From Broke to Booked: Being a Self-Taught Braider 💆🏽‍♀️

Yall, I am still shook from hosting my own lecture-demo this past weekend. After months of prep (think 46 slides!) I did a 2 hour workshop on Black Hair History, science and BRAIDING! (Under-hand and cornrows 😭) Had to workshop it a couple times & take a 12 hr train ride, but seeing the smiles & the engagement was downright magical ✨

This journeys been WILD.

A few years ago when I was living in New Orleans a month bus pass felt like a luxury. Fast forward to today as a self-taught braider in Orange County and I made half my rent in that 2 hour workshop. God is faithful! 🙌🏾

Building a business from the ground up is quite a ride but moments like this remind me why I do it. Empowering families, and people of all ages to embracing and appreciate black hair culture.
