I finally (got help) slapping Wordpress into shape and Runaway to the Stars is now releasing as a public webcomic! Thank you so much for your support over the years, and sticking with me while I'm slowly chewing my way through this book. I'm very excited to share this story! It'll be updating every Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday thanks to the massive Patreon backlog. Patreon will continue to update as I finish pages, which happens on a sporadic non-schedule.

If you experience bugs with the site report them to me. Some things may occasionally break, as coding problems tend to be a very "whack-a-mole" affair; and I'm still getting used to the interface.

btw RttS is still contracted to a book publisher, I just got permission from them to share the comic online. This is beneficial for two reasons: it's functionally advertising for a printed book when the comic is complete, and also I am quite shallow and primarily motivated by attention so sharing pages makes pages happen faster 👍

the problem with having an autistic special interest around doujin music is that it's so easy to find excuses to infodump about it, since it's legitimately not widely understood. the average person doesn't even know about Living Only Records. you can tell them everything forever.

explaining what Last Little While is and then looking over my shoulder as I walk away, waiting for them to ask "who's anoare?"

this is anoare. btw.

@irrlichter anoare has a bunch of albums out! they also play in the shoegaze band Last Little While and post about adjacent music on their twitter (easy to find)

also they post tracks on youtube sometimes

Anonymous asked:

so, just to make sure I understand what you're saying, an elf is an inherently narrative being and their subjective experience of the world causes their material reality?

yes!*

*: this is mostly true in tolkien's writing, which is personally what I base a lot of my enjoyment of elves as an archetype around. this isn't true for most contemporary depictions of elves because people really struggle with writing that kind of character. tolkien (rightly, because this is an insane thing to consider) doesn't talk enough about elven surgery or medicine for us to know the specific things I headcanon in relation to their physiology

if that sounds like it'd raise some problems with free will, that's also something the tolkien depiction of elves addresses in a bit of a startling way: free will is more of something confusing that mortals do

you can see this manifest in the difference between how LotR (which is not from the perspective of elves) and the Silmarillion (which is an elven text) talk about things that must come to pass

humans are important because they can exist without myth or narrative. a lot of humans exist for no reason at all and do things because they want to. but elves need to have a reason to exist

it's immensely frustrating to them when a mortal doesn't align with that and can't be cleanly slotted into their narrative understanding of the world

while it might seem the case that being an independent artist frees you of having a boss you hate, this always ignores the fact that anyone doing art becomes intimately aware of how much room there is in your hollowed out skeleton to hate payment processors

at every level, the payment industry has one of the world's simplest and most profitable jobs: take a cut off of someone else's money in exchange for delivering it to them

now imagine the most grotesque abuse of executive power that could come with someone realising they, by holding this money for any period of time, can actively shape culture before it reaches the masses. understand this is entirely normalised and legal

Every* Type of Mecha

*Not Actually Every Type.

Something I spent WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY too much time on lol. This is entirely just riffing off of the many 'kinds' or 'tropes' in mecha design I found. Feel free to suggest more of them.

Might make a document providing examples for each one, but idk. I think most of these are pretty self-explanatory.

after noticing various electronic components going missing, I eventually found my maid having opened a box of diodes and chewing on some 1N4148s. should I encourage this change in its diet?

I'm not too well versed on electronics myself, so I referred this one to a fellow maid expert

"yes yes pole arms are more practical than swords but lack any romanticism" <- words of someone unable to romanticize bleeding out in some irrelevant battle for the sake of a noblewoman they've never met

This post is about lesbian sex.

I love that this map on the wikipedia page for the Mongol Empire took a hard stance on the legitimacy of succession of Roman Imperium

i hate to be that guy, but the idea that gender, sex, and sexuality are ontologically pure concepts that can be rigidly defined if we simply police our language enough (our english language, because of course) is—i cannot stress this enough—a total waste of time. you may as well spend your afternoons teaching a brick how to swim
