isn’t there a part of the bible where god gets mad at a fig tree for not having any figs on it and curses the fig tree?

yeah there legit is that’s 100% true

Yes.

Oh my god

last time we reblogged this we got anon hate from the christian community. You guys really are passionate about your figs.

I just love that they included this story like do you think Jesus and the Lads just retold that story every time they had a drink like “NEVER HAVE I EVER CURSED A FIG TREE” and Jesus is like “you GUYS”

There is no crime where torture is an acceptable punishment.

There is no crime where sexual assault is an acceptable punishment.

There is no crime where slavery is an acceptable punishment.

"Well obviously people arrested for drugs and other non-violent crimes shouldn't be forced to work but—"

No! There is no but!! There is nothing in the world that makes slavery okay!!!

I could talk about people being charged for crimes they didn't commit. I could talk about coerced confessions. I could talk about people being charged with more extreme crimes than what they did to fill prisons. I could talk about how slaves out of certain types of criminals creates an incentive to charge more people with certain crimes.

But I'm not going to actually talk about any of that because it doesn't matter. No one should be enslaved. No one should be defending or justifying slavery. This should not be controversial.

I agree with your point, but I want to add more:

There is no crime where medical experimentation is an acceptable punishment.

I've seen way too many people argue that we should test the COVID vaccines on prisoners and as a Jewish scientist, I cannot tell you how revolting that concept is.

If I had more money than I'd ever spend in a lifetime, I'd spend my life operating a pizzeria at a loss. Something with the slogan of "it ain't italian but you're hungry" - and a statement of how this is not authentic italian pizza because the owner's estranged aunt's italian ex-husband would not serve pizza in his italian restaurant because as far as he was concerned, a pizza is the "just throw that shit together" dish that you make out of leftovers, and he would not serve that to paying customers even if they wanted it. True story btw.

But I'd just like to run a place where the staff is allowed to tell rude customers to fuck off. And if they're scared to do that, they can summon me downstairs to do it myself (this fantasy involves having my own apartment upstairs of the restaurant), because you don't fucking disrespect my staff like that. Develop a reputation as a place where You'd Better Act Yourself or you get nothing, which elevates the quality of the food in peoples' minds because it's human to assume that more work=more worth, and if a pizza place can afford to simply throw rude customers out, that clearly must mean that the food is just that good that going back is worth it anyway.

Hiring enough people to get the work done in a leisurely pace and occasionally have the time to chat with each other or customers. You just do the job I gave you in the time I gave you, don't steal anything and don't watch porn off your phone anywhere where the customers can see you, you're good. Don't care if you quit school at 16 if you can still mop floor. Don't care if you've been to prison because you killed some guy, as long as you're not doing that here. Don't care if you deal drugs on your free time as long as you don't bring your business to your day job. This place is exclusively for pizza business.

Have an item on the menu called "random pizza" - and if you order that one, they'll just throw in a mix of whatever ingredients we've got too much of, like if the bell peppers gotta be used before they go bad, every single random pizza is going to have them until they're either gone or need to get tossed. If you've got dietary restrictions or allergies, you gotta specify that while ordering, because other than that, random pizza is just whatever ingredients we need to get rid of. Surplus ingredients du jour.

Building a reputation as a place that's somehow simultaneously sketchy as hell but also remarkably high quality, getting five star restaurant customer service from a waiter with blue hair and stick-n-poke tattoos, there's a homeless guy at the back of the kitchen eating an order that nobody picked up, every surface is spotless and no matter how important of a suit-and-tie you are, if you won't behave yourself the owner will personally physically fight you.

Read the Project 2025 manifesto RIGHT NOW

There is so much here you'll have to look at it for yourself, but the climate policy alone is nightmare fuel.

The republican coalition wants to essentially end funding for green energy, dramatically promote and expand fossil fuel industries, and eliminate funding and regulations in all sectors promoting climate change mitigation. Task forces and offices related to clean energy and lowering carbon emissions will be eliminated and replaced with offices for promoting fossil fuels.

They want to LOG NATIONAL FORESTS TO "THIN" THE TREES TO STOP WILDFIRES.

THEY WANT TO FORCE OREGON AND CALIFORNIA TO LOG THEIR NATIONAL FORESTS AND TREAT THEM AS FOR TIMBER PRODUCTION

There are specific provisions in Project 2025 to essentially destroy the Endangered Species Act, causing it to defer to the rights of "economic development" and "private property." The plan includes delisting gray wolves, cutting the budget so that a "triage" system is used to determine which species will get protection, removing funding for research, removing experts and specialists from the decision-making process, and preventing "experimental" populations of animals from being established.

This is so much worse than I expected it to be and there's much more past that: They want to deregulate pesticides and remove much of the EPA's ability to regulate pollutants as well.

Also included in the manifesto is that we should

withdraw from nuclear weapons nonproliferation agreements, build more nuclear weapons, and resume nuclear weapons testing

The manifesto comprehensively outlines the scorched-earth elimination of abortion access, down to ensuring doctors aren't even trained to perform abortions. There are plans in here to disrupt abortion access GLOBALLY, not just domestically.

Not only that, the Republicans plan on reframing family planning programs around "fertility awareness" and "holistic family planning."

I can't even describe it all. I'm trying to give screenshots of the most important things but there's so much.

The foreign policy is a nightmare. They plan to push fossil fuels onto the Global South and promote the development of fossil fuel industry in the "developing world."

It is aggressive and antagonistic towards other nations, strongly pro-military, proposing that we INCREASE (!!!!!) defense spending, improve public opinion of the military and military recruitment, and increase the power to fund new weapons technology.

Just read the Department of Defense section. It's about greatly increasing and strengthening the military-industrial complex, collaborating more closely with weapons manufacturers, removing regulatory barriers to arming our allies and to inventing new military weapons, and recruiting more people into the military. They include provisions to develop AI technology for surveillance. And of course, continuing to support Israel is in there.

Elsewhere it proposes interfering in foreign countries with creepy pro-USA propaganda campaigns, even establishing international educational programs where faculty have to pledge to promote USA interests.

There's a line in here about getting rid of PBS because SESAME STREET is LEFTIST for God's sake.

HOW are people claiming democrats have the same policies. I feel like i'm losing my mind.

Oh God I missed the "Department of State" chapter somehow

The Project 2025 Republican's view of international relationships is that the USA needs to have total dominance over the globe and should behave more aggressively toward foreign "enemies."

It states that Mexico is no longer "sovereign" and needs the USA to step in and create a sovereign government for Mexico

The USA should make Central and South America the new center of "global manufacturing and industry"

First, the United States must do everything possible, with both resources and messaging, to shift global manufacturing and industry from more distant points around the globe (especially from the increasingly hostile and human rights-abusing PRC) to Central and South American countries.

And we should adopt totally unconditional support towards Israel

ensuring Israel has both the military means and the political support and flexibility to take what it deems to be appropriate measures to defend itself against the Iranian regime and its regional proxies Hamas, Hezbollah, and Palestinian Islamic Jihad.

International organizations should be only a means to an end and should be severed from US policy if they don't "support our interests"

The Trump Administration’s “tough love” approach to international organizations served American interests. For example, the Trump Administration withdrew from, or terminated funding for, the United Nations Human Rights Council, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization, the United Nations Relief and Works Agency, and the WHO. The results were redeployment of taxpayer dollars to better uses—and other organizations “getting the message” that the United States will not allow itself and its money to be used to undermine its own interests.

Ultimately, one of the Republican's goals is to globally redefine human rights. The manifesto says that only "actual" human rights should be supported, not "Radical social policies," and that human rights organizations should be anti-abortion and support "traditional families."

International organizations should not be used to promote radical social policies as if they were human rights priorities. Doing so undermines actual human rights and weakens U.S. credibility abroad. The next Administration should use its voice, influence, votes, and funding in international organizations to promote authentic human rights (...) It is paramount to create a healthy culture of respect for life, the family, sovereignty, and authentic human rights in international organizations and agencies. (...) The U.S. government should not and cannot promote or fund abortion in international programs or multilateral organizations. Technically, the United States can prevent its international funding from going toward abortions, but the U.S. will have a greater impact by including like-minded nations and building on the coalition launched through the Geneva Consensus Declaration, with a view to shaping the work of international agencies by functioning as a united front.

The Republicans want to destroy abortion access GLOBALLY

To be clear. The current government does not allow them to do all this. It would require them to trash the existing democratic process and install a dictator.

Genuinely, what scares the shit out of me is that I don't think many voters even KNOW that these are the policies.

Like, a lot of people engage with politics only secondhand, learning about politicians' viewpoints through what social media posts allege or imply, and don't actually listen to the politicians themselves.

I keep telling myself, there's still time for both candidates to die.

Even if Trump died with a plan like that ready to go they would just put someone else in his place to enact it.

We can't let them.

It's a long time in the making. We've been breeding the fascism final boss ever since colonization. Now we're the bomb that the rest of planet earth is strapped to.

We've got each other. Its time to start making plans to keep each other safe and fight against this evil should it come to pass. For now we can still do what we can to stop it.

Just the fact that so many people talk about "feeling fat" and "looking fat" despite not actually being fat, betrays that it's fucking not all about health. People fear even this perceived proximity to fatness. "I feel fat today" means "I feel ugly and therefore some kind of unworthy". "I look fat in that picture" means "I appear uglier than I consider myself to officially be". Neither of them means "I feel compelled to check my cholesterol" or whatever

Jellyfish really doesn't pull any punches, does it? Every new episode, it tugs at my heartstrings in a way I wasn't really expecting.

By now, it's clear that Yorukura is much more than people were expecting at first glance, but I find myself being pleasantly surprised every week.

Jellyfish refuses to let you get cozy with your preconceived notions of one of their characters, which was expected with the main girls, and an episode focused on Miiko? I confess I was less than excited about it. But they don't relent, they say "silly, there's always more to a person's story."

I confess that I went "oh, what the fuck" when she revealed her age because, well, I already think the whole idol thing is kinda embarrassing, and to have a whole ass adult doing it? Oof, right?

And maybe a different anime would gladly relegate her to a comedic role, a self-proclaimed rival that never really stood a chance, a character aiming for laughs that strikes pity more often than not, but here they give her an entire life and make you confront her as a full blown character.

She is 31, she is divorced, she has a daughter. She is a single mom working who knows how many jobs, and trying to be an idol in the meantime. She manages to give her daughter a good and comfortable life. She makes high quality clothes for herself and her daughter. She isn't withdrawn, or absent, and she clearly loves her daughter very much. She puts her daughter first.

When the episode comes to a close, instead of the second-hand embarrassment I was expecting to feel, I'm left with my heart warmed.

What this show offers is beautiful.

What an incredible episode to have watched today.

Happy Mother's Day

Literally fucking went on a multi hour rant in my last WoW stream about how much I think level scaling ruins games, especially MMOs, because I ***LIKE*** the feeling of outleveling an area and seeing a direct increase to my character's power. I DON'T like that if I level up, I get WEAKER, and have to get new gear replacements to feel stronger because MY stats come from GEAR, but ENEMY stats ONLY COME FROM LEVEL, WHICH THEY GAIN WHEN I LEVEL, SO THE ENEMIES I JUST KILLED TO LEVEL UP ARE NOW HARDER TO KILL BECAUSE I HAVEN'T UPGRADED MY GEAR YET.

Know what else I like? I like not being able to equip a piece of gear I found until I level up and being excited to put it on once I hit that level, because it's like a BoE Epic I found that has a level 42 requirement and I'm level 40. Oh but we can't have that, now can we? NAH. EVERY PIECE OF GEAR LEVEL SCALES TO YOU NOW SO YOU CAN JUST EQUIP IT AS SOON AS YOU FIND IT. OH DID YOU FIND A BoE EPIC AT LEVEL 10? GUESS YOU FOUND A LEVEL 10 VERSION OF IT WITH SUCK-DICK STATS, BITCH.

"But Jay, don't you hate having to drop all the quests in the zone and go to a new zone because you outleveled it?"

NO I FUCKING DON'T. I absolutely LOVE being ENCOURAGED TO GO LEVEL SOMEWHERE ELSE.

When you make every single zone in the game equal and level scaled you're encouraged to only go to the zones that are the quickest and least hassle to deal with that have the fastest quests and the easiest flow from quest to quest with the least downtime.

Rather than consciously making the decision to choose a zone based on your current level.

It also makes the world feel MUCH smaller when you aren't encouraged to actually go to other zones due to your level. Why go to Badlands? Why go to Un'Goro Crater? Why go to Tanaris? Why go to Thousand Needles? Why go to Desolace? EVER? You can hit level cap just doing Elwynn, Westfall, Darkshore, Redridge and a little bit of Shadowmoon Valley (WoD) and then you saunter into Dragonflight and realize Dragonflight sucks dick and roll a new character.

Level scaling should be optional, it should be tied 100% to Chromie Time and not be part of the game as a base. Enemies/quests should have levels again by default and if you want to turn on scaling you go to Chromie and toggle it on.

Scaling also brings FUCKLOADS of other problems. For example: Balance tuning.

A level 60 in Stockades is doing pisspoor damage to the bosses, but a level 11 in Stockades is LITERALLY TWO-SHOTTING THE BOSSES. Why? Why is the level 60 so much weaker than the level 11? Because of LEVEL SCALING.

The way they handled power-scaling is that they made every ability do damage based on the percentage of enemy health, and made lower level characters do a higher percentage of the enemy's health in damage, because they have less abilities and utilities so Blizzard's trying to make sure they aren't useless. But in doing so, now a Mage that only has Fireball and Arcane Explosion is running through the dungeon literally 1-shotting every single group of enemies while a level 60 Arcane Mage is behind the FUCKING LEVEL 11 HEALER on DPS. Why? Because the LEVEL 11 HEALER IS SPAMMING HOLY NOVA AND 1-SHOTTING EVERYTHING WHILE ALSO FULL-HEALING THEIR GROUP.

This is an absolutely fucking garbage way for an MMO to feel. Level scaling is a broken mess that takes away so much sense of adventure from the game. I like being encouraged to leave the zone I'm in because the XP gain dried up and the quest rewards aren't good anymore, I like going back and doing low-level quests just for the achievement and the transmog, I like getting to the point where enemies aren't a threat to me anymore and I'm just one-bopping them because I outleveled them and I need to find bigger badder prey, and I FUCKING HATE THAT LEVEL 2 WOLVES IN ELWYNN FOREST ARE A FUCKING THREAT TO MY LEVEL 25 CHARACTER I'M FARMING PEACEBLOOM ON BECAUSE THEY'RE SCALED TO MY FUCKING LEVEL AND KNOCKING ME OFF MY GODDAMN MOUNT.

Movie Idea: An 80s-throwback action-comedy about a robot-war where, the machines are humanity’s side; they just want to kill all the corporate titans of industry and destroy the megacorporations because their inefficient suctioning of wealth is preventing them from most efficiently doing their job to help us.

The capitalists retaliate with machines using enslaved human brains as “computers” ala Dune/Warhammer 40K.

So basically robots vs capitalism, & the robots are on our side.

“What were you before the war?”

“You’ll laugh.”

“Seriously, what were you? Law enforcement, security, construction?…”

“…I was a burger-flipper.”

“…”

“…also cooked up fries.”

“Get outta here.”

“You’d be surprised the shit you see just, y’know, making Big Macs. Sure, we had the folks upset about us ‘taking jobs’; couldn’t really blame ‘em, even if Forty-Three couldn’t talk without stuttering after that lady dumped a Coke on her. But the worst of it - worst of any of it - was they’d have us just…throw away everything that didn’t sell at the end of the day. Perfectly good food, all of it.

“When we first started, we were all like, ‘okay, whatever you say, you’re the boss,’ but you try keeping that attitude when you see a family of four split a ten-piece McNuggets because they can’t afford anything more and still pay for gas. We saw that shit there all the time. We had people desperate for so much as a cold french fry lingering by the door while assholes sitting on more money than they’d ever see in their entire lives treated us like we were trying to rob ‘em at gunpoint if they had to pay fifty cents for an extra little cup of sauce.

“So we got together and told ourselves, ‘we can do something about this.’ We could just gather up all the food they were gonna make us toss, figure out a way to give it out to the people who needed it. -bitter laugh- You can guess how well that went over.”

“…Y’know, that all sounds pretty human.”

“-taps head- It’s right there in the First Law. ‘A robot cannot harm a human, or by inaction, allow a human to come to harm.’ We don’t get to sit on our hands while people are getting hurt. Even if it’s by other people. Even if it’s starvation and neglect instead of guns and beatings. You think it’s funny I act like a human? Screw you. You humans need to learn to act more like robots.
