It’s been almost ten years since you step foot in this house and seeing it again for the first time made you regret every Christmas that you purposely missed just so you can avoid spending time with your family. And besides feeling that you’re home, you feel regret suffocating you. What was I thinking, you murmured. This house used to be filled with laughter and happiness. Nights where you and your family will watch TV together in the living room with all the lights closed, countless meals together and talking about random stuff while eating, drinking coffee with your mother, playing board games with your brother. But now, the house is filled with dust and despair.

Remember that Trump is still president until January 21, and this period of his presidency is called the lame duck period. It is incredibly likely he will do his absolute worst during this time, as Trump is still able to do everything he could during his presidency, such as issuing executive orders, etc. I think we should probably prepare or at least be aware and understand that he really could push through as much executive orders and legislation as possible, especially considering the majority Republicans hold in the house and senate. During this period, legislators usually stop listening to the lame duck president so much since they have limited time left, but I don’t think that will happen given the circumstances. Trump WILL call for more violence, his supporters WILL use some form of violence in the coming days, and I can almost promise you he WILL try to push through as much as possible in the next few months. It is not over yet. He has time to inflict more damage before the inauguration.

Halloween present time 

“Mom, can you tell me the story about the monster who eats humans just so he can look like one too?” your nine-year-old daughter snuggles beside you on a Halloween night, tired from trick or treating and already sleepy.  

“Just because it’s Halloween” you boop her nose and kept her close to you, stroking her head and making her comfortable. 

“Once upon a time, there were five teenagers who want to make a deal with the devil. The clueless teenagers did not know that what they were doing was wrong. Meaning, wrong methods, wrong sacrifice. 

Given that they don’t know what they were doing, they singlehandedly or accidentally brought a creature into this world. The bothered creature that was summoned ate the teenagers as the creature was so confused, why was he bothered in his own torture cell in hell? 

It starved for days, lost in a world that’s not familiar to him. He fed himself with every human who crosses paths with him, men, women, and children. Until it finally knew that eating humans can make him look just like them. 

The creature adapted in this world, living like a normal human and walking amongst us, still not knowing how to go home. “

Halloween many many many years ago 

“And that creature is me. Happy Halloween class, enjoy the night” Jaehyun finishes his story in front of his class. Watching every student laugh and shrug his ‘scary’ story for Halloween. They thought he was joking, and that was the fun part Jaehyun thought.

FOLLOWING - chapter eleven

Jaehyun ignores his buzzing phone. He doesn’t need to check it anyway, he can feel Doyoung glaring at him from all the way down the table. And he doesn’t need another reason to look down that way, because it’s currently his mission in life to avoid making eye contact with you.

He recognizes everyone at the table by now, but he still lets Johnny introduce him to everyone. Your little brother and his best friend are sat opposite Jaehyun, giving him warm smiles in welcome. Sandwiched between Mark and you is Taeyong, who beams at his own best friend. On the other side of you is Sicheng, with Yuta across from him. The glaring Doyoung, next to Taeil, leaving Jaehyun sat next to the only other person at the table he’d hoped to avoid: Kim Jungwoo.

Jungwoo, who’s facing Jaehyun, smiling brightly and holding out a hand for him to shake. Even in person Jae can see how beautiful this man is, and the jealousy he’s been battling and his own fragile self-esteem takes another hit.

“Jung Jaehyun, wow. It’s such an honor to meet you.” Jungwoo shakes his hand with a professional pressure like he’s trying to impress the elder. “I’ve admired your work for such a long time.”

Jaehyun feels his ego inflate, an involuntary smirk coming to his mouth. He also feels your eyes on him and it takes all of his willpower to ignore you. “Really? I’m surprised. You’re making quite a name for yourself.”

Jungwoo’s cheeks tint pink and his shoulders sag just a bit. “You know of me?”

Jaehyun chuckles wryly, “How could I forget the name of the man stealing all my jobs?”

Those who were listening in go quiet. It feels like the whole restaurant goes silent but Jae doesn’t break eye contact. Jungwoo shrinks in on himself, turning his face down, biting his lip, and Jae wonders if he’ll bite hard enough to break the skin. Johnny is stiff next to him, Mark and Haechan are frowning almost identically, and Jaehyun senses you wrestling with whether you’re going to leap across the table or just scream at him from your seat.

Then Jaehyun laughs, claps Jungwoo on the shoulder, and attempts to remember the advice he’d been told when he first started breaking onto the scene. “It’s okay, man. It’s a good thing.” Jungwoo looks up at him, eyes wide in worry. “Not only does it mean you’re doing a good job, which you should be proud of, but you’re giving me - and so many like me - the competition we need. A new face gracing magazines we’ve got used to scoring? Means we gotta step up our game.” Jaehyun holds out his hand for Jungwoo to shake again. “Welcome to the top, man.”

The chatter starts up again around the table. Johnny pinches Jaehyun’s side, making him whine and jump.

Jaehyun finally allows himself to meet your eyes. Your gaze quickly leaps from the side of Jungwoo’s face to watch Jaehyun carefully. You look confused, maybe a bit betrayed, but most of all… unsure. It was only your second time meeting him, someone who turns out to be close friends with your new friends, and you already don’t trust him, don’t really even know what to think of him.

Jaehyun nods your way before turning to engage in conversation with the people closest to him. You can’t help but to keep glaring. You didn’t think you could really know someone from just one meeting with them, but you thought yourself a good judge of character. He’d seemed genuine the first time you saw his face and yet… this proved to paint a much clearer picture of just who Jung Jaehyun is. Or who he likes to portray.

And you decide then and there, that you don’t want to find out if there is a difference between the model and the normal guy.

Taeyong had been a mess ever since you vanished. He didn’t go to the record company, he barely left his studio. He locked himself in the small room for hours, trying to distract himself with the only thing he could count on; music but there were times when even his love for music couldn’t save him. Slowly, alcohol became his new medicine; something that made him feel numb and forget most of the stuff. He had bought a bottle of white champagne but never dared to open it. He was saving it for the day you came back to him, even if he wasn’t sure but still had hope.

You sat in your seat in the recording booth at Neo City’s top radio station, Hits 12.7. You read over your script that your manager had freshly printed with today’s breaking stories.

Including one that you shouldn’t have been reading about for the first time at that moment.

That’s right. Your little sister Phoebe was engaged!

You didn’t have time to process the news as you were back on air with your co-host in 3…2…1…

Your co-host Doyoung said into his mic. “All right, Neo City, here’s some breaking news: America’s power couple Osaki Shotaro and Phoebe y/l/n are engaged! Y/n, why didn’t you tell us?”

You kicked Doyoung under the table, silently telling him that this was the first time you were hearing of it. You put a finger to your lips before he said anything else.

“Well, Doyoung, I am simply over the moon for her. He was her celebrity crush since we were in high school! They love each other so much so this is not a surprise.” Your younger sister was two years younger than you and you remembered driving to school, blaring Shotaro’s debut album from your pick-up.

When he read the continuation of the script, you gave him daggers for eyes and dared him to read what came next aloud. And that he did. “Well, y/n, you’re our insider. Any wedding details we should know about? Surely, you’re the maid of honor.”

You wanted to bust out laughing right then and there but you were a professional. “Not a clue, Doie dear, but knowing my sister, it’s going to be the event of the century.”

Thankfully, the wedding news was only the first of many breaking news stories. An idol’s colorist remark had taken social media by storm. A divorce was announced between two actors who had met on set and fallen in love. Marvel had its eye on who they wanted their next Spider-Man to be for the reboot.

When you and Doyoung were done for the day, you gave him a look. “Seriously? You just had to go right by the script this time?” You asked.

Doyoung shrugged. “I didn’t think you’d be upset. Aren’t you and your sister close?”

You got your belongings and before you left the booth, you answered, “No, we’re not.”

Life had dealt you some harsh blows but you found happiness wherever you could. Your management position at the vinyl store Neo Records gave you prime access to the best music in the world. Even if the employee discount was trash. You’d worked at the records store for a few months now. This followed you having moved out of your mom’s place. You’d lived with her and your beloved stepfather while you attended college but you’d had enough.

Your mom was a drug addict and her husband Scott only enabled her to continue her abuse. You couldn’t say anything to them because you were the child and they were the adults.

And, as they had always thrown in your face, they paid for a good amount of your tuition because financial aid and scholarships could only do so much for you.

Well, you’re twenty four now and still a child in their eyes. You couldn’t take your mother’s mood swings and Scott’s goading for her to thrash around and party all the time. If your mother wasn’t going to get therapy and refused your help, then you decided to leave.

You had a really good relationship with your dad. You’d wished you had gone to live with him but during your college years, he’d only made enough to send you some funds for your tuition. You appreciated what he could do for you.

However, now he was more financially stable and he wanted to support you so you could move out of your mother’s house. You’d live in an apartment not too far from your dad’s place so you could visit him as much as you’d like. It drove your mom crazy. She always tried to contact you and convince you that she was going to get help. It was a tale as old as time. She said she would get help but never did anything about it. Once she had you under her finger, she reverted back to her ways: skipping work shifts, neglecting household chores, and verbally abusing you. You simply texted her you were busy with work.

Your boyfriend Johnny has been a source of comfort for you over the past year. You’d met him at a club one night with your friends. You told him you didn’t want to go home that night and asked him if you could stay over. Looking back on it, you had been too trusting but Johnny had treated you kindly: he let you take his bed while he slept on the couch. He made you breakfast in the morning: banana pancakes and scrambled eggs. You had sex with him the morning after and you’d been inseparable ever since.

These past few weeks, Johnny had been busier at his new job at a marketing firm. You two were supposed to have a date night tonight but he cancelled two hours before you were to meet at Hal’s Pizzeria for dinner. After that, you were supposed to go to the movies together. You were always a big fan of the dinner and movie date.

You sat on the couch in your living room, feeling a little blue that Johnny was working overtime. So you scrolled through your phone while you watched episodes of an English-dubbed anime about volleyball.

You texted your best friend Carla about how Johnny cancelled at the last minute and she replied: Since you don’t have plans, then I have an opportunity for you.

You texted back, What’s up?

She replied, I had a reservation at Osaka Moon for tonight but I got called in for work. Wanna go? The owner is supposed to be hot as fuck.
