I want to Know You
I am checking the register when I hear the door chime. I glanced up to see who had come in. And that’s when I saw you. Your (H/C) hair moves with every step. My eyes were glued to you as you glided towards the shelves. Your eyes sparkled in adoration as you scanned the book shelf. I couldn’t help but feel a smile tug at my lips seeing you look so content. You were gorgeous to say the least. I quickly composed myself when I saw you shyly walking up to the counter. Your eyes flickered to mine and then quickly back down. You kept shifting side to side. It was obvious that you were nervous.
“Um, hello, I w-was, um, wondering if you could, uh, h-help me?” You asked as your voice quivered. You are more than nervous, your poor hands are shaking.
“Of course! What can I help you with?” I answered, trying not to scare you off.
“Do you h-have any, um, good recommendations?” There was less shakiness in your words this time. You are getting more comfortable.
“I have plenty. Any particular genre?” I questioned further. I wanted to find out more about you.
“Um, romance,” you say softly.
I took you further into the store to take you back to the romance section.
I am new to New York so when I saw this small bookshop on my way to pick up some lunch, I had to stop and check it out. I walked in and was hit with the mixed smell of old books and fresh ink. My eyes lit up as I scanned the shelves looking at all of the books. I was feeling a little overwhelmed so I started looking for someone who worked here. And that when I saw him. His dark brown wavy hair laid so perfectly and his eyes shined in the sunlight that leaked in through the windows. I started to feel nervous but I swallowed down my fear and slowly walked up to him.
“Um, hello, I w-was, um, wondering if you could, u, h-help me?” I asked, cursing myself for stuttering.
“Of course! What can I help you with?” He responded cheerfully.
“Do you h-have any, um, good recommendations?” I asked, feeling less nervous.
“I have plenty. Any particular genre?” He questioned.
“Um, romance,” I saw softly.
“Follow me,” he said smiling. Thank goodness he didn’t notice the major blush rising to my cheeks
I follow him as he takes me further back into the book store and in front of the romance section.
I was in awe at the vast collection of books that laid on the shelf. My eyes scanned over them and I saw it out of the corner of my eye.
I let out a small gasp of surprise and without thinking I walked towards the book. It was on one of the higher shelves so I stood on my tip toes and grabbed the book off the shelf. I ran my hand down the spine feeling the imprinted letters. I flipped through a few pages completely forgetting what I was doing. I shut the book softly and turned to face the man next to me. His eyes met mine and then I realized what I had done.
“Oh my gosh, I am so sorry!” I exclaimed as heat rushed to my cheeks, an evident blush fell onto my face. “I completely forgot what I was doing! I didn’t mean to-.” my ramble was shortly cut off by his low chuckle.
“It’s quite alright, I understand the feeling,” he smiled as he spoke. My blush intensified as I tried to form a sentence. “Pride and Prejudice is an excellent choice. Is there anything else that you would like?” he asked politely.
“Oh, um, no t-this is it,” I managed to stutter out, my nervousness returning. I followed him out of the rows of books and up to the counter. I handed him the book and our hands touched for a moment. They were warm and slightly rough. I felt a shiver run down my spine. I looked at him but this time I really paid attention. His features were defined but it seemed to give off a soft look. Approachable and kind along with being very handsome. His face just looked...perfect. Ugh! Stop thinking like that (Y/N)! I shook the thoughts from my head.
“Ok, your total is going to be $8.50,” the bookstore clerk explained. I shuffled around in my purse to find my card. I handed it to him and my eyes caught the name tag that was pinned to his shirt. You have got to be kidding me, his name was right in front of my face.
“Hey, I’m sorry again for earlier. I really appreciate your help Joe,” I thanked. His face shifted to a look of confusion. Uh-oh.
“How do you-? Oh! My name tag,” he laughed. Whew. I let out a sigh of relief.
“Yeah it was no problem, uh…(Y/N),” he responded, checking my card for my name. I softly smiled at him and he returned it, making my heart flutter. He handed me my card and I thanked him and left the store. Shit! I forgot to ask for his info. Damnit (Y/N)!
I watched her as she left and couldn’t help but let my eyes wander. She was gorgeous in every way. I finished my shift and locked up the store. I started heading home. I need to know more about you (Y/N)(L/N). I made it to my apartment complex and made my way up to my floor. I saw Paco sitting outside on the stairs again. That could only mean one thing.
“Hey buddy, what’s up?” I asked quietly. I could hear the shouting from the hallway.
“My mom and Ron are fighting again,” he responded sadly. I softly smiled at him and gave him a book that I had brought from the store that I had picked out for him earlier. He took it from me, a large smile spreading across his face.
“Thanks Joe,” Paco said graciously.
I walked into my apartment, set my things down, and sat down on the couch. I opened my laptop and began my research on you (Y/N). Social media is a great tool to find people and you are no exception. It took a little bit of scrolling but I eventually found your Instagram account. Hmm...very minimal. Only a few pictures of you with family and friends and pictures from past vacations. Let’s check your twitter. Again it took a bit of scrolling but I found your account. And again still not much, just retweeted posts of your friends and other accounts that you followed. It was very vague so I couldn’t get much information about you. You are still a mystery to me. So that means I’m going to have to use other methods to get to know you. I closed my laptop and let out a sigh. Who are you (Y/N(L/N)?
