to find the most haunting large object behind which to hide a child

@deerstar4 too good to be banished to the tags

If people are interested in other podcasts like welcome to night Vale, I would recommend:

  • “I am in Eskew”. The closest one to WTNV, as it also revolves around a strange town and uneasy, horrific happenings. A man is trapped in the never ending and surreal city of Eskew, and makes endless recordings detailing his life as he tries to contact the outside. Content warning for body horror and other disturbing scenes, so check out the full list of triggers before you listen.
Favorite episodes: 1, and 5.
  • The Slit Verses – two worshippers of an outlawed god travel up a river to search for holy revelations. As it goes on, they become the subject of a man hunt and come into contact with stranger gods. ( Everyone say thank you Eskew Productions for being so wonderful!)
  • And of course– The No Sleep Podcast. Being a fan of this show for over ten years, I eventually had to stop listening. I can only direct you to the shows spotify and tell you that some of this show is utterly amazing, some of it isn’t that good. But here is a playlist with my favorite nosleep stories and if you have to know, seasons 8-11 were my favorites. Anything to do with nature really hooked me.
  • Lore by Aaron Mahnke. Mahnke was a narrator on Nosleep and he left to pursue his dream. Lore is more historical true crime than stories, but it’s very well done. Lots of dark hororr to be found here, for the true crime junkies who also like history.
  • And finally, Rusty Quill presents… The Magnus Archives. What lurks in the archives, indeed; basically, Johnathan Sims explores the archives and the archives begin to explore him. It’s very good just give it a try if Eskew was, or wasn’t, your thing. Also super long and detailed !

Other podcasts I haven’t tried yet but after learning about them today I will be:

It breaks my heart to see how underrated pigeons are. The fact that we had literally domesticated them, making them absolutely dependent on us and now that we've abandoned them, we treat them poorly when they try to coexist with us. It's our responsibility for how they have adapted, how they can't build nests and how they try to find food wherever we are. Please be nice to pigeons

In the field where I had flown, Lived a man who flew with me, And he flew me all my life, In the sky of air machines, So we flew towards the sun, 'Til we found a runway green, And we lived beneath the shade, Of our yellow air machine.

Just had a dream that a novel exists which is written from the POV of an old man dying in the 1920s in the form of diary entries and bit by bit it's revealed it's actually a closeted trans woman who was out during her youth and forced to recloset and now I desperately want to read it

The narrator was like, referring to a girl called Sarah in all the writings, and at the start it's super unclear who Sarah actually is and it's speculated by the people around that she may be a lover from the narrator's youth, until it's noted that Sarah had heterochromia and that's the defining trait of the narrator

Oh also Sarah did actually have a lover. They were T4T and lived in a little cottage by a lake until he was drowned in it and Sarah couldn't make ends meet anymore and had to recloset

Okay a bunch of people have told me to write the thing now so I've decided if this post gets 30K I'm turning the thing into an epistolary novel.
