I love that Laios and Marcille are both willing to immediately go off the legal/moral deep end for Falin, no questions asked. Laios doesn't even question Marcille's devotion when he asks her to use black magic, he knows she loves Falin too.

And the best part? That almost sinister level of devotion is returned in both of their directions. (Also, this is just a great Falin image)

"What if I took your hand in mine and told you I'd hurt others to guarantee your safety? And we were both girls?"

"I've been waiting for ages for somebody to unmask them."

This moment tends to elicit negative reactions in a first read through, and I've got some opinions about why where Kabru is coming from here actually makes a lot of logical sense. So I thought I'd elaborate on that.

I think people hear this and go, "He thinks they must be hiding something because they gave money to someone? What a cynic." Or "he dislikes them because they did charity?? What's wrong with this guy!". And obviously, a lot, a lot is wrong with him. But I think this makes more sense than it seems at first glance! What people evaluating this judgement miss is why Kabru is paying attention to Laios and co to begin with.

Overall, I personally hate being micromanaged. I like when my 'employers' trust me to get my work done, and in general I perform better when I don't feel like I'm being hounded. This kind of principle I try to apply to others I work with... keeping an "open door" so they can ask me at any time for assistance, but otherwise letting them control their own working paths to accomplish what they need to do.

Every week (Mondays) I send out a "job assignment" listing, which includes myself in it, so no one can say 'oh I didn't know I was assigned to X project in Y capacity' so there IS a reminder sent out.

Gets me so frustrated when I end up having to "chase" them down (via email since we all work remote) to remind them again and again to get something done/submitted/returned. Especially frustrating when I'm balancing my own work, life, and responsibilities to the best of my own ability and feeling like maybe I'm not contributing as much as I could (even though I know, in a way, I am) just to see others on the team not even seemingly putting in the basic effort.

It makes me feel disrespected to a degree - as professional and with my time - to have to go after a colleague who simply isn't doing their job. Two in particular I'm dealing with right now are older than I am (by about 5-8 years, so they're in their mid-upper 30s) and have been in the professional spheres longer, yet still can't seem to manage themselves as they should at their level.

Sure, there are factors in their own lives that can create issues, and normally I would understand that, but there's a limit to my patience. There's also gotta be a boundary somewhere because if they cannot perform the work due to something else going on they shouldn't accept the job! When someone accepts the job they should do said job...not waffle about it. We're all independent contractors so we work what we want to work on and can decline a job if we feel it'll interfere with our lives negatively.

I hate to create a tension, but when I've been wanting a response for several days and hear nothing or realize after back-checking that someone hasn't engaged with part of their work for a week or so, it leaves me no choice. Had to get our 'employer' involved to discuss how I must proceed on a project that NEEDS activity from these two as I'm the only one so far involved.

PLUS next week (starting Monday) we're having an in-person team retreat so I have to see these two face-to-face and I'm a little less thrilled on that part.

hey so... everyone knows Kabru is the opposite of Laios, but nobody talks about how the rest of their party members are also opposed,

  • scab criminal Mickbell against unionized worker Chilchuck
  • dogboy against catgirl
  • Rin the outlaw mage who hasn't actually done anything wrong against Marcille the highborn upper class mage who's secretly a necromancer
  • Dia the dwarf who distrusts dungeons against Senshi the naturalist who's lived in dungeons for decades
  • Holm the support mage who uses other creatures as a shield against Falin the cleric with a martyr complex
