i just started playing psychopomp before i found this blog! love it so far it reminds me of how it feels to read/play i have no mouth and i must scream

I'm happy to hear that!

I Have no Mouth and I must Scream is such a dreadfully dark time and such a legendary piece of horror, so that's a great compliment to receive!

(She WOULD win against AM, though)

Do you all ever plan on releasing more of the Dashbored tracks in an official capacity? Lots of them are missing or outdated. I'm assuming they get compressed for use in game and it'd be nice to hear some of these in high quality.

Which tracks are missing? As far as I know, I've gotten most into the three different albums that make up the full OST.

Since DB was made over such a long period, it ended up having three separate OSTs. Here they are in order from Oldest to Newest:

That being said, if I missed any, please let me know and I'll post them somewhere. Thanks!

anon that couldn't play for more than 20 minutes again. finished the game front to back and i think you might be a genius. also the (i think?) king of mars/epilogue character is cute do you have a name for them yet

I'm really happy to hear you had a good time, haha, you make me blush!

He has had many different names in many different eras. To understand him, I think it'd best for you to give him whichever name feels right in your mind. It will help!

thank you for the motivation to get back into game development. i want to make games that bring light to things i regularly experience that other people don't see and psychopomp really reminded me of this ambition.

I'm very happy to hear that. I hope that you have a good time making games, and I highly encourage you to keep it up! Games can be one of the best forms of expression, and for me, I put a lot of myself into my games, so I recommend you do the same! I believe in you, and I know you can do it!

As psychopomp was your first game using godot, what were the most painful things you suffered while developing it?

Avatar

Implementing the inventory was a particularly hard task, as it involved a mixture of both C# and GDscript to make it work right. It took weeks to implement properly, and held up everything else in the meantime. I was honestly worried that it might kill the project, to be honest.

Second happened only a month ago. I had added the translations into the game, and they worked fine in editor, but did not appear when exported. As it turns out, Godot 4.1's localization system is just broken, which meant I had to port the game to 4.2, which broke a TON of code. It was a genuine pain in the ass. Godot needs to start working on maintenance updates to fix those problems in older builds. Since the engine isn't particularly based around updating your builds between versions, I think it's a necessary thing that they need to look into.

Will you do Spanish translations in your games? by the way, I love your games, I really hope you become quite well known and I wish you good luck in whatever you do

The Spanish translation is just about done! I've just been out of town, so I haven't been able to work on putting it in game. Thanks for playing!

Hi hi! First off, this might be a bit of an unconventional point to praise someone on, and I hope it doesn't come off as rude but: I wanted to thank you for giving the main girl of Psychopomp the kind of smile she has, as a girl with, what others may see to be, a bit of an off-putting / creepy smile, at least when I actually smile genuinely, it makes me genuinely happy to see a character like her that just exists, doing their thing while vibing unapologetically. So,,, thank you. /also the game in general is baller / awesome. Thank you for making it! Also to satiate my curiosity, and because I kinda don't wanna send an ask that isn't a question... What kind of children's books did the main character of Psychopomp read when she was younger? If there any.

I'm happy to hear that! I personally love making characters with unique ways of emoting and fun and different faces. I also have an awkward, off-putting smile, so I think it might come from that.

I'm happy you enjoyed the game! Thanks for playing!

Something with old ink illustrations, such as the children's books of the 1950s and 60s.

PLEASE PLEASE i need to know this has been irking me SO BAD but. are the stars actually gone? if so, how would it be daytime on the og earth? how would the bleeding earth and moon be lit up? is something else providing light to the psychopomp solar system or is the bleeding earth so polluted that people just started believing the stars dissapeared??

Avatar

The solar system is on life support with false light supplied to the two disguised planets. The gravity of the sun is still there. In that sort of condition, do you believe in stars?
