Adventures On Earth

I saw amazing things out there in Space-- but there is strangeness out there to be found wherever you turn. Life on Earth can be an adventure too... you just need to know where to look!  SJA Era Sarah Jane RP written by Pink

Magic Or Alien

Starter For @realworldexperience

Sarah Jane wandered the market studying the booths, looking for anything out of place. Over the past month, three people had been killed, their hearts appearing as if they’d been eaten out. It was vicious, Sarah Jane was perfectly content to not see those bodies but she could look into what they had in common.

Due to the more graphic nature of the case, Sarah Jane had left Sky with Rani. They were on standby with Mr. Smith in case she needed him quickly.

Bexley had surprised a lot of people when it’s crime level had dramatically decreased in recent years. Sarah Jane couldn’t help but wonder if the murders were linked to that.

After all, she wasn’t the biggest believer in coincidences.

Wandering the open market, Sarah Jane watched people living their lives, enjoying the Farmer’s market that appeared once a week.

Her phone rang and she picked it up, seeing Mr. Smith’s number she answered. “Did you find something?”

“I just picked up an unusual energy trace about a quarter mile from your location. It lasted for just over a minute before disappearing.”

“Can you trace where it came from?”

“I’m working on that now, Sarah Jane.”

“Send me the location of the energy trace and I’ll take a look.” Sarah Jane disconnected the call with a smile.

It was always aliens.

Auld Lang Syne

Skye had gone over to a friend's house for a sleepover and for once Luke, Clyde and Rani weren't at Sarah Jane's house as the clocked crept closer to the New Year.

Sarah Jane Smith threw the last of her dishes in the dishwasher, the remains of the impromptu party she'd thrown with the kids before everyone went their separate ways.

Music played in the background, a New Year's playlist, her attempt at being festive. If Sarah Jane was honest with herself, while she enjoyed Christmas, she was the biggest fan of the new year.

Maybe it had something to do with the song that seemed to go along with it.

Should old acquaintance be forgot?

A picture lay face up on the dining table and Sarah Jane picked it up, rubbing it with her sleeve to get rid of some finger prints. Her Doctor, well her first Doctor that is smiled back with a much-younger version of herself.

Those had been the early days. The days she never knew what lay before.

Should old acquaintance be forgot and days of auld lang syne....

Smiling, she sat the picture back on the shelf, the scarf-wearing Doctor in the picture next to it.

Some acquaintances could never be forgotten.

His words registered to her as she stared at the scene of destruction around what used the be the library mere blocks from her house. Staring at the man and looking around for that beloved blue box, she couldn’t help but take in what had happened,.
Oh it wasn’t that he had done it, it was more that once again someone had forced him into that position.
Again.
What was it with this wild wonderful universe that seemed to throw the worst it had to offer at a man who had given it so much.
She stumbled through the rubble, occasionally taking his hand and the support it offered.
Sarah Jane had come for a book, there were supposed to be a series of nice days and without a pending alien invasion she had plans to curl up in her garden and read. After all, Luke was at Oxford and Skye was at school all day.
Had these people come to this library for her?
Sarah Jane was stupid. She knew over the years she’d made her share of enemies, some of who had come back to Earth with the express intent of causing her pain.
Was this one of those times?
Was it her fault that the Doctor had been forced into doing what he had done?

He didn’t obviously know about her own inner monologue, and his own worries and fears were piling on his chest, thick and heavy.

Still, he rushed away with her. The TARDIS wasn’t far, and as he could hear there was disruption behind them. He turned to Sarah, then back towards the destroyed library with some horror in his features.

“In we go, come on – come on, quick quick!” And with that he closed the TARDIS door behind them, his head hitting the back of it and letting out a relieved sigh. You could see the worry etched still in those anger eyebrows.

“I need to just take you a few hours forward, just so you’ll be safe, and then I’ll handle this, all right?” He’d not even thought about the fact she’d not seen this TARDIS yet, not even registered that she didn’t even know this face. The Doctor just had too much on his mind.

Image

She’d seen many a version of the TARDIS over the years and it never ceased to surprise her how The Doctor’s brilliant machine seemed to change along with her pilot.

Sarah Jane studied this Doctor, his eyes gave away that he was probably after the young one in the bow tie who’d crashed his own funeral.

And, like always it unfortunately seemed, the years were not kind to him.

Something he said broke through her thoughts and she stopped, glaring at him and crossing her arms.

“I’m sorry, you’re going to deal with it? What makes you think I’m going to let you do this alone?”

Stupid stubborn Time Lords who feel like they need to do everything themselves...

Narvin looks in the mug, doubtfully. Boiled leaves graced by bee effluvia. Charming. He looks up at Sarah Jane, sighs, and sips. "It is not utterly disgusting." Then he takes a second sip of his own accord.

Sarah Jane couldn’t help but smirk at the Time Lord in front of her. What was it about their DNA that seemed to just turn them into pompous pains in the rear?

And what was this one doing in her kitchen.

“What brings you to my galactic quadrant?”

Sarah Jane ducked behind what used to be a rather nice car as a laser of some sort shot in her direction. “Trust me, Lilia, I know all about the Lethbride-Stewart name.  My name doesn’t seem to have much better luck I’m afraid.”

“I swear we have this argument each time we get caught up in something like this?” Lilia chuckled uneasily before ducking with a small squeak beside Sarah Jane, her bravado slipping a little.

“And my boss is gonna kill me after today,” She flicked her head to the car they were hiding behind that was being battered by lasers, “This is his car.”

Sarah Jane couldn’t help but chuckle. “Trust me, while your name brings trouble, it brings a certain knack for getting out of it.”

She popped over the car, trying to get a look at what was firing at the pair. Just a friendly lunch with the granddaughter of an old friend. But, like Lilia had said, her name seemed to attract all manner of things and simple trips could turn into anything but.

Like the time a simple interview turned into an adventure on The Doctor’s home planet, or a simple investigation into a research facility turned into the adventure of a lifetime.

Aiming the sonic lipstick, she tried to get a reading, a feature she’d picked up from The Doctor’s later incarnations. “Step one, let’s figure out what we’re dealing with. Then we’ll worry about your bosses car.”

Sarah Jane stared at him for a moment, processing the fact that this odd man’s dog was named after the grandfather of one of the Doctor’s companions. That reminded her, she needed to pop round for tea and pay him a visit soon.
Curiosity was about to get the better if her, a habit she knew she never would fully grow out of - delusions around her almost-wedding being ignored.
“I’m not sure what K-9 prefers, would you like to come in for a cuppa and ask him yourself?”
Image

“Yeah! That’s it! He was called K-9! Your fellow has the same name too, huh? Guess these robot dogs just don’t have many puns they can use for names.” What else could someone call a robot dog? T3RRI3R? F1-D0? Oh, hey - that last one was good, actually. John might use that in his book!

Anyway, the offer of a hot drink was enough to lure the author in. Thank God nobody had attempted to kidnap him before - it would be so ridiculously easy to get him somewhere where it would be possible to take advantage of him in any way.

“You got coffee? I mean, tea is good too, but coffee is better. And what about biscuits? The answer is yes whatever the case, mind you. Love a coffee, me.”

Image

Sarah Jane led the man into the sitting room, offering him a seat before retreating to the kitchen. What had possessed her to even consider letting this man see K-9?

She knew of him, Rani and Clyde were obsessed with it. But why was she doing this. Luckily, the only outer space thing in there were pictures of her first Doctor which she could (and had) passed him off as her grandfather,.

The kettle on, she went upstairs to where K-9 and Mr. Smith were bickering about something. “K-9, there’s someone downstairs that wants to talk to you.”

Sarah Jane waved the blonde in, knowing the girl knew her way to the kitchen by now. No telling where The Doctor was or where he thought Rose was. He was probably hiding from Jackie Tyler. Some things never change. “Well, about that…” Sarah Jane had hoped that wouldn’t come up but it would serve The Doctor right to know she was telling stories on him to the mother of his current companion. “We were having tea, I invited her over for a cuppa and she saw the pictures of my two Doctors. We got talking about how you’d seen him through a regeneration and I might have said offhand that the only thing worse than him during regeneration sickness is when there are multiple versions of him together at the same time.” Sarah Jane put the kettle on, chuckling at the mental image of Jackie Tyler’s face when this had happened. “Of course she wanted to know how many Doctors were there. Four to answer your questions dear. And… well,… that’s how it happened.”

“Saint Sarah Jane. You definetly deserve that title!” dealing with one Doctor was a lot of trouble, four doctors? The woman deserved a galaxy named after her. “Does he argue with himself? I bet he argues with himself! He will randomly make a comment about his old body – usually not a very nice one – just for the heck of it!”

Sarah Jane leaned back in her chair and took a sip of her tea, falling back into the memory for a second.

“I was heading off to an interview, what I thought was aliens ended up being corruption - which would later help inspire the show I had on Planet 3 a couple of decades ago. K-9 tried to warn me that there was danger and that I should stay home and listen but in my stubbornness, I went to the bus stop but didn’t make it. I later found out a time scoop picked me up and sent me to the Death Zone on Gallifrey.”

She looked at the picture of her first Doctor. “I found my first Doctor  there and we travelled torwards the Tomb of Rassilon where we met up with his First, Second, and Fifth incarnations”

Sarah Jane laughed. “Fighting might not be the right word. You see Rose, the Doctor is used to be the smartest person in the room, and he usually is. But when there’s more than one of him then its a contest to see who’s the most clever. I’ve wondered if some of it is to help keep them from losing face with the companions they have in tow but it’s quite fun to watch.”

He hadn’t wanted to run into her like this during such a bloody escapade. There had been a library here, and now it was destroyed, debris scattered at their feet. Inside, bodies lay to waste. He had given them a choice hadn’t he? He had told them to stop or he’d be forced to take the next step. He’d forgotten that this was near where she was based these days…and he hadn’t wanted her to see what he had been forced to do. What was it he had once said?

ONE OF US ARE LYING ABOUT OUR BASIC PROGRAMMING AND WE BOTH KNOW WHICH ONE OF US IT IS.  His hearts sink as she instantly recognises him. Sometimes he wishes she wasn’t that good at it..  “We need to leave this area, right now. TARDIS. They’ll be looking for their dead and now you’ve seen me you’re a target too come on!” And of course, the explosion is enough of a sign that they’ve arrived. He rushes towards her, hands outstretched hoping to keep his once companions balanced. He barely has time to look her over, not even a chance to gage timeline or age, and even if he did, he’d probably read it wrong. Still dizzy with the horror of what he’d come to cause witness.

His words registered to her as she stared at the scene of destruction around what used the be the library mere blocks from her house. Staring at the man and looking around for that beloved blue box, she couldn’t help but take in what had happened,.

“I’m a Lethbridge-Stewart, my dear Sarah Jane, it’s an onomatological hazard, I’m afraid.”

Sarah Jane ducked behind what used to be a rather nice car as a laser of some sort shot in her direction. “Trust me, Lilia, I know all about the Lethbride-Stewart name.  My name doesn’t seem to have much better luck I’m afraid.”

"SARAH JANE, DON'T OPEN THAT--" He couldn't stop himself, and smashed into her. A blur of scarf, coat, hair, and nose. He clearly wasn't as lithe as his last incarnation.

Sarah Jane tried to figure out which way was up as her second Doctor collided into her in a bundle of... well him.

She’d just been walking down the street, only needing a couple of things at the market and it was such a nice day.

“Doctor, what on Earth are you doing here?”

Sarah Jane had picked up a lot of skills over the years. She was an acclaimed investigative journalist, she was handy with tinkering and building things out of odds and ends, and she had found a way to take these skills and use them to make a difference and move on from the adventures she’d had with The Doctor all those years ago.

But kids, she didn’t know what to do with them.

Luke and Skye had come mostly grown and she’d had Maria and Clyde and then later Rani to help her help them to fit in.

But these weren’t almost grown kids, these were little kids who took naps and ran around and made messes...

She cringed as something crashed to the ground.

“Who is your grandfather?”

“I’m so sorry, Sarah. Really I am.”

Sarah Jane stared at the scene of detestation around her and the older man standing in front of her.He stood there, cost with red lining that reminded her slightly of her first Doctor’s coat.Looking into his eyes confirmed who it was. Over the years she had met most of his regenerations, and one way she was able to tell it was him was his eyes.“Doctor?”An explosion a few feet away from her startled her, causing her to lose her balance.
